It must be hard to master poker putting in those kind of hours at the table?
where do you find the time? (to study?)

my ave. session is @4 hours over the last couple of years, and I believe ive only booked one session longer than 8 in over a year. I could say i h8 playing poker, but it sounds too much like an excuse for laziness. There are just so many other things to do?

The general population here is at work on they're computers.

@Stampler the longer your sessions the easier it is to play live poker. If your average session is 4 hours during the week that's ok. But if your like most rec players you will be playing mostly on fridays and saturdays.

My 3 top keys to poker

1. Money

2. Skills

3. Confidence in your plan to succeed(what ever your goals are).

I play marathon sessions all the time (10+ hours)

I usually play 2 10 hour sessions per week.

Yes. There is that fear to some degree. This particular night there was some seriously obvious spots in the games that would have made it silly for me to leave.

I was picking up 50-100bbs versus one villain every time I flopped TPWK. I flopped two sets versus a more solid guy's TPTK and over pair.

Even without the whales, I think in live poker I have so much time in between each hand, and each action in each hand to gather my thoughts.

For instance, some times I'll catch my self think "**** it, I'm calling down", but then, because I caught myself, I have time to think about it and re-assess the situation. Also, after losing a big hand, I have plenty of time to concentrate on driving out the negative thoughts (iow, identify and removing B/C game thoughts.)

I bring 5 buy-ins with me.

yeah I have to drive an hour there/back so it isn't worth my time to play less than 5 hours. I force myself to play 4 when I go during the week and if the game sucks I get up and leave. If it is good I will play later.

On the weekends I marathon it up although if I get tired I just hit the road since I have an hour drive and don't want to fall asleep at the wheel.

I used to always bring 6 buyins but I have started bringing 4 to prevent me from donking away money.
05-29-2012 , 05:12 PM
Same here.

Based on my records, I'll do much better if I bring in a set amount.
05-29-2012 , 05:44 PM
I have a 10:00pm curfew (it's a fair curfew set by the wife for my poker outings, I probably need one), so if I play on a weekday after work I can usually manage to get in 6 hours (unless it takes me a while to get seated at the table). If I play on a weekend / holiday, I usually don't sit less than 8 hours and try to get in 10 hours.
05-29-2012 , 05:58 PM
I just go for how long I feel I'm planning good and the time spent there is worth it. If I'm passing on spots to be aggro, etc. I leave. If the table just isn't that good, I might leave.

I have a 25min drive the casino, but that casino only spreads 1/2. I'm think I'll start driving the 2 hrs to another casino some weekends this summer. I'm just not sure if I'll be able to handle the 2 hr drive home after a long session, or if it's worth it to get a cheap motel room some where and play for a couple sessions over the weekend.

My winrate drops pretty drastically for sessions over 8 hours long.

Just remember: look out for number one. It is a cold blooded game and if you ever get well heeled people will come out of the wood work.

I don't think I would have people coming out of the wood work. I'm not very liked. Remember I am iLikeCaliDonks. It takes a special person to put up with my bs, lol. You need heart and a translator sometimes lmao.

Idc what anyone says about Phil Hellmuth. He really is a great nl holdem tournament player. After taking a bad beat last night, he was sitting on 4k in the last level of the night average was 18k. He has over a 100k right now. Average is 80k or 40bbs.

Speaking of long sessions, I had a 20hour session from the Saturday 2pm to Sunday 10am, ended up winning Ł700. There was a freeroll in the casino which you qualify for so played that for a few hours then cash, cashed the mtt for Ł200 in like 6 hours, then 12hours cash.

Thought I'd post that since it was recent and everyone is talking about long sessions, ps have my final uni exam tomorrow and then summer of grinding, gl to me!

Sick tournament hand right now. Some dude opens in early position with 9 8 gets 3bet by AA, calls the 3bet oop, flops 2 pair on a 2 flush board check shoves over a cbet, AA couldn't fold, smh.

Weeeeeeee. Went on monkey tilt today.

I was stuck about tree fiddy last night when I posted.

I grew up swimming all the time. Summers in Virginia beach, I was either in a pool or the ocean. (yes, 2+2, I am at least part fish )

These days, I have a heart condition that can be set off by high impact aerobic exercise, so swimming is about all I can do.

And it is a pretty good work out. My usual routine is to swim for 1.75 hours, varying speed and stroke, and then to use the last 15 minutes to attempt the entrance qualification swim test for navy seal school--500 meters in 12:30.

I'm usually pretty whipped after 2 hours in the pool.

With my music playing in the background, it's not really boring at all. It IS irritating that my pool is only 12 meters long, so it is A LOT of laps, lol.
