Joffrey uses a crossbow as well. In fact he kills Ros with it, it's the first time he personally kills anyone.
07-24-2017 , 09:48 PM
Joffrey's crossbow is same that Tyrion uses.

ITT I learned I shouldn't try to remember things that happen in TV shows. I fail at it.

When evil maester lead Cersei downstairs I thought for sure he bred some demon dragon.

Nope. Just a big crossbow.
yeah, that was lol. And it's not like the dragon will be stationery 20 feet in front of you either.

I was thinking something like a wildfire based weapon to play off the fire from the dragons.

I'm almost sorry to tell you this bec it's going to be an AMAZING scene:

The scene was to remind us about Nymeria. She and her pack are going to be following Arya at a distance. Arya is going to get attacked and the wolves are going to come rushing in to save her. That's going to be something.

I think you can make the case that magic causes technology to stagnate. People aren't in the habit of finding technological solutions. Westeros has a 10k+ year history in what, for us, were the early middle ages.

Bad news for Arya then.

He was killing Euron's men pretty successfully when he didn't have time to think.

This:

Reads obviously like "no bookreaders" to people who already know the deal, but when I first saw it next to OOTV, I assumed it just meant "and not other TV shows". I was kind of surprised when there was only one thread when I went in there, and it said "no bookreaders" but I was like "yeah fine, they don't want spoilers, but the show is past the books now anyway and I'll just spoiler tag stuff like prophecies not in the show".

Like when there is a Game of Thrones subforum, why would I expect to find a thread discussing GoT that is not in that subforum? It makes no sense. I never go in OOTV because I watch virtually no TV.
This sub-forum had to be built after the GREAT SPOILERING event, during which the MAD POSTER spoiled the BIG SOMETHING. It has since been believed that magic prevents book readers from posting spoilers itf, but it seems the seal broke when the TV show leapt ahead of the book series in storyline.

Crossbows had existed for a while. Joffery's was a next gen crossbow that was easier to load as it didn't have a crank and instead came with a lever that required less effort to pull. After he died it was mounted on the wall in Tywins bedroom until Tyrion got it after killing Shae and then used it to kill Tywin.

The dragon killing machine seems like a larger version of the classic crossbow that would need 2 men to load up.

I thought the big crossbow was pretty cool. I guess im easy to please.

A bunch of those should be able to pretty easily kill a dragon.
07-25-2017 , 08:05 AM
Hitting a moving dragon with them might be hard because that thing didn't seem very mobile
07-25-2017 , 08:15 AM
Depends how they are utilized.

If they just create hundreds of them and wheel them around to various points around the city hoping to pick off dragons as they fly past then they will be less effective.

I got the feeling the way it was presented that the plan actually may be for them to just have the 1, and somehow lure Daenerys to a specific location with a dragon with the giant crossbow hidden out of sight. Then when it's within range ambushing them with it.

Origami dragons would be pretty easy to defeat.

That and they only shot a skull of a dragon. I expect this crossbow would only work realistically if it was a straight up impact, any angle that's far from a right angle I don't see that bolt being a good weapoon against a giant flying animal with giant scales for armor.

It's like they are gonna have to nerf what a reptile is just for that weapon to work properly unless it hits that animal somewhere close to an almost right angle. That and I expect there would be a ton of drop off in power the higher up you go altitudewise and any long shot would have no power behind it at all. LOL I'm probably just overthinking a fictional tv show. Hopefully it's not dumb as **** cuz it already looks kinda dumb.

I'm suprised there are no exploding tip arrows ala Rambo 3 with that firepower. That would be ****ing epic!!!

A twisting, flying dragon that is trying to roast you alive as you're trying to aim this giant, clunky crossbow at him? And he has two colleagues that breathe fire hot enough to melt stone? I'm going with the dragons on this one.

Was there any back story on Euron or did he just show up as some crazy skilled fighter (in show, not book)? Think the answer is no but seems to have come out of nowhere.

Only takes one hit. Idiot harpy dudes throwing tiny spears did some pretty heavy damage to Drogon.

He said that his exile was beneficial becauase it allowed him to become the greatest captain the the world. Other than that we don't really know much about him. There was also the story of him losing his mind at sea and cutting off everyone's tongue so they couldn't talk about it or somethimg along those lines when he was on the bridge with Baylon.

He showed up out of nowhere to throw Theon and Yara's dad off a rope bridge a while ago. Then won the vote to become the ruler of the Iron Islands over Yara.

It was talked about how he has been exiled and spent the years sailing around the world reaving and raping.

Then in the previous episode when he came to Kingslanding it's said how the reason he was exiled was because he started the rebellion that lead to the Iron Islands being soundly defeated.
07-25-2017 , 09:18 AM
It would be nice if the crossbow is intentionally dumb to highlight Cersei's delusion and Jaime calls her out on it next episode but that's unlikely.

Larry,

What's your plan for any potential bookreaders who still post in this thread?
