Thanks.

Also, if anyone is interested in having some dinners or pot lucks I love to cook and would love to do something like that and can host.
I prefer Trader Joes as most if the stuff is actually food. But the Waly world super centers have good value. I prefer gettin most of my meats frm Sams club bc the selection is good and can buy in bulk. I also like the cheese selection there.

Get together sounds great..i can also host + have a huge grille. Had about 75 over last year.

I always found the 1k sng satellites really soft. Especially as you get closer to actual main event, somehow i played 6 last year and cashed out like 42k counting last longers. Last longers are really a big thing about them, and most the time the 1ks have a 2-300 going with most the table, and a 500 going with a few guys...last year a guy sits down drunk and offers me heads up a 5k last longer, busts the 3rd hand with KJ aipf to AA and I get 5k. Of course I would think early in the series they might not be as soft. Usually i saw maybe 2-5 guys grinding them, but even the sng grinders there were pretty poor imo. Not the standard online sng guys, but live guys, but i also dont think that the live sng plays anything like a live one in terms of push fold. Last year I multi tabled them also, you can try to find out what table is going to be used, and often times I would stagger the 1ks with a 300-500ish one that was seated next to it that started at a different time as to not be less then 4 handed in both at the same time. They wont wait for you but I only had maybe 5 hands folded the whole time doing that, and only once my bb. The floor always let me do it without any complaints. I personally like the last longers because generally it can be used as a save to reduce variance...maybe not the most +EV way of doing it but when you play like 2-3 a day i think it is smart for general well being/mindset. Of course my results are super unrealistic, but i also got 1k plos going which i thought were waaaay easier.

*5 hands later on that mattered given the blind level, i wouldnt even bother sitting early on often

also, just to note, not saying I do it or not, but you dont get a tax receipt for the satelites even if you win it outright for 10k, however you get the buy in receipt. Thus, it is a straight tax write off if you want to be illegitimate (not that anyone would ever do that)

Thinking of going to the wsop for the 1st time, but don't want to spend too much. Just want a place to crash within walking distance of the Rio. I did a travelocity air/hotel search and the cheapest place near the Rio is the Gold Coast. Any input on whether this is a safe and decent place to stay? Thanks!

Gold coast is plenty safe. I don't think it is that bad of a room either...it has a bed rep for some reason, but for that price it is quite fair. Plenty safe, however i saw two cases of domestic abuse two years ago at the gold coast, and those were probably the only two times i have ever seen it at a casino. With that said, upstairs near the bowling alley can be a bit seedy late at night, but in terms of being worried for you're safety I would say you are safe.

and you are fine on the ipads for wsop. I always put it on the table, sort of lean it on the table and my lap same time. Normally during the day one of a tourney i can knock out a whole year of a tv series...pretty nice, and makes me play tight

FYI to all, according to xaston, BodogAri was blatantly stalling near the bubble of the o8 and playing it off like he wasn't stalling and that every decision was worth spending 2 minutes on (at least own up to it dude).

So if he's at your table in the near future Near the bubble be prepared to call the clock on him relentlessly. Berating optional.

Ari Engel Desperately Stalling to Make the Money

With 96 players left and 90 making the money, play has slowed down here in the $1500 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better. Ari Engel had a particularly short stack (about 20,000 starting the hand) and took advantage of every second he could get to try and prolong his tournament life (around 10 minutes for this one hand).

Preflop, Guillaume Rivet raised to 4,000 and Engel spent three minutes in the tank deciding on whether or not to call. A clock was called and one of the tournament supervisors made it clear to him that he wasn't going to get away with stalling every round of the hand. Ari then said half sarcastically half seriously, "I'm in a big hand for my tournament life, I need time to make a decision."

The flop came and Rivet bet. Engel, again, stalled for as long as he could and the clock was called again before Engel eventually called.

The turn was a and Rivet checked. But, you guessed it, Engel again stalled for as long as he could before the clock was called and he checked behind.

The river was a and Rivet checked again. Again, Engel stalled and the tournament supervisor almost immediately gave him the clock. Engel pleaded saying, "I'm down to my last 5,300, don't I get any courtesy time?" to which the tournament supervisor responded, "Maybe if the clock wasn't called on you every single move of this hand, but now, no."

Engel ended up betting on the river and was called by Rivet. The two ended up chopping the pot and soon after left for the dinner break.

During the ten minute hand, three players were eliminated and as it stands we are two away from the money.

what is funny about that is i remember many years ago reading an article (like 07) by ari talking about the correct bubble strategy is "attempting to bubble" by playing so crazy. however with that said, i think stalling on the bubble is pretty much the only correct way to play it when shortstacked. Also stalling for the button when blinds increase etc.

i dont mean deliberate 2 minute on easy decisions, but i generally take less then 2 seconds for every decision so i feel that taking 15-20 seconds for me is stalling, which i generally do.

Fairly sure i made the right decision given my situation, but im happy to listen to others opinions on the matter. Fwiw, Micon on dinner break gave me **** about it, and one player at the table kinda went off about it, but the rest of the table including xaston (who btw it was a pleasure to play with) didn't seem to mind/say much about it

I wasn't there... joined right as you busted.

I don't take issue with the stalling. I take issue with you telling the table you had difficult decisions, etc. That specific thing is ridiculous. Man up and say hi guys I'm stalling call the clock a bunch.

I was told you spent 2 minutes with a full house saying you had a legit decision, I mean... Wat

Thanks to theprodigalson for his input on Gold Coast! It looks like a good low-cost place to stay that's an easy walk to the Rio.
I'm checking airfare deals now w/ and w/out being packaged with the Gold Coast and there's some big differences in price. Kayak.com seem to be the place to start, rather that travelocity, which was where I went first. Less that $400 round-trip airfare from Sarasota to Vegas sounds good, but that's with a 9 night stay.
Any other info is appreciated. I'd like to eat cheaply, but healthfully, plus at least check out some of the other stuff Vegas has to offer. :-)

If you're playing at the Venetian or staying near there, there is a Walgreens that is less than a 3 minute walk from the V poker room. Last time I was there, Camels were ~$5.50 per pack. If you're playing a ton at the Rio, would stock up at a Walgreens (several more of them on the strip).

point of trivia. The US Constitution says it's illegal to impose taxes for any reason other than raising revenue so taxing in an attempt to change your behavior is unconstitutional.

Thanks Penn and Teller!
