+1, i can only hope that that argument is being pushed by kids. the thought that adults would think this is laughable.

Also guys he couldn't post for 24hr hours. Let us not forget.

If he doesn't post again its going to hurt him more than it hurts two plus two, by a large amount. I'm sure anytime he posts or has posted any kind of link to his site, his sites hits have gone up. I mean overall he probably owes more to twoplustwo, than twoplustwo owes to him.

These aren't the same thing. I've met several presidents of the US. I'd wouldn't say I know any of them. As MM has said several times, he met him a long time ago and hasn't spoken to him in years. I doubt MM believes he knows him at all outside of what he's read and seen.

It appears you received some conflict resolution training. I'd ask for a refund if they taught you that conflicts can be resolved by saying things publicly in the media.

You're silly. Of course they can ban him if they want to. But the point is that they shouldn't.

And if you think that celebrities don't live in a much different world than "regular people" there's not much I can do to help you.

Mason - you come off as a total douche the way you have handled the situation....clearly, you do not possess the great people skills you speak of.

This incident just shows the underlying arrogance of this site and mods, as ive experienced it myself.

All the different threads on this subject, and the only thing that sticks with me is this: Daniel Negreanu is apparently the Tiger Woods of poker.

I frequently refer to DN as Negreanu also, but certainly not out of any sense of disrespect.
SantaCruz, to spare me from looking through the different threads or thumb through all of the content on this topic, who took issue with referring to him by last name? Was it Negreanu himself? Funny that this came up at all.

For what it's worth, I work in media relations/PR. Everything you wrote in this post is exactly right, assuming this was a news article or the like. In general, the only times to use a first-name reference would be to prevent ambiguity (e.g. you're writing an article on the Mizrachi brothers) or when you're covering a Brazilian football team.

The strangest thing i am finding out after this whole situation is just how old all these guys who run and moderate 2+2 are.

What is the average age of 2+2 owners and moderators?
On the evidence of the people caught up in this incident it must be over 45 at least. This may be part of the reason that some of the moderators come off as out of touch or arrogant IMO.

P.S. my location is not an attack on moderators before the banhammer get raised

true on both counts

but when push comes to shove, this is a business and Mason doesn't need to break out the knee-pads just because Daniel is Daniel and should be treated like royalty. This is 2+2 not FCP, and Mason doesn't have any obligation to him whatsoever

But, I do think the '57 posts' aspect of his initial reply shows you just how far out of touch he is. Trying to place a value on his 'post count' and neglecting to note his star power was a horrible analogy. Bad idea to piss off arguably the most recognizable pro in the poker world, and pretty obvious Mason has a massive ego.

However...

Mason can do whatever the **** he wants, and with 250K members the money will keep rolling in no matter what DN says or how much he cries about it. His absence here won't even make a ripple in actual traffic here, let alone the revenue stream. But with that said, If I was DN I would tell Mason to shove it, and never post here again.

moral of the story is that Mason has handled everything poorly, that is a no brainer. Yes the mods intervene here way too much, also true. The burden of this whole 'situation' lies upon the 'mod' who had the balls to ban the most famous poker player and biggest asset to our community

the checks will keep rolling in month after month after month though and Daniel not posting here (or posting here) won't make a bit of difference in the bottom line

So when a moderator, especially one we know well, contacts me (which by the way is highly unusual since I don't normally get involved in the moderation) and explains to me what is happening, we usually go along with what the moderator recommends because we trust the moderator to be accurate. But in this case I did tell him to reduce the ban from three days to only one.

As for whether Negreanu would be posting a lot of ads if we allowed that, this is something I don't know. I've met Negreanu but hardly know him at all, and have never had any sort of real conversation with him although we did exchange some emails over ten years ago.

But I do know that when people self promote, it's our experience that if we don't stop them most (of them) will continue to do so. Now this doesn't mean that would be the case here, but we don't know that. Perhaps if I knew Negreanu better my conclusion would be the same as yours.

However, from listening to the QuadJacks show, Negreanu claimed that he did not understand our rules were being violated. But our moderator indicated to me that Negreanu had received and read the pm that was sent to him after the first post that was deleted went up, and we assumed that it should be clear to Daniel at that point in time that our rules were being violated. So I assume this is where the disconnect occurred.

Anyway, to finish, I have sent Negreanu a pm with a proposal that I think can bring all of this to a conclusion. So we'll see what happens.

Mason

PS: I want to ad one more comment. In 1987 I self-published our first book, and at that time, we were a tiny company. Today, approximately 25 years later, we have grown into a very successful publishing company as well as a successful Internet company, and during all these years, I have had to work with a lot of people. This includes 20 different authors, employees and independent contractors involved directly with 2+2, lots of people who represent other businesses that we deal with -- we've been with the same printer for 19 years and have done a huge amount of printing with them, plus they now handle our digital books as well, we've had the same account for many years, the same attorney since 1987, and so on. So I suspect that if my people skills were as bad as you proclaim, it's unlikely that all of this would have happened, or else I just got incredibly lucky.

Wilbury, it was me and it related to MMs usage in the above post.
I later said that I appreciate it's a minor point and tbh I wish now I hadn't made it. It just jarred with me at the time and I thought writing 'Daniel' or 'DN' would be both shorter and more appropriate/polite.
I 100% agree that it's not incorrect to use 'Negreanu' here. I would have used Daniel or DN but MM elected not to, which is completely fine. I was wrong to take a shot at him over it.
You're right, I'm wrong. Let's move on.

Gigglegirl, there is nothing really to apologize for. That isn't something everyone knows. I went to journalism school and spent many hours on that type of trivia. Mason is a publisher so I'm sure he is aware of the proper forms too. But certainly most people have better things to do with their time. I just wanted to make sure that Mason wasn't given a bad rap over that.
