This is a bit of a sidetrack, but I've got to make sure I'm understanding this. $1,000/
month for property tax???

If true, this isn't something I was aware of, and I can't see why it would be the case. Sadly, almost all of our travel outside of BC is down to the US, so I don't know either way, but I'd be pretty surprised to hear that day-to-day living expenses other than housing were a lot more here than other places in Canada. Unless you meant going out for food - I guess I could believe that restaurants are expensive here, and I know that gas and liquor taxes are high. But if groceries and general household needs are a lot more here, I wasn't aware of that.

Yeah, I had the same thought. I've got digital cable with everything but movie channels and sports subscriptions, and I'm under $100/month. I guess things like Sunday Ticket and Centre Ice packages could drive it up, but still, wow. And $125 per cell phone? Yikes!

I don't think anyone is claiming to "just get by"; the lifestyles I'm hearing described are definitely middle class, but not what I'd call lavish.
