I saw on their Facebook page some pics of dudes with $1500 racked up. Maybe its picked up there...cuz it used to be kinda dead.

I'm just curious - how is it trying to make a living professionally in the Detroit area? Seems like there wouldn't be too many tourists playing and hence, not too many fish. Just regulars, maybe?

Let me know what you think. I was actually thinking of going back there again now too just to see if they had more action. It's on my way home so would be nice if they had cash games going early.

I don't think there is enough high stakes action for big time pros in Detroit. OTOH, fish levels are not as high as say two years ago, but still there's lots of passive play. Just once in a while you get a total nit table, and there's no real money to be made. IME weekends are good all over town: downtown casinos and charity rooms. Again, mostly $1/$2 games and small tournaments. Maybe enough to live on but not enough to retire.

No problem.. Games don't normally get going till about 9ish.. but once its a lot of action.
They recently started .50-1.00 games as well, havent seen one run yet, but I guess they do run. in the 30-300, most people buy in for $40-140 so a max buy in normally has the whole table covered.

Like I mentioned LOTS OF EGOS and lots of money to be made. If you see a white dude in a Tiger hat gimme a sub bro.

High rake, long distances between rooms(casino v charity), rarely does a game run higher than 2/5, etc. Definitely not possible to make a living in detroit, imo.

You can play for a living if you have no family or responsibilities. I wouldnt imagine it is fufilling enough though. A meager 40-50k a year seems attainable. If you have to support a family forget about it though

Not sure what your basis is for this statement, but I know dozens in the area that have been doing exactly what you say is "definitely not possible" for several years, primarily in the Detroit area. Like the previous poster said, I believe $40-50,000/yr is attainable for good players , and elite players can make into 6 figures.

Ha! Yes aside from the fish, this is my second best thing I like about Johnny G's...man there is some nice tail walking around! Best part is, the restrooms are right by the poker area, so ALL the ladies have to walk by in their little club outfits. Nice!

As for the action, I'd agree with u as well. It has picked up, another guy got their pic taken last night for having a stack over $1000 at a cash table. I think that's 2 nights in a row.

40k a year a playing 10 hours a day, every weekend, degenerate hours, with a bunch of other people who are miserable. Not to mention no health insurance. What a life...
