Play close attention to the matter of Sun Cruz cruise lines and off shore casinos. There is a striking similarity to what happened to Full Tilt Poker and what happened to Sun Cruz. In fact, the situations are almost identical. Replace Gus Boulis with Ray Bitar and Kidan with Bernard Tapie.

This law firm was in the business of putting casinos out of business only to have the casinos hire them to get them opened up again. FTP's attorney still has stock in them and was a former employee.
You spotted some amazing similarities. Really, opened my eyes.
Excellent post.

(2) If he wants people to return and play on FTP2, he'll have to pay players back.

(3) Without this deal, we might get $0.25 on the dollar years from now if we're really lucky, so the baseline Tapie would have to beat is quite low.

Tapie's history is a non-issue.
I agree with the bolded bits.

Tapie's history might be relevent in at least four different ways:
  1. One would hope that licensing authorities would do background checks on all principals, and ban anyone unsuitable. Given Alderney's track record, even in the unlikely event that Bernard Tapie didn't pass the sniff test, putting up Laurent as the front man (may be why he is reported as now being the Managing Director of GBT, a change that seems to have happened only since GBT started looking at the FTP deal) will probably be enough to get a license. However, because of Bernard's background, getting a license is not a slam dunk.
  2. Tapie's past business dealings centre on reviving failing firms. This is positive news for players, as he has the experience and mindset that make a restart of FTP more likely with Tapie than with many others who might have taken a look. Tapies's backround makes the chanes of players gettinh their hands on full balances much higher than if he wasn't involved.
  3. Tapie's history of playing fast and loose with the rules puts his acquisitions at greater risk of instability. So while Tapies backgound improves teh chances of getting balances back, it also increases the risk to those balances over the longer term compared to at least some other operators. This may indicate to some that they should cash out not too long after FTP is up and running again.
  4. Tapie's past business experience also involved selling off firms once he tidied them up, so it seems possible that Tapie's plan might not involve a long-term commitment. I wouldn't be overly surpised to see him sell FTP once the US market becomes legal again. Again this will be seen as a positive for many players, but in the longer term.

Correlation is not causation.

Obviously they had cross-connections. Also the Irish situation is much closer in origin to the US sub-prime crisis than what is happening in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

I used to think getting a little money at the end of all this would be the best thing, but I've about decided not having to wade through all the long winded dothemath posts will be better

I'd rather read 300 long winded DoTheMath posts than one more "this thread sucks" post. Just because DTM isn't saying what you want to hear or giving you an exact answer as to when or if you'll get to play on FT again doesn't mean he isn't adding significant value to this thread.

It's a fact, as well documented as the rest of those represented in this thread, that the sovereign debt crisis was started when Henrietta Schmidt, angry at her husband for losing $20 playing online poker, demanded that he withdraw the balance of his funds from an unnamed poker site. The resultant drop in M1 money supply triggered a series of increasingly greater panics, the results of which are still being felt today.

It's been what, two weeks since the lawyer's statement hoping to have this deal resolved within the next several weeks? Does anybody here think the next statement will be to announce the deal is finalized?

What was the number again of this spokesperson from the DOJ,somebody posted his contact details a few months back?
I would really be interested to phone him and ask about the current state of negotiations.Maybe nobody is negotiating anymore and they did not bother to tell us.
The silence has been going on for a very long time and that caused a lot of people to lose all their optimism (or the rest of it that they had left). So maybe there are so ways how we can find out where we really stand. One would be phoning the DOJ,another simple option might be to go to pocketkings headquarters and talk to the employees, third option might be to kidnap HL,but you would need a truck or a crane to move him around.
Hint,I meant the first two options seriously....

I've said this before but Ifelt all along theDOJ should have had a liaison to answer player questions.

In before 2000 people try to convince me how impractical it would be.
