I would love to get one if u got a spare invite.

Can you let me know once u've got it, and how the phone compares to current smartphones?

Looking to replace my Nexus 4 but not sure if I should go for OnePlus One (if I could get my hands on one) or wait for the Nexus 6.
Also read some news regarding the screen turning yellow-ish

I love mine. There are plenty of reviews to go in further depth but I like it way better than s5

if you don't want a folder to show up in the gallery, just put an empty file called ".nomedia" in the folder. the file should just be empty and not be a txt file or something, just a ".nomedia" extension. http://android2know.blogspot.ch/2013...edia-file.html for more details.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....nomedia&hl=de seems to do the same

I just purchased my first tablet. Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 that just hit the market.

Might be a dumb question but should I install some sort of Antivirus software? If so, any recommendations?

Also, any texting apps that I can sync up with an HTC phone?

So far I'm very impressed with this tablet but obviously I don't have much to compare it to besides having used a friend's iPad mini.

If you have Verizon, Verizon Messaging app works well.

It's basically a myth that android devices need anti virus software, just don't install random apps from outside the play store and check what permissions they ask for when you install.

Ok cool. I've never even considered installing for my phone(s) but this is my first tablet so figured I'd better ask just to be safe.

BTW this Tab S 8.4 is ****ing amazing after one full day of usage. I'll give it a few more days then post my full review in case anyone is curious about it.

Edit: And the Verizon Messaging app works great so far, thanks for the recommendation, CrazyEyez.

Yeah no need for anti-virus or Juice Defender (battery saver) type apps anymore (and I don't believe there was ever a need for anti-virus).

Anyone hear anything about the Moto X+1 (aka X2) and/or the Nexus 6? Those are what I'm trying to hold out for. Unfortunately, I'm on Verizon and want to stay with them, so I might not even be able to get the Nexus 6 if/when it does come out.

There hang been minor leaks about the X+1, nothing too interesting I have seen yet, just stuff like having a full hd screen that iirc is up to 5" now.

I doubt leaks got the nexus 6 will be around for a couple months yet. Though it has been all but confirmed it will exist and that project silver thing won't replace the nexus devices.

Any guidlines wrt battery replacement for an S3? I have an upgrade whenever but I think I'll hold off for a while since my phone is OK, probably root it and screw around with some things, but the battery is completely toast.

That's easy - just look on Amazon or whatever and buy a replacement battery. Lots of knockoffs so you'll need to read the reviews and filter out the crap, but they're so cheap ($10-20) that it's worth it in your situation.

I got the Samsung extended battery for the S3 a while ago and I love it. Adds a little thickness (comes with a new back cover) but it's awesome to not have to worry about battery life. Was like $60 when I bought it, though, so might not be worth it.

While researching which tablet to buy I obviously read and watched tons of reviews and the Samsung line seems to vary quite a bit as you move up the price scale.

The specs are on this are nuts for the price and size so I'm sure you'd have a better experience.

But some people just don't like Samsung for a variety of reasons and there's nothing wrong with that.

Tab 3 is really low end. The Tab S is really high quality, arguably the best android tablet right now. They aren't really comparable.

Android things I have been loving recently but people may not know about:

Link Bubble quickly became one of my must have apps. If you have never tried it do so asap.

AutoVoice's new ability to intercept Google Now voice commands to activate Tasker commands is really cool. Being able to say "OK Google open my university documents" on the homescreen* and have Drive open up right to my essays and notes via AutoShortcut is great and it makes toggling various modes (at home, at work, outside etc) a doddle.

* yeah, sigh, OK Google everywhere doesnt work on UK English yet

App Dialer's ability to replace the Google Now shortcut (swipe up on Nexus, long press home on the GS5 etc) so you can really quickly launch an app from anywhere.

how come samsung galaxy s3 has no update for kitakat ? while iP4s can still be updated to iOs8? ins't that unfair for Android users ?

Because Samsung chose not to, but you can flash it if you really want.

Its OK though, iOS8 is still catching up to Gingerbread features and through Google Play Services updates they will get security updates and many features that would otherwise be in a new OS so they arent really losing out.

they do have kitkat updates for s3 (up to 4.4.2 so far), it is being slowly rolled out depending on ur carrier

the updates r only for the 2gb ram version of the s3 (so if u have the 1gb ram version u wont receive it)

My verizon contract is just about up. Anyone know if I can switch to AT&T and get on a family plan with a family member that has an existing AT&T contact? Or would we both have to sign a contract at the same time?

Looking at the S5 active.

Also, can AT&T copy over all my contacts? And apps/settings?

Provided you saved all your contacts on the Google account*, when you log into the Google account on the phone it will auto copy all your contacts along with apps from the play store.

* you can check at contacts.google.com
