i think you being there is a good deterrent

somehow daily thunderstorms and seasonal hurricanes just aren't doing it for me. And I have lived in South Florida.

The high season in South Florida is the winter months, not the summer months. Just saying

Pretty sure most of the people in this thread would melt from the summer heat.

Also.. idk if I've ever heard one person say something good about Miami after a vist (sample sample size ldo).

Where are you staying? What's the nature of your visit and when are you getting out of the country?

thunderstorms have been very calm lately...and if you have lived here you should know that when they do come they dont last long at all.

yea the summer heat/humidity can be brutal if youre not used to it...but visiting miami without a guide really is a recipe for horrible horrible tourist attraction disaster. i make a promise to anyone in this thread that if they visit my part of south florida i will guarantee fun times during any day/night they chill with me. the best clubs are in miami, the best bars are in lauderdale, the best people are honestly right where i live. the best DIFTS drunkeness to be had is obv in key west tho...
05-09-2011 , 07:35 PM
Yep, Key West is known for drunkenness, but now there's a catch. Just recently the cops have begun enforcing the open container law, which they used to overlook on Duval Street if you had it in a plastic cup. A friend of mine found out recently, the hard way. The real kicker is that it isn't just a ticket. You also get to spend two days in jail.

This could put a real damper on tourism if they decide on a zero tolerance policy. However, they might just be doing it to the locals, like they do for bicycle lights.

I'd agree with both.. I'm a good couple hundred miles north and the heat/humidity is a bitch..... and I'd imagine with most major cities, a guide > no guide. I'd imagine I'll be in Miami in the next few years.... fiancée's parents have a time share in Freeport and we usually take the boat from Miami to Freeport.

I would still prefer Florida in the winter time. You do get used to the heat though as I remember finding it cold when the temperature dropped below 70ºF and I'm Danish. Our average temperature during the hottest moth is around 60ºF.

I would honestly stay out of Miami and go to the Ft Lauderdale area instead though. A main gripe I have is that you need a designated driver when going out to get drunk. That really sucks and I've never understood how you yanks deal with that.

South Florida wins in term of house prices. It's insane how cheap it was when I was there (2009).

^^Congrats on being a DD. Another solution is to just find an idiot like me that drives around after imbibing.

Not a brag so please dont go all high and mighty on me.

Miami is like the worst part of South FL atleast when it comes to ppl and driving. Really wish I lived in Fort Lauderdale, its a lot better and so much better stuff there then in Miami.

My roommate was in a car accident with my car today, which means that we are down to zero cars and me with no way to get to my finals this week.

Life is lovely.

Ok.

My professors have been saints and have actually moved my final dates around so I don't have anything pressing until Thursday now, by which time I should have a rental car lined up that the insurance company is likely going to pay for. In addition there should be no penalties by the insurance company for me not being in/near the vehicle at the time of the accident. My roommate is ok and so was the other driver.

Also, I have Portal 2 downloading.

I'm breathing a little easier now than I was a bit ago.
