What if.....Joey decided to take some time off? For personal reasons?

Why would anyone think he owes anyone anything?

He did say he was taking time off, from memory it was going to be a couple/few days.

He doesn't owe anyone anything, I for one just got into his podcast recently, caught up on loads of old material since his absence so from that viewpoint all is good.

Correct.

I spoke to him several weeks ago. He was taking time away to recharge and evaluate his life. So many view people with a public following as if they have an obligation to do X Y and Z.

I think Joey was just trying to get his thought in order and figure out his life going forward. People forget the personality is an actual human, not suggesting you pr anyone in particular.

There was a recent Andrew Neeme vid, and Joey was playing at the same table so they had a chat, and Joey was saying he was taking a break from poker vids. They went into it in kind of detail, so if any one wants to hear directly from Joey himself what he is up to, go to that Neeme vid.

I love Joey's independent view on things, but the poker world has become very faceless, so I can see how hard it is to constantly find worthwhile interesting poker vid content these days, to a fairly limited audience no matter how good ones content is, so understand why he has stepped back from all that side of things. But his shows are something to be proud of, and really capture whatever is happening in the poker world.

Tbf it’s been a tough time for everyone in 2020, no time better to take a break and recharge

I am sure being part of a nuisance lawsuit didn’t help his vibes.

Being at the top of social media is an energy sucking. Very few last more than a few years.

Barry Greenstein tells Joey a story during an interview where he buys in for $500 instead of $2000 because the rake is 10% of buy-in. He seems to think this was a good idea, made even better since the people didn't play properly vs. shorties.

But is playing short to avoid 10% buy in rake, at a table where you have an advanatage, a good idea?

Joey is the only poker player who's been putting out free content for the last 7 years. He's the absolute last person anyone should be trolling. Imo he's been waaaaaayy too selfless. He's given hundreds of hours of his time to trying to help people in the poker community (Postle case, bad beat jackpots, pros getting banned from sites) and I bet when he's done, the people he helped probably aren't paying him for his time. He gets shunned by site operators, gets a lawsuit thrown his way, and he has clowns like this zinus guy questioning his motives. It's enough to make a person want to leave the poker community (and look around, everyone else has).

I hope Joey finds plenty of ways to monetize his work. His podcasts are legit one of my top 10 favorite shows to watch, and I doubt he makes minimum wage from them. He just loves poker, and we should all be very thankful that he is still here.

I am not against him monetizing. It is just the choice how to do it.

I listen to podcasters who take commercial breaks but I still listen to them because the rest of the 95% of podcast is interesting.

Agreed, and I'll add his reluctance to be sponsored is what allows him to say what he wants without an agenda. His old Pod's especially had some classic jokes (BGG) that you wouldn't get elsewhere.

Gotta think having thick skin is a prerequisite for what he does so hard to imagine a few trolls really setting him back. Obviously not speaking for Joey but seems like some of his burnout was a result of the general negativity of the poker world/where the industry is now, compared to where it once was.

I don't really care. You don't have to watch live and it's easy to skip if you watch later. You can also unfollow his socials and not watch. I'm certain he won't give a ****.

I don't think this applies to Joey that much, but it's definitely a thing in the poker world. I made a twitter account & followed all of the "big" names in poker, and my feed was like 90% advertising.
