So you're afraid they'll convert you? Unless you already lean that way you shouldn't worry.

from what ive heard its really gay or its really "cultural" (gay/boring) not much else apart from that.

I've never lived in SF but I've been there.

IMO SF is a very good place to be and if I were you I would jump at the chance of going there (assuming everything is equal compared to your other opportunities in UK). While SF do have a "hippie" feeling to it it isn't really gay from my experience. I do suspect there is a bunch of gay bars and stuff but just don't go there if you don't want to.

The main gripe I had about SF was that the weather is so poor compared to the rest of the area. It's like a local UK in California. I might just have been unlucky though. SF is a pretty awesome place and definitely a place I wouldn't mind living.

I've heard the weather there can be quite dull but still an awesome city.

SF is amazing, its a great city, and I dunno what people are talking about weather wise It has the most stable year round weather in Norcal for sure, it never gets as hot as everywhere else. I used to live near Sacramento (like 2 hours East of SF) and it would get over 100F in the summer, and SF stays about 15 degrees cooler. There are tons of great places to go and things to see.

In terms of it being "gay" its not like dudes are going to assault you on the street, just don't go to a ghey bar and you will be fine lol. If I could afford to live there (its ridic expensive) it would certainly be on of my top choices of places to live.

If you're going to San-fran-cisco, be sure to wear...

*Insert funny sentence about not wearing garments drawing the attn of 'the gays' to your BUM*

I always just ride the Muni (its a train that goes underground and above ground too) and its fine lol, and it goes around most of the city and runs 24/7, and people also walk a bunch, but cabs are prevelant too.

There is a good number of homeless people in the crappy areas, but its still fine. I walked through some bad neighborhoods at 1 am once and I survived, no homeless people attacked me or beat off on me.
