I think blackjack events I've read about that take place for VIPs in Vegas work like this:
If you've got the button you're the dealer, and play against the rest of the table, when it gets to you to close the action you don't have to play casino strat (don't have to stand above 17 etc)
e.g. so if its you vs 3 others, one guys got a huge bet on and makes a 20, two other guys have 17s - you pull a 17 but can still choose to hit, because losing to the other guy will break you and winning will give you a huge advantage advancing to the next round. I think they're in a shootout format, everyone starting with the same chips.

pretty sure that would affect the whole format and strategy. Ultimately any games against other players and not the house should be okay so long as the rake does not kill it.

I have not seriously looked into black jack because i always considered it a house game.

UB used to have Blackjack tournaments. They even had a live Blackjack tour and there were some televised events. I don't remember all the details but there was some skill involved. I believe there were a limited number of hands, so you had to bet in relation to opponents to come out on time.

I think I read somewhere that Jacobson won a high stakes blackjack event when he was partying post main event victory.
