I wouldn't have to explain this to people if they weren't unobservant Americans.

It's a pretty big breach of the constitution to have "In God We Trust" on the money. Separation of church and State and that whole thing.

I do. Sodas at our work are only 35 cents.

Yeah, so? Is there a point to this?

It sounds like you think that remembering trivial information is a sign of intelligence.

(by the way, the last time i saw a dime was probably many months ago, i usually dont bother getting small change back when buying something)

This is a really good example of not knowing what other people know and don't know. I honestly thought I had misread your post or it might have been a trick question, because I knew the answer in one millionth of one second, and really would have assumed everyone knew it, really.

Weird.

Please point out to me the part of the constitution where it specifies that church and state must be separate.

First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ."

and now explain to me how putting "in god we trust" on currency violates the first amendment of the constitution.

I hope that if I ever engage politics on the internets it will be something similar to or precisely this question of whether or not "In God We Trust" on coins violates the establishment clause of the US Constitution.

27AllIn, you might find some help here http://supreme.justia.com/us/465/668/case.html in both the majority and the dissent that may provide illuminating on the very important matter.

I had to conjure up a mental image of the dime and examine it for a few seconds before I got it.

It is not fair to put that message on anything public the same way you wouldn't want to see "there is no god" or "follow allah or die". Putting in god we trust on the currency respects christians who believe in a single god. There should be no message on currency, even "don't smoke it's bad for your health" or "always wear a helmet" would be wrong.

My snap answer was Hamilton, by the way, before remembering that he's on the other 10 thing and it's FDR.

Also, the most bull**** money face guy is Grant. He was a mediocre general and a terrible President.

I'd be offended by the nihilistic message that no message would infer.

I take back no message. I think something like "land of the free" would be okay. Just not something the government says to influence people.
