Common misconception. Breaking even would be way above average!

First session started well but tailed off as my cards dried up.

Not sure about this one.

No reads on the villain. Called pre as wouldn't be calling off vs unknown UTG with QQ so not raising.

Flop I have an overpair on a J high paired board so called to keep Jx and Spade draws firing.

Turn is where I think I made the mistake. 8 helps some draws but all the hands I was targeting are still behind and the ones that already have me are still ahead. I thought about folding but in the end called hoping for no A,K or spade to get to showdown.

On that river readless vs shove I now have to fold I think.

Would you raise flop or turn? Or fold turn? Fold correct on river as played?

Are you saying you aren't willing to 3bet because you know you're folding to a 4bet shove? Sorry, just not sure exactly what you were saying there.

I would for sure 3bet in this spot vs an unknown, though. As played, I think post-flop you did everything fine, and your reasoning seems solid. At least to me.

Also curious what you would do differently on the turn? You said you think that's where you made the mistake, but then did a pretty good job explaining why you called?

Yeah thats exactly it. Vs any later position I probably would but vs unknown UTG I'm just callling.

I know why I did it but it felt uncomfortable and normally that means its a wrong call from me. Just wondering what others might do there I put this in the Micro forum as well and seems fine so maybe ok.

Crazy. I cleared a bonus as well tonight so BR up to $363. Still a BI above EV though so running well for me. I'm folding a lot to aggression on turn and river looking at my hands so far. Some big hands as well. Both of these I think may be bad but it was calling these sort of places that I couldn't name a good enough range I was ahead of that used to crush me so I think on balance I'm giving up some EV in order to avoid bad play, tilt and the resultant -EV trip to Zoom!

Good session but ran a bit card dead at the end which undid a lot of my good work. Most of the wins were from an AA vs AK AIPF.

Only really bad play I think was here. Turn should have been a fold but river was a clear fold. I just couldn't see past the small sizing.

Ran a bit poorly today in terms of cards and EV but hit some major donks. Up to $391 despite being 1.5 BI below EV from losing 70/30's.

Two poorly played hands I think.

This one I called the pot donk thinking could be TPNK, pair and draw or a bare draw wanting to take it down. The half pot on the turn supported this so called again. Checked behind then on the river as wouldn't have wanted to face a check raise and felt I had SDV.

Second session of the day was a mixed bag. Value owned myself against AA with QQ on low board and called 3 streets which was pretty poor I think. Only lost $6 but still was not great, should have folded on the river as nothing but KK+ and sets was bombing all three like that but it was BVB and I convinced myself it was FOS.

Then I ran into crazy donk who ran me over a bit until this happened:

Terrible session today. Another winner but I played my C game with spots of F game. I ran some donks over for stacks though which was nice and balanced out my horrible play so BR ended $414.

Worst of the lot.

Pre is fine. Flop is OK but I should have donked. I normally do multiway there as seems bluffier to people with overpairs than a check raise on that board and often can get stacks in as they play back at the donk.

Having done that I call the bet on the turn hoping to keep Tx in and maybe hit 2 pair and keep bluffs going. Having checked the flop a raise would end the hand I think.

River though is a stinker. Basically only a jammy TT or 98 has me beaten (though this line could well be them) and there are all kinds of two pairs and some worse sets that can call so I should be raising for value. Called like an idiot and lost huge chunk of value.

Second session was a nothing. Played pretty average the whole way. Quit when I realised I was tired and autopiloting. Easy to tell as when I have no cards and am autopiloting my redline goes appalling. Happy that I spotted it and made the quit before I lost too much.

I did get my FPPs up to the point to buy a $25 reward though so BR took another nice little spike. I'm off to watch a couple of films. Wolf of Wall Street and Dredd in case your wondering.

Wolf of Wall Street was OK. My friends wife told me to watch it. Said there was a few bewbs in it. Opening shot was a guy blowing coke up a hookers ass. Interesting perspective she has.

Dredd was cack IMO. I love comic book films but this was ludicrous even by those standards.

Had one short session today. Only hand of note was me getting beat by ultra passive fish. Love this lack of raise from the villain. Playing 100/0 over tiny sample but clearly not good.

Felt Iso was fine with A2s. Checked flop as he was calling everything here so not trying to bluff. His min donk I felt could be any pair let alone 2 pair, set or straight and he wasn't folding any of them so bet decent amount to get all those nice calls.

Bet out on the river as felt was miles ahead of his range. Flat call from the villain and I was already reaching out for the virtual chips. Wait wut?

I was repping 86o though. Maybe thats what stopped the raise. NH bro.

I was away for most of this week on a course so not much chance to have a game. Got a few hands in last night and now built roll to $462.

I'm playing pretty well I think. Still exploitably tight vs raises but I think thats OK at NL10. My mental game is in a good spot but then thats not hard when your generally winning overall.

Giraffe since the start of this little refocus and new thread.

Its missing a few hands I did on my phone to try that out (not going to be doing that again) and $35 of RB and points earnings. I started at $315 actually as well which is how I'm a bit further ahead.

I've decided that as its the weekend I'm going to treat myself to £50 shot at NL25 not from the BR. Just for funzies.

Basically £50 will be worth $83. I'll see how long I can spin that out playing my usual three tables. If I win, awesome but if I lose its no big deal I'll head back to NL10. I'm excited about the prospect but I'm not getting carried away as I know really I can't beat NL10 yet.

Its been a weird few thousand hands. I'm not hugely above or below EV which is nice give the run to BE I had before. You can see that on Page 1 if you're interested. I'm also not getting lucky with big hands. On the bell curve on PT4 if below in all areas. Not by much but its not that. Where I think I'm running hot is mid hands like TPMK and second pair type hands that I'm picking up pots with. I've also definately had more than my fair share of donk shoves into me when I have the nuts and AIPF with AA. When its all going rubbish they are 4.5bb winners after fold to 3 bet. Now its a 4bet shove and snap call.

I do think the controlled aggression style and more adjustment to opponents is reaping rewards. Because I bet a lot into passive fishes with middling hands and fold to almost all their raises other players think

A: I play weak hands (I do vs that fish but not vs you Mr 9/4. If I three bet you its not A6s)
B: I will fold to all their raises as well (I do vs a 86/0 fish but I'm not giving you that credit Mr Durrrfish running 37/35 with 25% raise flop bet)

Will be interesting to see how my mental game copes when they all start catching cards and some big setups go against me. I hope the solid wins so far and mental game work I'm doing now will pay off.

Some hands from yesterday:

Pre and flop are standard. Turn makes some 2 pairs and 6x is good but mostly it just makes all the trash Ax hands go into the lead. Check behind then and fold to what looks like value bet too me. Probably too nitty given odds to call vs single pair, PP hands.

PokerStars - $0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 4 players

Hero (BB): $10.00
CO: $10.00 (VPIP: 45.16, PFR: 29.03, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 31)
BTN: $11.86 (VPIP: 23.81, PFR: 16.67, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 42)
SB: $8.14

SB posts SB $0.05, Hero posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has K K

fold, fold, SB calls $0.05, Hero raises to $0.50, SB calls $0.40

Flop: ($1.00, 2 players) 3 5 2
SB checks, Hero bets $0.70, SB calls $0.70

Turn: ($2.40, 2 players) 4
SB checks, Hero checks

River: ($2.40, 2 players) 4
SB bets $1.00, fold

SB wins $2.29

This one is a car crash I think. I got over the top running this guy over. Flop bet felt small and he had folded to everything so far so thought I would raise. He had something so I think fold is easy. Big issue is the bet is pointless. If he has nothing I gain nothing and if he had something I have to chuck may hand away. In game I was thinking I need to protect this as almost no turn or river card I would like and his stacks were smaller enough that a call felt committing. Broke the golden rule as I'd not thought about what to do if he raises so should not have bet. I just assumed he would fold.

Winners tilt IMO.

Still laugh at that lack of raise though. Glad of it. Just don't get it.

I didn't read all the hands, but don't raise that flop with TT there...

Gl on the NL25 shot! Hope it goes well, and sounds nice to have a separate fund for it.

H1: hard to say exactly what I'd do against unknown opponent, but taking this line definitely makes you pretty exploitable if villain is a thinking opponent. You're going to get floated a ton on connecting/flushing boards, then villain will just steal every time you check turn. I think I'd barrel this turn and fold to raise. Probably checking behind river if he calls turn.

H2: yeah, nothing more needs to be said here I think.

NL25 shot didn't go so well. Played well I think if too passive for the limit as I try to feel my way in. Hit no cards except a set first hand of the day that I didn't get paid on. I ran things up nicely to be ahead but then ran KK into AA preflop all in for a buy in.
Handled it well and didn't react in any way which was pleasing but the cooler did hurt the BR somewhat.

Shot is still going as of right now with BR standing at $532.

Hoping for some run good next time I have a crack!

Another session on NL25 under my belt and while I'm still losing the rate has slowed and actually looking at my stats its not too bad I don't think.

I'm being a bit tighter pre at 19/16 vs 20/18 at NL10 which I think is OK. I've not be paid on my value hands at all yet. This may be because people think a bit more and notice when I do something unusual like a check raise on a drawy board and fold or may just be run bad. The only stat thats really different is WSD at 36% is really low for me as I'm pretty nitty and I'm not stacking off light or bluffing and getting priced in to call too much.

Must be a bit of run bad in there. My redline is also not a horror show at the minute as I'm playing ok post flop.

I'd rate progress so far as C-. Lost $30 so far at NL25 but I think really I've been a bit unlucky (KK<AA AIPF). Not awful or anything just a little bit added to shot taking slight slowdown.

Won some pots finally! Both vs donks. I got passive after I bet once and they took the bait. Tried again on the river and got checked through so missed value that a nice donk bet might have secured in hindsight.

I'm shattered now though so off to bed before I donk money off.

I appreciate the continuing faith. I am still expecting it to fall apart any time soon and make my title an aspiration again as it has been for a year where I've been playing breakeven EV poker with a huge cash loss.

I'll keep working and trying to develop my game and not be such a weak tight post flop as I feel like I fold way too much. Its probably not way too much in reality and thats better than being a stationy spewmonkey but I need to put some focus on my raising range and continuing vs raise ranges on flop and turn especially.
