yeah, i am serious. they could charge a high rent, but waive the rent during months where the player played a certain amount of volume.

and they could help with the details of making the move.

It's the first time in my life I've ever lived more than 2 consecutive years anywhere, (now running on ten yrs) so it definitely has something going for it.
I'm interested in this as well, did you go on a student or work Visa or did you just go as a poker player and have somehow been able to stick around for 2 years?

I'm sure that Afghanistan, a predominantly Muslim country, whose religion frowns on alcohol and most other vices, would welcome online poker with open arms...

I would be interested in moving to some place in the Caribbean and possibly Thailand. I love fly fishing so i would need a place where I can fish pretty regularly. I'm not 100% set as of now since I'm going to wait a few months to see what happens.

so apparently we are allowed to go there... but if we spend even 1 dollar there we are enemies of the state or something.
that being said lots and lots of americans go there every year. i dont think they fly there through a US airlines though, and dunno if they even give a **** about ever returning to the USA. Sounds like a super baller place though

O CANADA:

So let's break this down:

Apply for and get your US passport (4-6 weeks, 2-3 weeks if expedited)

Find some college campus apt room for cheap.

Get to the border, say "hey I'm visiting for a few months"

Get to your apt, move the f* in.

Go to your local RBC with your passport and US DL.
http://www.rbc.com/canada/financial/accounts/open.html

Go to your local Ministry of Transportation and get a local DL. This does not seem to be hard.

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/visiting.shtml
If you are a visitor to Ontario and want to drive while you are here, you must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver's licence from your own province, state or country. If you are from another country and visiting Ontario for more than three months, you need an International Driver's Permit from your own country or you may have to apply for an Ontario driver's licence, depending on your length of stay.

send this info to stars/ftp and blammo, you're good.

am I missing anything? Obviously you have to leave after 6 months, but hey it's a start.

Nice, now we just need Stars and FTP to confirm that they will allow relocation for american players, I know stars has confirmed that they do, but it doesn't seem to be possible on the software as of now to change your country of residence. Unless this is different for someone?

I thought they only showed that if you did this right, they would "review" each case. Here's an estimate IMO on how long "review" might be, assuming one does everything perfectly: 45 days

ha, your probably right, esp now, Stars prob had to hit up labor ready for people to handle all of emails and such they are dealing with. Guess I could just go there and get all this **** handled then come back and wait, god this sounds like a lot of work .

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but why not go move to a US border town like the Detroit metro area, rent some office space across the border in Canada, and drive to work to play online poker. Windsor is right across the border from Detroit, so I would think you could live in Detroit suburbs and commute to a Windsor office in about 30-45 minutes. This way you could have a Canadian address and utility bills, get a Canadian bank account, and then start playing at Stars, Party, where ever. The only catch is you can only play poker in the Canadian office, not back at your US residence. But you still could do things like watch instructional videos, review HH's etc. back at home.

This might be a bit of an expensive option, but I'm sure rent is cheap in the Detroit metro, and I would think you could rent a small (250 sq. ft. or so) office in Windsor for < $1000/mo. It would be much more doable if several people went in on it. I'm sure there are several other US/Canadian border town pairs to choose from as well. This is assuming everything I mentioned is feasible and legal.

I'm not an attorney and cannot give legal advice. That said, unfortunately there is a distinct legal difference between having a residence and having residency. Your scenario is a good example of why this is so. Establishing Canadian "residency" seems to rank about mid-range on a difficulty scale by country. Stars and FTP communications indicate they are aware of the difference, and will eventually consider requests from customers who meet the residency requirements.

I'm assuming that the id will need to be from the new non-usa country.

From my research and from posts all around 2+2 getting a canadian bank account, address, bill proof are very doable but from what I've found obtaining a legitimate government issued requires residency.

I've looked into getting a legitimate Mexican driver's license for a non Mexican citizen and it seems doable , but comes with a lot more gray area.

Assuming stars/ftp don't come up with another way of getting US players to cashout there funds and the government ID is the gate between getting our funds back....a good business opportunity presents itself to someone that can produce Canadian,Mexican, etc ID's .

I am pretty sure the government ID can be your passport or US drivers licence.

Why wouldn't it be? The residence proof is the utility bill/bank statement. The ID is just ID.

I'm leaning heavily towards Queenstown, NZ at this point

While I don't know if they want a government ID from the country where you are claiming residency, it would seem apt. And I did post a few posts up how Ontario says that if you plan on staying 3 or more months, you will need a local driver's license. I don't see any other requirements besides that. Seems to me like you can simply walk in and get one, imo.

You're making me sad. I spent 5 good years of my childhood living in and vacationing in Queenstown. One of the best places on earth

Started this thread in business and investing and was told to move it here, so:

Hey guys. In light of recent events I suspect a fair amount of NL400+ grinders will eventually be forced to move to another country until online poker is legalized in the U.S. Me being one of said grinders, spawned an idea.

Over the last few months I have been making a fair effort to learn as much as I can about business/investing (mostly start-ups, basic economics, amd real estate). I've done this mainly in response to the great thread started by ArturiusX which discusses scenarios of when it might be right to move on from poker. Since I still love poker and have only recently focused on elevating my game (having good results) I was hoping to make this a slow transition.

Anyway, I am wondering if any other grinders, preferably 1000NL+ have any interest in forming a poker house (not sure where) with an emphasis on learning and practicing investing? This is just an idea, and I would encourage more experienced posters to give any criticism or advice.

FWIW:
I just turned 24
Degree in Philosophy
Still very green when it comes to business and investing

What do you know about getting a New Zealand bank account?

I spent last winter there, opened an account while I was still at the hostel. Moved into a place found here:
lwb.co.nz

It's ridiculously easy to move there. If you have any questions about night life, activities, neighborhoods, renting a room, internet just let me know. The more 2p2ers in queenstown the better.

I spent about 900 USD per month on rent for a furnished master bedroom with really nice bathroom (large tub with jets, great separate shower, heated towel rack). It was about a 25 minute walk from downtown, or a 7 dollar cab ride. This was the view from my bedroom balcony:

There's a one bedroom apartment available now just below that place for 850 usd per month.
