Hope this doesn't become a race to the bottom like in the MD casinos. About a year or so ago, the Horseshoe in Baltimore went to a 5+2 to feed promotions to compete against MD live. In turn, MD Live also went to an 5+2 to up the ante or their promos. I believe Horseshoe went back to a 5+1, but MD Live continues to drop 5+2 (people speculate it's to shore up money for promos when the new MGM opens up near DC). Long story short, if Sugarhouse's competitors view this as successful (same number/more tables running), they might follow suit.

If you take a look at Bravos during days/times when these 5+2 casinos DON'T run high-hands promos and the like, you'll notice lesser games running. Although could be other reasons for that since correlation is not causation.

Whew - 3 years to make a post. This topic must really piss you off big time!

I would be OK with the extra dollar drop if they would come out and say exactly how it was going to be used. With the hourly comp policy changing 3+ times in a year and comps just straight out disappearing recently, my trust in this place is near 0.

High hands and bad beat jackpots are soooooooooo ******ed. But dont worry guys, everyone is boycotting this poker room starting on the 13th until they charge $4+0. The word is getting spread to everyone. :-)

Nitpicking a bit, but Horseshoe was 6+1 and went to 5+2, then back to 6+1. The rest is all accurate. They waited just long enough for the change to start to have a positive impact (obviously 5+1 > 5+2 > 6+1), then switched back to the higher rake/lower promo drop.

But that's why I encouraged those ITT who plan to boycott SugarHouse to be as adamant about telling other rooms why they're there as they are about telling Sugar why they're leaving. You don't want everyone to start dropping the extra dollar to have promo wars.

While I understand this sentiment you have to understand that being upset about an extra dollar is not being nitty. If you play full time you can expect to pay $7,000+ a year into the lottery fund when they're dropping $2. It's not nitty to prefer to just have that extra $3500 in my pocket as opposed to funding promos of which I'm very unlikely to receive $3500 back from.

It's kinda nitty.

Just adjust your game to win more promo money. If high hands are the promo and you need both hole cards to play. Try to play lots of big pairs and big suited connectors, etc etc

Yup that makes sense. And I want the people who play full time and think about the cost of that extra dollar to go to other casinos, and I'll chill at Sugarhouse with the people who remain

i began an investigation friday night. i played 6.5 hours and won 8 pots of more than $30. I did not have a great night and think on a good night i will win more pots. i think $2 extra per hour played is probably about what i will lose.

honestly, i disagree with those who want to boycott. i am not in favor of the increase, but i do think my hourly there will remain at least $2 higher than it will be at harrah's.

also, more promos usually equals more fish. which will be good for the rest of us.

now, if i actually won a high hand, i might feel differently, but in 880 hours since mid-December, I have yet to win $1 from the high hands.

The problem isn't really how much you lose specifically, it's how much more is taken off the table in general. All your Vs lose a little here and there leaving less money in the poker economy in general. Granted, it's all redistributed, but we never know to who. It could go to the nit who never opens his stack or some terrible tourist who is leaving with it.

I'm 54 years old and was forced to stand in line to get carded when I walked in the casino Saturday night.

What a waste of time.

You probably don't realize casinos get fined massive amounts for allowing excluded gamblers to play right?

Anyone from 21 to 1001 can be on the excluded list and a lot of the casinos are starting to crack down with increased IDing and scanning as a result of the gaming commissions cracking down on them for not being vigilante enough in the past.

You being inconvenienced for a few minutes means nothing to them compared to the 5 and 6 digit fines they could be forced to pay.

Congrats on looking so youthful. Take it as a compliment and thank them when they ask for ID.

Of course I realize it. I have never seen another casino ID every single person who walks through the door.

If that was what happened, fine.

But they are checking every single person who walks through the door.

You could always choose not to play here if you feel the process is to intrusive
