At the end of the episode, did that cop's pacemaker shoot out of his chest?

I give the maple st comparison a C+ at this point... if they start irrationally turning on each other that might change

It exploded.

The Maple St. comparison is literally just that someone else is out there pushing the buttons. That's as far as they've gone, so far. How can the townspeople not turn on each other as their predicament lengthens? We don't even know how many cows, food, etc. remain under the dome.

There's a huge difference between them fighting and them each actively scapegoating each other for causing the dome

You mean like the threat Hank made on the exploding pacemaker guy?

Seemed to be talk among those actually in the know rather than haphazardly random flung accusations

I think it's a different kind of "know" unrelated to the dome. However, the way that the misunderstanding could spread is pretty similar to Maple Street.

Watching the pilot now. Hated the opening 8 minutes (seriously, we know what the premise is, get on with it) but loved the shot of the cow getting split in two, even if it was only 'TV level' CGI.

Yeah, there were a couple of surprising shots in the show, and that was one of them. Anyone else notice the relatively lifeless sound mix inside the dome, and the live mix outside of it?

Still not quite finished with the boo.k, and the character names/changes kept screwing with my concentration. Plus, the only people that were cast like I imagined them to look were Barbie, Julia, and Benny.

Google also says the novel has a Jack Reacher reference but looks spoilerish. (I haven't read the book).
Just two minor references to Reacher, does not spoil any books in that series at all. I took it as a nod that King enjoys those books.

Anyway, I'll enjoy the show I'm sure, and will not post any speculation even though it appears that it'll be very different. Do not want this thread to turn into a GoT aidsfest.

Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Ted Sarandos had this to say about the possibilities. "I spoke to Ron about ['The Dark Tower'], actually. The last time we talked about it the thing was being kicked about HBO – but it’s no longer there. Once 'Arrested Development' gets through we’ll keep talking about it.”.

While Netflix has expressed initial interest, it should be noted that HBO is no longer attached to the television property.

It is unknown if Media Rights Capital, the producers of TED, are still interested in the film property.

We'll continue to keep an eye on the production. If anything official happens, we'll confirm it in our standard news."

So it appears HBO is now out completely
This is a little surprising. You'd think the enormous pop culture impact GOT has had for HBO would have them very interested in going after TDT. The idea I had heard (not mentioned ITT I don't think) was they would do 2 or 3 seasons of TV, with 2 or 3 theatrical movie releases in between the seasons. This seems like something that would draw a ton of interest (and subscriptions) if HBO was where you had to go to get the story in between the films.

I'm pretty sure The Dark Tower has been kicking around Hollywood since I was in college, or shortly after I graduated (1994). I don't remember much about it, but the term development hell describes basically what it's been in. The general idea, from my understanding, was that it was expected that it would never get made. So, until it goes into production, don't get your hopes up too high.

Not sure yet what to do with this show. It could become interesting or be the most boring thing ever.

I guess we'll know after 2 or 3 more episodes.

Right, this was the original idea (and sounded fantastic) but HBO punted on it. Not many details have emerged for the hows and whys since then, only that RH may still be interested in tackling it when finished with Arrested

The "I get my news from the internet like everyone else." scene with the local yokel was pretty good.

Im in this boat. Missed the premiere last week so watched the first two eps back to back. It was decent, has potential, but there is a bunch of bad going on inc the cliche outsider gets trapped in the town and becomes the show hero, show hero has a love interest but it is obviously flawed and doomed to be terrible from the outset, love interest's husband is killed by show hero but he cheated on her giving enough wiggle room for will they wont they (and do we care), the psycho boyfriend of the girl who we learn is the son of the councilman has uninteresting written all over it, the conspiracy to save the town that coincidentally involves stockpiling energy which they will need that the reporter is told about just before the dome is created, minor hero kid has no parents around and the seizure prophetic talking stuff has terrible written all over it which will draw him and the lesbian daughter character together.

Two episodes in and it kinda makes me want to watch Jericho instead of the next ep. I will likely keep watching if it keeps to this sort of level of quality, but it has so much potential to fail and not much upside shown so far.

Liked the pilot but thought this 2nd episode was pretty bad/cheesy. Lots of awful dialogue and bad acting.

I dont get it why everyone in every post-apocalyptic TV-show has go lose all their senses and get an enormous deathwish. Do people actually like to watch that?

I like the concept. It has potential, but the little town drama side plots will probably be it's downfall. The psycho boyfriend is the worst of them, but the town conspiracy is weak as well. They should just focus on the dome itself and how people cope with no supplies, no contact, etc.
