Trump policies like trade wars and subsidizing underperforming industries like coal or steel production lowers employment and economic growth.

Eric Adams and Mike Johnson share a spiritual belief of staggering hubris

Quote:
I am mayor because God gave me the authority to be mayor

I believe that scripture, the Bible, is very clear: that God is the one who raises up those in authority.
God talk by these politicians and others like them is a way to
characterize their authority as “God given” to appeal to religious voters.

In the 2020, half of white American Evangelicals believed that Trump had been chosen by God.

Quote:
You want the kingdom of God to be the government? YES. You want God to
take over the government? YES! WE want God to be in control of everything!
For them, God’s laws applied to all women’s bodies, whether they are Christian or not.

They are signaling to people who embrace dominionist and Christian
nationalist beliefs that they’re the ones who’ll bring God’s kingdom in.

They’re the ones who’ll put God, and not the will of the people, first.

When you hear candidates say they have been chosen by God, beware.
That hubris is hiding an authoritarian political worldview based on their limited view of God

Dems policies of spending bankrupt the future...

Give me low energy and commodity pricing over tens of trillions in debt any day of the week.

One of those two are manageable and stable, the other is unsustainable and an endgame.

I do believe the USA was founded on Christianity and the separation of church and state

So what if they say they were chosen by God that is what they believe. We see it in every aspect of life. A guy wins the superbowl and thanks God

Your mocking ones beliefs

i cant wait(hopefully) for the time that a politician saying "god spoke to me to vote this way" gets you publicly shunned the same way saying "my dog told me to vote this way" would.

Mike Johnson or his wife not having any bank accounts seems extremely weird. Is there an explanation that isn’t strange/fraud?

not really.. but the whole thing plays badly in optics to dwell on it, imo. it's too complicated for sound bites. because if they are smart they are just going to say that he's just a normal american that lives paycheck to paycheck like you..

much better to focus on the fact that he's an insurrectionist, him and his family funded/ran a ****ing conversion therapy camp, and that he thinks the earth is 5000 years old.

I can't wait (hopefully) for the time that a politician saying "god spoke to me to kill those Jewish babies" doesn't result in 1 billion+ people crying out in joy.

You all can go on being hyper critical of the United States and Jews and giving everyone else a free pass for abhorrent behavior. But I guarantee there is no salvation down this path and this is going to make the world a much worse place.

I dont think this kind of prejudice is a productive way to approach the world, and will cause more harm than good. You can feel free to disagree obviously.

okay, people are not this dumb. not having a bank account is a very weird thing people don't relate to unless the IRS has frozen your assets.

i used "God" for two reasons, a) it's the most common in the united states, and b) saying "allah spoke to me" is probably already disqualifying in US politics.

if a person is that deep in the weeds that they are saying their deity actually spoke to them directly and told them to do something they shouldn't be in charge of anything.

So is having a net worth of $10M+ (and often $100M+) after 20 years of making $150K/yr, like a lot of politicians do.

But people that talk like this, or very similar, are in charge of a lot of important things. And the course of action you seem to prefer this will increase, not decrease. Embracing far left ideology and tribal zero sum thinking at the expense of liberalism, is going to ultimately make the country, and the world, more tribal, ignorant and religious. Even if it isn't specifically Yahweh or Allah they are praying too, the result will be more or less the same.

Or unless all of their money is in overseas accounts. Still weird I'm assuming he gets paid with a check if its not direct deposit. So does he use a check cashing service or something?

This is an issue as well, but its a different one than what we're talking about here.

the course of action i prefer is that humans shouldn't need a sky man to tell them to not murder each other(or in some cases TO murder each other). and we should definitely believe the earth is older than 6,000 years old or whatever Mike Johnson believes.

people at large may or may not require continued reliance on said skymen for whatever reason, but getting it out of US government couldn't come quickly enough in my opinion.

which is why in a similar vein it would be nice when "i don't believe in god" isn't basically disqualifying.

i'm not even really an atheist, i just dont think what i believe should have any effect on others.

Spending doesn’t go down under republican administrations but taxes do. Energy prices go down under republicans because they always seem to cause massive recessions.

All of it seems relevant. The republican party is incredibly extremist right now and the fact that a guy like this who has views so far away from regular people compared to Biden/Harris etc is the highest ranking republican should be pointed out. Extremism and having idiotic views are not the same tbh v but this guy clearly has both and that’s not just him but mainstream conservative thought right now.

40 years ago you could have said the same thing about elected homosexuals. That doesn't mean there weren't any.

While I am a firm atheist and hate Donald Trump, I have to say he is the past president most likely to actually have been an atheist.
