Im not a hu player, but I kind of think its ridiculous how little play there is for such a big buyin. Literally half the field will pay $1250 in juice to play for 3 hours. Compare this to events that charge a similar juice, eg. 50k horse event in years past which is very deeply structured and takes a long time to complete. I almost think that for such a big buyin, there should be a losers bracket or something added.

Anyways, here are my thoughts on the structure. Okay, so obviously its a 8 round HU where there are 2 rounds per day. So each round has to finish in 5 or so hours. For a best 2/3 match that is actually pretty hard. I looked at the WSOP structure and they have it setup so the matches finish in 3 hours. Thats kind of lame but whatever. (The reason it is lame is because there is a clear precedent set by every other event, that events have about 10 hours of actual play per day.)

I think the addon system is right and the best way to keep some sort of 2/3 structure without slowing the game down, but I would make it so that people are forced to addon after a while. So something simple like after a while you have to use all your addon chips. This prevents people from buying in for 20bb and keeping the structure weak.

The structure I would use is:
starting stack 75k (25k * 3)
1hr levels
200/400
300/600, after this level you can only have 1 addon chip behind
400/800, after this level you must addon for full
600/1200
1500/3000
2500/5000 if any rounds arent finished by now

this gives the most play in the first 4 hours, and then the structure accelerates when any matches that arent done are forced to finish. 15bb and 20bb and 25bb hu poker are all roughly the same anyways so it makes no sense to speed through all the ~ 50bb deep levels that matter, and then to slow down at the < 25bb deep levels when the tournament is a gamblefest anyways. Instead they should do the opposite - wait until the very last minute to sacrifice the structure for the benefit of time.

For comparison, here is the official wsop structure:

200/300, 200/400, 300/600
400/800, 600/1200, 800/1600
1000/2000, 1200/2400, 1500/3000
2k/4k

notice how in this structure the blinds are so fast that a very reasonable comparison would be to equate the official structure to this one:
1hr levels
200/400
600/1200
1200/2400
2000/4000

because thats what this structure basically is in disguise. For a 25k event I kind of think that is disgusting, like imagine if this was a regular mtt highroller event and they published a structure like this.

I don't plan on playing poker during my trip save for some small stakes tournaments and cash just to goof around. There's a lot going on and I don't think I want to spend every night at concerts. If they aren't playing a lot of songs from TAYF I wouldn't want to be there anyway...

ok leaving for vegas and getting there early thursday morning. should be out there through mid-july

staying at gold coast (at least for now)

weird thread to ask, but not sure where is appropriate. trying to stay fit while in vegas. no gym facility at gold coast unfortunately, and the nearest pay-by-the-month gym seems to be a few miles away off tropicana (wont have a car). what are my options for trying to run? is vegas heat doable early enough? are there any mttc'ers that are making gym trips each morning before tournaments? i'd be down to arrange some sort of carpool/taxipool to the gym off tropicana. just really dont want to go by myself and dont want to get eaten alive by cab fares. im open to a lot of ideas so if anybody has one, or any tips for trying to stay fit, let me know

You can definitely run around at night. It's nice and warm but not hot, though kind of dry. Roads and sidewalks are wide, long and flat

I had a lot of opinions about the 25k HU that I voiced and they didn't listen to fwiw. There are a few events that are pretty impossible to change their minds about.

theres a gym at gold coast, unless they removed it since last year

very simple, couple of exercise bikes and some small weights. nothing hardcore. but good enough for me in the mornings!

to get there you walk to the TGIFridays and then out the door on the left next to the stand by the elevators. once outside its like 100 yards to the gym? in another building by the pool.
