Why do they break stacks? Can't 250bb cap tables be arranged?

Basically 11/10 and 10/11 in standard Irish & UK bookmaking terms. Except a bookmaker won't give you an even book, he will give you 11/10 and 4/5 or worse to give him an edge.

With different odds going around people should be trying to balance their bets in a book that favors the bettor i.e. simple example: 1k on Sauce @ evens & 1k on WCG @ +110 for break even if Sauce wins and profit if WCG wins. Because really, this is absolutely not the type of event you want to be having a bet in. A bet is only fun if it wins and longterm you will not get rich with opinions on even money shots that nobody knows for certain how much the edge is and then luck could render it all pointless.

Luck can ruin the profit of a +EV bet but it isn't pointless.

Just like with sports bets, a lot of people aren't betting because they think they have an edge. It just gives them a reason to further enjoy the match and motivation to watch it.

I see your point but I don't agree with it. Bookmakers are rich because of fun bets. To me gambling is only fun if it means I don't have to do a 9 to 5 and so there can be no room for such bad habits.

Yeah I can see that. Part of bookmakers being rich is that they charge vig. This is more flipping coins and enjoying the match with 0EV bets.

can someone elaborate on how accurate is result of 15k hands challange? i've always thought that variance in hunl is too big to make it possible to determin who has edge after playing such small sample, especially if we are talking about the match that is definitely going to be close

There was some discussion ITT about this, though I'm not sure what was agreed. I believe that it's essentially a coin flip and therefore betting lines at 1:1 make the most sense.

The hand sample size doesn't affect the odds, just the variance associated with the result. Sorry to say it, but the whole 'well it's a small sample so it's 50:50' is fish talk.

I don't think 1:1 makes sense

you have a HUNL specialist going up a very good poker player who's been focusing on PLO and mixed games for the past year or two.

That makes sense, it wouldn't affect the odds.

Surely the variance means that, with only one match being played at 15k hands, the favourite’s edge is largely negated? If you thought, for instance Rider was a favourite and set odds on a bet, wouldn't it make sense to bet on Sauce given the variance?

If I'm thinking about this wrongly, I am happy to be corrected.

Of course the length of the match changes the odds lol.

What are the odds of me beating WCGRider in a 1 hand match? How about in 1000 hands? How about in a million? Obviously as hands approach infinity the odds in favor of the better player winning approaches 100 %, no matter how big or small his edge. And obviously as hands approach one, the odds approach 50/50.

Another way to look at it, what are the odds of you winning a short blackjack session? How about your odds to win over time the more and more you play? Obviously they decrease. The better player in a heads up match is the house, the worse player is the player.
