Starts in two weeks. I just finished reading the book a week or two ago. I'm excited to watch it, I liked the adaptation of The Shining starring Wings. Obligatory link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Dome_(TV_series)

Been looking forward to this...just as long as they change that awful, awful ending.

Under the Dome might be alright but agree the conclusion of the book was awful.

The Shining remake with Webber was about as forgettable as they come. There have been a ton of television adaptations of King material and, other than The Stand, they've been pretty bad across the board. Although I haven't seen The Stand in 20 years so, while I remember liking it at the time, I have no clue how it would hold up if viewed today.

Should probably avoid posting stuff like this for people who haven't read the book that want to watch the show.

Thought the book was pretty decent. Most of Steven Kings horror adaptions are really bad, but his non-horror TV stuff has been really, really good. Green Mile, Shawshank.

So have some hope for this.

I thought the TV miniseries of The Shining was an excellent adaptation. I thought (at the time, don't know about now) that The Stand was an awful adaptation, and I'm a fan of Mick Garris. They lost me at the very beginning of The Stand (they screwed up the way they portrayed the outbreak happening with the sentry so bad that I couldn't get past it), I was confirmed mad.

Saw a commercial for this, picked up the book because it looked interesting. Only about 30% through so far, been a pretty decent read. Looking forward to the show.

Showing up on my kindle around 1300 I think, not sure how that translates to a real book.

I just looked on wikipedia, and apparently it's 1074 pages in hard cover. If it were shorter, I would have tried to read it before the show started, but there's no way I can finish that in time.

I read the book in 28 hours. That's tough in two weeks, but you don't have to read the whole book just to see episode one!

I liked the ending a lot! I'd like to know why you guys didn't, if you want to explain I guess use the spoiler tags. Although, there's a chance this series won't conclude at the end of its run based on what this article says.

Those movies (Shank, Mile, Mist) were all directed by Frank Darabont. I don't think he has anything to do with this. Those are the only King adaptations I've seen that I really loved (plus Kubrik's Shining). I've tuned out of quite a few early on.

Isn't Stand By Me a King book adaption?

Don't know anything about this show but was planning to check it out.

Yeah, I think it was a novella in Different Seasons, but I can't remember for sure.

King is a great writer, but a terrible producer and director. Anything where he's involved with that side generally has sucked historically. Most of his best adaptations from his books were just based on his novels, but he had little to do with them beyond a cameo or two.

The Dark Tower series could be an epic but he would need a really good person to take the helm.

I checked out the stand on netflix last fall and it was atrocious. Atrocious isn't a strong enough word. Since I had just finished the book which is among my all time favs I stuck w/it for the 90 minute part 1.

I'll probably check this out w/the bias that this will be terrible.

Did you have a problem with the virus being spread by a guy who was outside standing guard at like a guard gate? My whole vision of that guy was that he was at the front desk of something like out of The Andromeda Strain, and he decided to leave before the big door sealed them in. Him being outside made it seem that the facility wasn't even remotely secure from a virus leaking out...lol. I specifically remember having a big problem with that, and I don't think I even got very far before turning it off.

To this day, the first 300 pages of The Stand is probably my favorite section of any book I've ever read.

When I read the stand it was the unedited version and I didn't love it. It was like 1400 pages, just way too much. If I ever find the original I'd love to read that version.

From jump street everything was awful. I could find tons of stuff wrong w/the miniseries much less problems w/the virus being spread. I had visions of how the the nerdy guy who's name I can't remember should look like and they got parker fricking lewis to play the part, that was pretty much it for me lol.

King blowing the endings of his epic length novels is completely standard, and UTD lived up to its predecessors in every way. Film and TV adaptations of his work have been a lot more miss than hit, but I'll give this a shot and see where it goes.

I'd like to see an adaptation of 11/22/63.

Jim Rennie is a great character, and having Hank from Breaking Bad playing him is so damned spot on, that I am giddy.

This should be pretty good, and I am looking forward to it.

Moo you mentioned that the only King adapts were those done by Darabont, I assume this also includes the completely excellent The Mist?

i wish i had the willpower to just hit stop and delete on my dvr when this thing is about 90% over.

i don't even want to know whether he changes the ending or keeps it. i just want to enjoy the beginning and middle which will probably be great.

So this is pretty much as bad as the POS Netflix series Hemlock Grove??

One can only assume, given moo buckets track record, this is gonna be awful.

The only thing I will say from the promos I've seen so far is that it looks pretty low budget. It seems more in line with 90s production values. But, I'm hoping the typical incredibly misleading CBS promo is incredibly misleading.
