Same size as S3 near enough but nicer to hold. The back of the N5 really is very comfortable with the silk feel and curved shape; noticeably more so than the N4 too IMO which I always found a bit abrupt along the edges.

Anyone who wants to print from their KitKat device, this way it covers HP and the Google cloud print devices. It is something Android has needed for a while now, it is especially important in tablets.

I meant why isn't in just a Play Store app? Didn't know Cloud Print wasn't universal though.

Maybe the Note 3 if you dont mind the extra size, which has the advantage of the removable battery.

The camera on the G2 is the biggest difference between the two and frankly if that is a concern just buy a midrange compact with optical zoom with the ~$300 difference (and still have like ~150 left over) and you will get an even better camera than the G2 can boast anyway.
I'm worried about battery and battery only

Hi,

Am I able to use the Nexus 7 as a phone e.g have my own phone number and receive calls without using an app?

my gut - based only on guess - is that Moto X battery is better than N5. Moto phones are traditionally strong on battery and it seems like the X was optimized for something close to it

Having used it a fair bit today the N5 definitely has a worse battery life than my Note 2. But I reckon in standard use it should do 12 hours without nursing it as it gets low or finding somewhere to give it a quick charge in the middle of the day.

Fwiw if battery life is the big concern get a Samsung. Even if you are not getting a Note 3 and choose one of the GS4s or whatever the ability to just swap in a spare battery means you will never ever worry about the phone dying regardless of what you are doing with it.

Ordered one of these cases, Spigen are really good quality and ii is a quarter of the price of the official "bumpers", plus imo it looks considerably better.

I was quite impressed although I didn't get a full idea as I had it hooked up to my laptop a few times etc. I think once some custom kernels get refined properly they will produce pretty good results from the N5.

Yep this was my first choice out of the options available now. It looks good on too from pics I've seen posted.

Then the magazine is not taking into account someone like me who would swap out the software anyways.

considering all the reviews i have read about the G2 i doubt software is that bad, the only question do you want to overpay for a G2 over a N5.
Now if you got the money and want a better phone the G2 looked like one of the best phone this year

Since a colleague will get a G2 tomorow i ll be able to see it soon.
If battery is a concern the note 2 or 3 is a really good solution.
It s a bit bigger than the G2 tho, but if i had to pay premium price i d feel safer with a note, beeing stuck with a nexus 4 with no sd card and no removable battery for a couple months i miss samsung quite often

Anybody sync contacts from android (HTC One) with MacBook Airs contact book? Anyone who syncs their calendar (and can recommend a good cal app for android)?

the basic calendar app was fine for me so i never looked for an alternative , only one i ve used was the touchwiz one which was ok aswell

I use the standard Google Calendar, but I liked Touch Calendar a lot. The big drawback to TC was that it wouldnt display the colour of the appointments - if you dont colour code then it is imo the best calendar app out there, IIRC the only thing the paid version has over the free is widgets which is.

Re battery use, this is my first full day at uni using the N5:
http://i.imgur.com/AjLqBi5.png

Things to note, I took it off the charger as I left my room to go to class, so it wasnt draining overnight, yes this is just a 6hr snapshot but 15% in 6 hours is nice. Wifi is probably higher than normal because I had a weak signal some of the time and didnt find a setting to make the phone avoid poor signals but it is likely still a lower energy draw than if I were just on HSPA+ or (if I had it) LTE all the time. Screen is lower than you would expect because it spent more time in my pocket than in my hand, but I did a bit of reading through Feedly, went on some web pages, pulled up a couple of docs from Drive, Tasker was running but it was only turning the phone to silent during lectures and seminars and nothing fancy to save battery, I was syncing constantly for email/calendar/Now and as you can see I was streaming and playing music through headphones when I walked to and from Uni. Search and System had 3% each, off the bottom of the page. Falcon was refreshing my twitter feed every half hour (I didnt notice until just now) but I dont have facebook and I turned of G+ sync.

However a big reason that is probably lower than it may be for others in the same situation is when I had a free hour I had my Chromebook out doing random whatever instead of my phone, so that was probably a saving of 10-15% just there.

My own use tends to be pretty light in general, I dont expect that to be representative for everyone, but I am really surprised how little it seems to be eating up the battery through a pretty standard day for me.

Ordered an N5 last night. Have been on an N4 for a year and am quite happy with it. Google said it will not ship for 4-5 weeks and I won't be charged until it does ship, saw I have a pending debit on my VISA from them this morning, hopefully this is a good sign it ships earlier.

Have one of these cases for my N4, nice to see an N5 version already. IMO it's a great case.

Had Galaxy Nexus, now have Nexus 5.

Initial subjective impressions/feelings:
  1. Same width
  2. Same depth/thickness
  3. Nexus 5 is taller
  4. Google Hangouts, which now integrates SMS, seems pretty neat
  5. phone is super fast
  6. Wireless charging is pretty cool
  7. great build quality
  8. easy to hold and handle
  9. very minimalist/simple design, i like it

Obviously these are just my perceptions, I imagine that it's not literally the same width or depth, but it feels that way
