This player point thing is for sure going to effect that larger player pool though:
Poker can be really boring. VIP points encourage players to keep playing especially through losing sessions. What a site should really want is to have their players focus on collecting points rather than to focus on whether they are having a winning or losing session. One of the really smart things that UltimateBet did amongst all their really dumb things was to show the player points being earned in real time just below the hero's seat. That certainly motivated me to play longer sessions.
Losing the VIP points has the effect of an across the board rake increase. So some of the break even players are going to slip into the losing catagory and some of the losing players are going to see their bankrolls slip away that much faster. I would think that some players will start looking elsewhere to play as a result.
A lot of players don't read 2+2, some have never even heard of it. There are going to be a lot of players who didn't receive emails and who are going to find that their VIP points are gone. They are going to be very pissed. That is not good for business.
