my dad has seen jordan golfing countless times and has spoken to some of his caddies who usually get tipped ~100 for a round and jordan stiffs them with the mentality that his presence is tip enough (mentioned earlier in thread)

Remember reading an SI when I was a kid about a golf match with Jordan and someone else. They were setting up the terms of the match to wager and whoever was playing with Jordan asked him how much he wanted to bet. Jordan said "whatever amount makes you nervous."
Now thats ****ing baller.
He got beat for several hundred K, and ended up stiffing the guy for a couple of hundred. This happened in San Diego in the 90's.
Love this thread, but tons of misinformation about Jordan's ownership of the Bobcats.
Virtually NO one in sports owns a team outright. Most teams have a majority owner who owns something like 55 to 60% and then a bunch of lesser owners. Outside of football, I don't know of any team that's owned 100% by one man/one family.
Jordan's the majority owner (or will be, not sure if the sale is entirely complete), but unless someone has an article that states exactly how much he owns, it's just a complete guess as to how much of the team he owns. But there's absolutely no way he owns 100%, first, it's just not done, second, the reports about the sale mentioned that the previous owner (the BET founder) stayed on as a minority owner.
My best guess would be that he owns about 60% of the team, but that's a complete shot in the dark based on the fact that 55-60% is the standard for a majority owner, it varies from team to team of course.
That said, this thread rules and the stories about Jordan or other athletes being degens is awesome. Someone needs to get Jordan onto a poker show - in the interest of fairness, don't put him up against Ivey/Antonius/Durr, but Jordan taking a pot off of Phil Hellmuth would be awesome.
Looks like ESPN reads NVG. They just did a short spot on his gambling issue on the morning sportscenter bringing up several issues from this thread. There is also a 30 for 30 on it tonight I guess.
They showed interviews with Steve Kerr and some Bulls exec claiming it is a ridiculous rumor that he played baseball because of his gambling issues.

Of course ESPN reads NVG. Reading NVG is like masturbating; everyone does it and its not something you should be ashamed of, but its not something you should be proud of either.
Well, no matter how many young whores mj bangs or nike dollars he collects, he'll still have to deal sometime with being responsible directly or indirectly for his dad's death. That's a lot of karma.

Here is a real question to think about. I wonder who makes more money on this Ivey with FTP or Jordan with Nike or you really can't even compare.
That is not a real question. Michael Jordan could afford to buy Phil Ivey and have him murdered with a gun made out of diamonds while burning million dollar bills or something
If you're interested in funny NBA gambling stories you should know about certified bad-ass Charles Oakely. Everyone in the NBA was afraid of this guy.
Back in 2000 Oakley (then with the Toronto Raptors) won $54,000 in a dice game from the 76ers Tyrone Hill. Apparently Hill took his sweet time paying the debt and Oak did not approve. "A gentleman pays his debt within a week or two," Oakley said.
Before a pre-season game, Oakley walked up to Hill and bitch-slapped him. He was suspended from the game. During pre-game warm-ups of their first regular season game, Oakley lobbed balls across the court at Hill, hitting him in the head.
"Everything in life doubles," Oakley said. "If he hasn't paid me $108,000 he hasn't paid me." Hill apparently paid the $108,000 in 2001.
In an unrelated Oakley story, he once told Charles Barkley "every time I see you I'm going to slap you," and proceeded to do just that. At player union meetings and during games - often right around tip-off, Oakley slapped Barkley. Not sure if or how that beef was ever resolved.
