Nowadays, most lawyers are brainwashed idiots and not critical thinkers. Show would be better with less lawyers

Katarah is overrated. It was a fluke that she lasted this long

she made the biggest mistake of the season

Who overrated katurah? I haven't seen anyone say she played a good or even average game.

You don't need to be good to last long. In fact perhaps the opposite.

Katurah probably not overrated on those fronts. Regardless, if someone decides to gift her own money to someone, I'm sure she feels justified in using whatever criteria suits her.

Sandra was terrible in her first season but somehow managed to win thanks to Lil making one of the top five boneheaded moves in Survivor history.

I suspect it is unavoidable when a show lasts as long as this one, but I feel like it's just become too meta. The contestants all seem so excited just to be there (ooh look at the idol! Look at the cool tribal council set! I can't believe I'm standing here talking to Jeff!). No one seems all that upset whether they win or lose, it's all just a fun adventure getting on their favorite TV show.

I'm torn because I like the recent casts... they seem to be casting generally likeable people. But it just feels less real for whatever reason, there's zero cutthroat about it, it's all fun, no sense that they are fighting tooth and nail for a million bucks. No villains either. They can never have another heroes vs villains season.

Because a million bucks ain't crap anymore. Tooth, nails and daggers would come out again if they up the prize pool to $3m or whatever the equivalent purchasing power to 1m in 2000 was.

Ok not quite 3m

The best commentary on this is in the link I posted above. Dalton Ross has been reviewing Survivor since the beginning, and though he calls s45 as the best of the new 26 week seasons, he has it ranked as #20 overall.

I like them all on an induvidual level. The only person out of the 72 new era castaways I've disliked really is Shan. Even the two quitters didnt bother me too much

My problem is like you say grouping too many of the same archetypes together. ie over 15 white collar nerdy superfans just delighted to be there.

For example all of my favourite seasons I listed recently have so much personality and background diversity in their casts;

Borneo - Hatch, Rudy, Greg, Sue, Gervase, Colleen
Amazon - Rob, Heidi, Roger, Crazy Matt, Christy
Pearl Islands - Sandra, Rupert, Fairplay. Savage, Lil
China - Todd, Courtney, James, JRB, Crazy Dave, Denise
Gabon - Randy, Sugar, Kenny, Crystal Cox, GC, Corine
HvV - those mentioned above plus Coach, Russell, Jerri, JT, Parvati
Cagayan - Tony, Woo, Chaos Kass, Spencer, Morgan
DvG - Christian, Mike White, Angelina, Natalie Cole, Alec

A solid chunk of the people above simply wouldn't get cast on a new era season

I don't think it's controversial that casting considerations have changed.

She was married to a man previously I don't remember if he was ever on Survivor.

They both want to get back on the show and it's a requirement.
