I use Textra

The most recent update on the 30th has got a lot of negative feedback. It's very glitchy when using the drop down method.

Depends on what tablet you are using, what skin and what launcher. On Nexus tablets you can long press the home button and then swipe up. This will bring up the Google Now page and reveal all of your cards. On other devices like a Samsung for example, long pressing the home button will bring an option for Google Now, which you can click and it will bring up the page. For added convenience you can sideload the Google Now Launcher and that will automatically make the Google Now the page directly to the left of your home screen.

The above video is for phones but should work for tablets.

You have to put the phone on silent when using a music app.

Probably not explaining this as well as I could, but I'm hoping/assuming people already know what I'm talking about. Is there a way to go back to the old style where you can only do things in the standard interface?

Also, what are people's favorite text messaging apps anyway? I'm by no means attached to this one and would switch if there's one people here like better.
ChompSMS, made by the same people that make Textra.
I've used it for a year, haven't had any glitches and am happy with it.

Are there any good apps like heytell (sp?) that are cross platform between Android and iPhone?

Edit: Just checked and heytell is cross platform lol. If anyone knows of a similar app that is somehow better please do share though...

How to get Google Now:

1, have a device on Jellybean or later
2, google "start Google Now [my device name]"

Then find the instructions there. Some start with a long press of home, others a long press of menu, some swipe up from the bottom of the screen over the home button etc.

Alternately just install the Google Now Launcher from the Play Store and swipe to the left most screen.

I'd really appreciate some help with this one:

I just got a new phone and gave my GF my Nexus 5 so she could upgrade from her S4 (ATT).

I checked the auto-backup box before factory resetting her S4, reset my Nexus, we logged in to my N5 with her google info and everything was backed up except her contacts.

I initially thought she may have been saving all her contacts to her SIM instead of to Google, but when we try to import contacts from SIM on the Nexus, nothing shows up.

Is there an easy solution I'm not thinking of? Can ATT do anything in-store to restore her contacts, or am I stuck trying to figure it out with data recovery software like: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/top...ng-galaxy.html

If so, what is my best option for data recovery software? Thanks for any help!

busted my nexus 5 last night. what should i get? prefer something unlockable so i can use free tethering with my unlimited data plan. i liked the galaxy s4 slightly more than nexus 5 overall but the unlockability is kind of a deal breaker.

What broke? Ebay has tons of busted Nexus 5's for sell.

If your phone is water damaged, look for N5's with busted screens but still turn on. If the screen is busted, look for water damaged phones but that still have good screens.

Then swap out what you need.

Follow the disassembly directions on the ifixit website.

It is a possibility they were backed up to her Samsung account. I don't know how to best check but there must be info there you can Google up, presumably there is a Samsung contacts website.

Otherwise I have zero clue if you even can pull contract data off a factory reset device, I sure hope not!

Oh yea, Samsung kies... I will have to try that, thanks!

And fwiw I think there is a way even if you didn't back it up somewhere cloud based, because I've seen a few articles saying to be really careful when selling your phone because some data is recoverable even after the factory reset

1st step: find out if the contacts are in google contacts or not. https://www.google.com/contacts/ and

2nd step:
if yes: make sure that contacts-syncing is activated on the phone (it should be somewhere similar to: settings, accounts & sync, google, your google account name, and then you have checkboxes for all the stuff, and "contacts" is the one your looking for).

if no: as suggested, try something samsung specific, but no idea about kies.

3rd step: if contacts checkbox was on. turn it off, wait a little and turn it back on. repeat this and do it also for the whole "google-sync-account"

My phone allows me to make any portion of any song (that I have on my phone) a ringtone. I have an HTC Rezound which is pretty old so whatever you have probably also has the same capability.

But yeah there are websites. I used to use them in like 2006. I'm sure there are apps as well but don't have first hand experience.

I use the app Ringtone Maker by big bang inc to edit mp3s if I just want a specific part. Otherwise just set the mp3 as the ringtone in the settings.

I have an HTC m8, recently I'm unable to plug it into the computer and load files onto the micro sd. Internal phone storage works fine as far as plugging and loading. I was able to move files to the micro about a month ago. I should also mention my computer never keeps the "unplug usb drive" option open at all, I'm just pulling the plug when I'm done. Anyone have a fix?

I'm on a pc. I have HTC sync manager installed and updated to the latest version. Have only used HTC phones for the past few years and never came across this problem. It does say device driver not properly installed, though. Any attempts to get the new driver pointed to HTC sync manager

It should just mount without the HTC software. I know my S5 does.
