Chau was just playing a joke on the Jap. He snatched a few chips to get the Jap all worked up. Things got out of hand. We've all done this. I grabbed a guys stack one time when he wasn't looking. Everybody at the table saw me do it. When "the guy" turned around and noticed his stack was missing the look on his face was priceless.

Needless to say we all got a big laugh out of it.

Grabbing someone's entire stack when he turns his head ( although I would never do it) is far different then taking 800 off a large stack when a guy is in the mens room. When you take the entire stack it's obvious the player will realize what happened, not the case at all when taking just a few chips.

in one of Barry's books he mentions how Chau and his wife sacrifice live chickens when they're running bad to change their luck.

It is better to be a live chicken than a dead Hirohito.

Good manner poker players, just stop using the term "Jap". As Japanese, I would say it is Quite uncomfortable to see it.

If it were really a joke he doesn't let it go to the point of going to the security tapes.

Exactly. And if Todd was willing to play this guessing game on twitter basically spelling out who it is, he might as well update the situation with more details.

But apparently the Bellagio probably really did just sweep this under the rug and gave that guy a comp and told him to chill out, meanwhile quietly apologizing to Chau for the inconvenience of going to the security tapes and questioning his integrity.

These two are not equivalent. The second is simply a description, the first is a slur.

"Jap" is to a Japanese or Japanese-American what "*****" is to a Chinese, "****" is to a Vietnamese, "guido" is to an Italian, "******" to a black/African-American, "****" for a Jewish person, "****" is to a Latino/Latina, etc. (Curious to see which of these get blocked by the forum rules, too.)

I'm all about context, however. "Jap" is so outdated, that I assume Todd uses it in endearment here.

EDIT: evidence that "jap" isn't that big a deal – it's not banned here. But I can't use the phrase "a ***** in the armor."

Do you hate the people of every country that has ever been in war?

I would avoid using the term. Toad tweeted a series of riddles, and that was one of the clues.

There is some precedent for abbreviated terms for citizens of some countries:

Turks from Turkey
Czechs from Czechoslovakia
Afghans from Afghanistan
Argies from Argentina
Thais from Thailand
Malays from Malaysia
Aussies from Australia

So why was the floor called? So why is TB using a joke to tarnish someone's reputation?
