I honestly don't know? Just wanted to put a theme I downloaded on to the phone, that possible via Cyberduck?

I've never used Pandora because I live in Canada and their site won't let me stream. If I'm using an iPhone in Canada do you think Pandora would work for me?

99+30 for two lines sounds pretty good to me imo, although I'm in Canada so not fully sure what the rates are int he states. I'm paying about 99+tx for one line+data.

As for cases, I had one for the first 2-3 months but have been using it caseless for almost a year now and it's barely got anything to show for it. Unless you have a super-light case, I don't really see the point in them. It doesn't wear very quick and after 3 years it's most likely good for the trash so I don't really bother with one anymore. There are a few recommendations in the past few pages though as the theme of cases just came up. I personally used the zagg.com case and liked it alright.

You can't get pandora in the Canadian app store (at least, I searched for it and couldn't find it).

I've only used Winterboard to install themes, but yes, my understanding is that you can do that via the file structure itself. I guarantee that modmyi or macrumors would be more help than me in this regard. That, or C-Dog.

First you need to download OpenSSH and open SSH communication (install SBSettings or BossPrefs to get an SSH toggle). Then, yes, username root and password alpine on Cyberduck. Then, change the password (using Terminal on a Mac, I'm sure there's an easy way on PC too). When you're done with your business turn off SSH on your phone, it's a power suck.

These are the cases I use. Right now I have the Black/Yellow, Black/Red, and just ordered an orange spine (not in pic, it's new) which should look sweet. I love these cases, not belt clip though.

Does your skirt make it hard to work the phone?
06-27-2009 , 01:18 AM
You mean like does the casing edges stick out in the front of the phone making it harder to use?
06-27-2009 , 01:24 AM
If that's what you meant then, for me I acually like it better because I have more of a grip which helps me control my fingers better instead of having the back of my hand on a more slippery surface like the bare back of the iPhone. It does stick out a bit on the front but like I said, to me it's not a problem at all. It may get in the way if you were playing a game like TapTap, I'm guessing..never really noticed. Here is a pic of the front, BTW the name of the case is the "Capsule Rebel" made by Switcheasy. They have others too, their site is nice.

Here is the one I am currently using. The spine clips in and you can get different colors.

This is spot on. You can put the themes on the phone via SSH. The path is Library\Themes\. You can install Terminal on the iPhone itself to change the password as well.

Question for those who still have the 3g and have the 3.0 update. Does your phone load differently when you cut it on now than it did before? Before 3.0, you would see the black screen with the Apple logo then it would go directly to the home screen. Now, you see the black screen with the Apple logo, then it goes completely black for a few seconds, then it goes to the locked screen.

Does this happen for everyone else still with the 3g? Also, I'm not really noticing the speed increase with apps and the web that people are talking about.

My iPhone mentor is proud of me

If anyone had told me six months ago that I'd ever be giving jailbreak advice, let alone correct and helpful advice, I would've said they were crazy.

My 3gs should arrive tomorrow. Yikes! What to do first? I have not been an ATT customer for about 6 years. I am coming from a phone about 4 years old, but it does have internet. Still, the phone should be sick.

In advance for all the noob questions I may ask, I apologize.

Okay, here is my one week review of the 3gs (16gig version)

Forward, I owned the original IPhone but gave it to my mom because AT@T's service sucked in my area, the internet was slow, and it wasnt' very flexible, i.e. it had no todo list or any way to add one. I kept buying IPods though, moving from the original shuffle up to a nano, up to the iTouch. I loved the iTouch, but was frustrated that when I left the house I rarely had Wifi access and couldn't use the browser. When the new phone came out I decided I could sell my Verizon Env2 (fu Verizon) and the iTouch, and switch while making a profit on the transaction. Of course my wife claimed the ITouch as soon as I gave it up, <shrug>.

To start, the first week has been great, I love the phone, and have fewer complaints about it than any other phone I've ever had. What I like...

1) It's fast, from the 3g networking, to the responsive interface.
2) it's been stable.
3) It's so expandable and flexible I can use it in so many parts of my life.

Take Poker, I already used PokerCruncher for hand range analysis on the iTouch, this week I added Poker Journal to keep track of my sessions so I can keep better, more detailed data than filling out a spreadsheet after the fact allows. In fact this was the first week I had forgotten to enter a day, and still don't remember if I won or lost last sunday. That's not going to happen again.

Or investing. I've been evaluating techologies and providers so i can enhance my excel based stock tracking system, and one of the providers includes a free real time quoting app for the iPhone. But I may be able to use excel itself on the iPhone.

Or navigating. I'm driving up to Oregon as I write this, and I was able to take my 10 year old nav free Landcruiser, using just the free app on my iPhone to guide us. Take that Verizon and your crappy $13 per month navigator. I'll never buy a car installed nav system again.

Or free texting, which is just an app I downloaded from the app store.

So what are my criticisms?

1) Battery life. I've come close to draining the battery every day I used it. I'm definitely using it a lot, but on this trip I'm not making calls or texting much, just using the nav and some internet browsing , plus I turned off 3G and it still runs down by days end.

2) AT&T service. It's better than before, but not great, I've already had one dropped call in my house. And on this trip, on I5 up from LA to the Oregon border I estimate that I either had no 3G access about half the time. About 10% of the time I had no internet access at all. The latter meant the nav stopped working because all of it's data is remote, anyone recommend a navigation app that stores enough map information locally so it can still give you some basic directions when it's not connected to the internet?

3) I still don't have a solution for my todo list. Currently I track it on MS Outlook on my pc, and don't have a way to sync it to my Iphone, so I end up sending myself texts or e-mails and re-entering them when I get to my laptop.

Nits
1) I hate that the App store doesn't impose some basic return/demo requirements. Every app sold there should either allow you to uninstall it for a full refund within 7 days, or allow you to use the full version for a day or two to evaluate it before you are charged. It's really hard looking through a half dozen poker journal products figuring out which one you want to dump $12 on.

I also bought the $75 wallet/purse YimYammer recommended. I like it, but it's a bit thicker than I anticipated, and that's even with cleaning out my old walllet almost completely. The problem is while it's fine for credit cards, it's awkward for storing cash, it just doesn't fit well and is part of the reason it's so thick. I think the solution is a money clip, but I lost my old one. I think as soon as I find a new one I'll be super happy with it.

In conclusion, i'm writing this on a dell laptop. As soon as I get back from oregon, the dell goes on EBay, and is replaced with a new apple laptop, and i'm goiing all mobileme. I'm going to max the value of my IPhone, and stop complaining about the awful software and interface on Windows (good riddance XP). When I got the IPhone I also bought my wife a 24 inch iMac, and I'm really jealous of how fast and smooth it is, and how good the software on it is. Previously I felt tied to Windows because of Excel, but it turns out all the features i need for real time analysis are in the $128 version of Mac Office.

I'm going all mac, all the time baby...

There should be a bunch of stuff you can tweak in the settings to help battery life, just google it. I've read some posts about it but can't remeber much.

Mine will be here tomorrow too, can't wait.
06-29-2009 , 03:08 AM
I did turn off the 3g which is supposed to help. I also have push mail notifications on, which is supposed to hurt. I guess I'll go through the rest of these recommendations tomorrow...

Try turning the brightness down and turn off wifi when you are just out and about, I think that radio is the most power happy of all of them. Also, I'd get chargers for the car and work and get in the habit of plugging it in when you are around a charger. When you get the Mac there are about a million to do list systems you can look into most that integrate with the iPhone. Things and Chandler are just two.
06-29-2009 , 09:30 AM
Turn off Push for Email and turn down Brightness and you should be good.

finally beat Fieldrunners on Hard, albeit in Extended mode (Grasslands map)

finished with 5 hearts left.

Spoiler:
the key was when I switched to diagonal lines instead of straight, this causes everyone to constantly be making right angle turns, slowing them down. also as Astroglide said the Flamethrower is an awesome weapon, I used these almost exclusively as "big" weapons. not a single missile tower, and 1 only lightning and 1 mortar towards the end. the flamethrowers give your best ROI I think. coupled with plentiful Goo guns of course

I am using the website http://www.toodledo.com (it's free) and then syncing that with the iPhone App "Todo" by Appigo (It was 10 dollars). There is also a Toodledo app (2 Dollars I think) that is pretty decent.

Remember the Milk is a great desktop app for this, and their Iphone App now has push notifications/synching
