Awww see I think the reason the show "looked" as good as it did in the first season was due to Darabont's direction. Just an opinion though as I really did enjoy most of the first season. Agree the characters got a bit cookie cutter right quick but those early episodes with Michael Rooker were pretty good! That's what hooked me in the first place. *sigh*

Schedule for S2 of #TheWalkingDead: 90m premiere 10/16, then 6 eps over 6 wks. Show takes break for Dec/Jan, resumes Feb 12 w/ 6 more eps.
I guess that means Mad Men won't come back until at least April.

WTF http://www.deadline.com/2011/09/amc-...-talking-dead/ i dont want to "troll," but i just cant get over how such an average show has such an amazing backing. it's like everyone banded together and said "we have to make this the biggest show ever, even if it sucks, ok?"

although, Nerdist getting more work is cool with me

Yea this is really the only place online that I've seen an overall realistic response to the show's quality.

"Nerd culture" or "geek culture" are a huge part of the problem. "ZOMG zombies, Firefly, Whedon, Penny Arcade, RPG storylines, Dinklage is the best actor ever, epic win!"

****ing a-holes.

As soon as someone makes a better TV show about zombies, I'm sure this one will be considered overhyped. When you have no competition, it's hard for people to judge quality.

That said, I'm watching every week because:

Spoiler:
Zombies mother****er!!!

This is also the only forum I know of that will nit-pick shows to death.

but there are 1000000000000 zombie movies that this show has done nothing to seperate itself from. who cares if it's a show and not a movie?

Dude, its not perfect, but some of us still really enjoy it.

It's really not that complicated, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

I think Zombies is still the last segment of film/TV making which hasnt had the perfect example made. Yeah, i know, some Romero fans are gonna try and eat my brain for saying it, but i think when nerds try and compare the best gangster films they will come up with reasons why Goodfellas is better than Godfather, yet when nerds compare zombie films they will say why 28 Days Later is worse than Night of the Living Dead.

I think it comes from the fact that we cant even work out if zombies should be fast or slow and if it should be realistic (ie a virus) or unrealistic (something to do with a satellite and radiation).

Shaun of the Dead is absolute brilliance - the greatest anything involving a zombie, it will never be topped. So help me God if you think Zombieland was better.

Right but that's a zom/com. What is your favorite or wait..re phrase. What serious take on zombies film(s) do you think are great or maybe you have none that you think are great? Just curious.

im not gonna pick the old Romeros just b/c they came first and im supposed to. i understand they got the ball rolling and everything. they all feel the same to me. i liked Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead a lot, I like 28 Days later, b/c that at least was somewhat fresh. I dont know, i just think it's the least creative genre, even worse than generic romantic comedies. Even the stuff coming out, like "Pride and Prejudice vs. Zombies or whatever will end up looking just like everyother zombie movie except victorian. WWZ will be every zombie movie with a little more artillery.

That's fair as it all boils down to opinion anyway. A lot of people feel that way about the zombie sub genre but then there's the opposite side who adore anything zombie. Have you seen the remake of Romero's Night of the Living Dead directed by Tom Savini? It is a very good remake but I admit it's older so probably not your style but still, at least he went for a difference from Romero's first outing. Savini changes up the characters enough to me to warrant this particular update.

Frank's hand prints were all over at least the first 3 or 4 episodes. I find it extraordinarily unlikely that he wasn't extremely involved with the directorial direction of the episodes...

I mean vision, style, and story progression. He is intimately involved in anything he works on, so to think that he directed and wrote the Pilot, and got out, without telling people exactly what his vision is, and what he expects, is extremely unlikely. He did not arm chair this series.

Nobody's arguing Darabont wasn't the showrunner. But if he wanted to direct more than one episode, he would have. The only good episodes were the first two, and he did one of them and Breaking Bad's Michelle MacLaren did the other one. The rest of them sucked for multiple reasons, and direction not by Darabont or MacLaren was one of them.

the first episode of this show was amazing. if you watch just that episode, you would think that this show had a chance at being one of the better shows of all time

What makes this show superior to pretty much every zombie movie made is that you care about the characters. The only zombie movie I can think of off the top of my head that you really cared about anyone in was 28 Days Later.

Now, it may be a function of the fact that it's a TV show and you have to develop the characters, and there were episodes that were deeper than others, but in general I think this holds true for TWD.

have to disagree, i found a lot of the characters irritating and apart from the main guy i was kinda willing for people to die. In particular there were certain scenes with those two girls who were sisters i think which were meant to provide some backstory or make you care for them and they failed miserably, so when they were going for the heart wreching moments it all just came off as melodramatic.

I also thought many characters were annoying and painfully thin considering how much 'camp time' there was. I only got through the first season on the memory of how well the show opened. TWD will be on a really short leash for me this season.
