UK, no tax on gambol winnings. Great selection of sites to play on as a result. dem fishy eurosites.

Great school system and much cheaper university fees than US/CA. Of course i'm assuming you'd apply for residence etc.

UK is nuts for a family poker player IMO.

good point bobo...I dont ski so no reason to like winter. I am going to look closer into chilli and abby, (crime capital of bc?). Funny how people jump to the high end of my estimate....I'd say im burning thru 99k a year if i had to put a number on it. Is that number so ridiculous considering the 2 kids and 2 dogs? Anyone with a family care to comment?

you really need to give a breakdown of where the money is going and what kind of financial safety net you have in place before you can get any worthwhile advice.

You could live like a king in North bay, Ontario.
Yes it is kind of cold but only 3 hours from Toronto.

I live in Montreal.
Way cheaper then Vancouver.
7$ a day daycare for kids.
You can drop your kids of at school at like 7am and pick them up at 7pm (for 7$)
You could survive without a car (even with kids)
or buy a relative cheap house in suburbs.

Have you checked out pemberton.
They over built for the whistler winter Olympics.
You could rent a super nice house for a pretty good deal.
Most renters just want it for the winter...

Wife doesn't work....don't believe in government/daycare raising my kids.

I have heard a bit about the deals in whistler(dont like snow), is there enough to do there in the off-seaseon and good schools?

What's your budget like? Have you ever done one? I guarantee you could trim that down if your rent is only 2k.

I dont know if you like another cultures but Portugal is the place to go... Cheap houses, cheap cost of life and great culture and great weather.

The people are friendly and its the best place to raise your family.

We dont have any legislation and i think that will not happen in the next 2 years minimum!!!

I've got 2 kids, living in the Lower Mainland as well. I think your number is higher than ours, but not radically so. $10 K sounds relatively high and should be easily trimmed; $8 K is a little leaner, and if I sat down and figured it out more carefully than I usually do, is probably pretty close to our expenses.

If you sit down and just add up monthly expenses like rent/mortgage, utilities, groceries, car(s), etc, you'd probably find $8-10 K to be high. But if you look at it on more of an annual basis and start factoring in all the other things you spend in a year, it adds up quickly. Clothes, birthdays, Christmas, school supplies, sports registrations, entertainment, etc...and that's not even thinking of travel.

I could easily see living for $6 K/month or less here fairly comfortably, but it might mean giving up things that OP would prefer not to.

Also, if you don't mind your winters a little colder and you like the hot weather, you might really want to consider Kamloops. They actually don't get that much more snow than we do (about 50% more which isn't that much in Canada/northern US), and they get lots of sunshine. I don't like hot weather and have very strong family and friend ties keeping me here, but if I didn't and wanted to cut expenses, it would be one of the first places I'd look at.

I know I mentioned it before, but I was just looking at the weather again for the hell of it and found it was a little better than I thought previously. And it's only about a 3-3.5 hour drive back here.

But the country is close to bankrupt. I have family who actually moved from Madeira to Vancouver, because nearly all public service closed down. Schools were affected with cutdowns, after-school-activities for kids were closed, etc etc.

That its not truth at least in the mainland... Yes, the country have some financial problems but he come to play poker, not to find a job (find a job is very difficult right now).

I live in Oporto and the things are same, except the part that the people receive less money and have to work a lot harder...

Australia & UK are expensive aswell. Does English has to be main language spoken?

If you play poker online and your wife doesn't work, why do you have to live in big city though? Find some nice small town in Canada with ~ 10K people, isn't it alot of cheaper and still have everything necessary for everyday life like kindergardens, schools, decent grocery shops etc?

Thx for all the suggestions Bobo, I grew up in BC so im familar with all the cities you talk about. Okanagan is really nice. My thoughts were since all I need is a stable internet connection and legalized online poker why I am living in a place with high taxes, cost of living and bloated gas bag of a RE market? Why not move somewhere that I can pay cash for a house and save a bunch of money month-to-month. I know where the cheap places are ie. mexico, thailand but I need to think about a good place to raise the family as well as cheapness.

Estonia is quite cheap and on the same time euro enough (pretty much everyone speaks english, currency is Euro, it's safe), but weather is meh... Or pretty much like in Canada probably. Internet is very good though, probably one of the best in the world

I also believe there are english-only schools. In capital, new ~ 800-1000 sq ft apartment in centre costs like $130-200K$, you can get quite new baller 2000-4000 sq ft house for $250-300K, and it's alot cheaper in other cities.

I think it's pretty impossible to get a loan from the bank as a poker pro in here tho.

Ontario should have some good options.

I live in Hamilton and prices are ~1/2 of what they are in Toronto and I live in a great neighboroughood where I can walk to tons of stores, schools, restaurants etc.

Kingston is nice and I've heard good things about Peterborough for what you are looking at.

Come to Liverpool (England). You can a buy a house for as little as $500, and the area of Anfield where I'm from is ultra safe once you've paid your protection fees.

All the girls have orange faces and you are just a 5 minute walk from Everton FC's football ground.

The schools are also very easy going. Most of the teachers have lost the will to live, so no worries in regards to your kids getting sexually exploited.

The gary's and beak are also top notch for when you're looking for some weekend downtime.

I am not saying you are as bad (or even bad) as people on the show but you might pick up some suggestions to lower expenses.

Thought I heard somewhere that there's no PST in Alberta (only GST). Which would make purchases of goods and services 7% cheaper than in BC, based on tax savings alone. Maybe somebody can confirm if that's the case?

Also, maybe there's a way for you and your family to become eligible for the provincial healthcare plan, if you aren't already?

Hey jigga, hit me up if you want to talk about Thailand. I live in Northern Thailand and it's extremely family friendly. You could easily live here on 3K/month plus education costs (my monthly nut is 3.5K including paying for my step daughter's university education in Bangkok). My only concern in your spot is your kids getting a good international education. There are international schools here, but I'd worry about the quality.

I lived in Hamilton while attending McMaster, it's a dirty city because of all the factories(known as steel city) with places like downtown/Barton st area that you will want to not go around(not because of the factories) I live in Kingston now and it's much nicer, though a little more boring sometimes being a smaller city and all. You could live here comfortably for ~50k a year or less easily with your family.

Correct, except the PST doesn't apply to most services in BC. No PST on food (groceries or restaurant meals) either.

Belgium might be an option as well if you don't mind living in Europe.
Here poker is legislated, and people are allowed to play on pokerstars.
I have a friend who is a professional player and according to him you don't have to pay taxes on live winnings.
Online winnings according to him the 'gaming commision' wants people to pay, but it's against european law.
So not sure about that part about what to do.
Heck it would be a lot cheaper, even when you live like a king.
10k usd is about 7,5k in euros, most people in belgium don't even make 3k a month together after taxes and still manage to buy a house or rent.
My guess is in the big cities and appartment (a nice one), is about 750-1000 in rent.
A house maybe 1,5k, and when you move a little out of the centre it's already a lot cheaper.
For education etc for your kids it won't be bad, they have these special classes for language for immigrants and I even think it's free.
Normal school is 'free' except for books etc, and when you go further it's still payable.
