Torchwood 1 and 2 are sorta separate to 3 and 4. There is some backstory you will miss a bit of, but there is a creative shift and three was written to be a standalone special for a new audience. Theoretically you can't even get the full background without watching doctor who as captain jack was introduced in it, but yeah starting at 3 is fine.

children of earth (3) is the superior season, but miracle day (4) is alright and its been improving a its continued with the last ep being the strongest imo.

I thought tonight's Alphas was their worst episode of the season.

Anyone watching the new season of Ugly Americans? Caught the last two episodes, and they were both really good. Saw most of season 1, and it seems like the show is finally gelling and becoming real consistent. Loved the episode with the Justin Beiber parody (the opening scene where Grimes comes on stage and starts beating down "Dustin" is too good). The episode before, where there is a clone of Mark running around was awesome as well.

For sure. Love the Koala guy the most though.

As a side note, I've noticed that on IMDB and a few other places, that people say this is a crappy version of Superjail!, mainly because they both use the same animation company. I'm sorry, but Superjail! is not that funny (at least from what I've seen. Seems like just a bunch of random, over the top violence). Ugly Americans has great writing (David Stern, the creator, used to work on the Simpsons when it was funny), great character development and good storylines. Just think the premise of the show is hard for some to get used to (was for me), but the characters grow on you. Leonard the wizard is my favorite, though Mark's zombie roommate Randall is pretty boss as well.

Yeah, he's my favorite. UA's version of Jerry from parks and rec, always getting dumped on. You can't go wrong with a Maggotbone or a Boneraper either.

Re: Alphas

They really need to find the right balance with Gary. This last episode had too much Gary and too much Gary can be grating. He's really funny and well acted but he can't be a primary focus like he was this week, imo.

I thought it was a pretty good episode for the show and didnt feel like they overused Gary. The show aint that great though and i doubt it gets renewed. Right now i mostly only watch it cos its on a slow day and even then i dont rush to watch it at all.

Any news on Jon Benjamin Has a Van being cancelled or renewed? Thought I read somewhere it got cancelled after 3 ep. but CC ran the rest of the season anyway. It got much much better starting in the Little Little Italy episode, hopefully it's renewed.

It's finale scored a .3 in the 18-49 demo. Norm Macdonald's finale scored a .5 and was cancelled.

Eesh, not good. They have to be paying HJB less than they were Norm, though, right? That and you'd think CC would have lower expectations for a summer show.

There's some good discussion on CC's business model in the Norm thread. Basically it's a hit or one and done and replace with south park reruns.
It's frustrating but I guess it makes sense.

So I'm giving Leverage another shot.

I've tried to get into it before but just didn't find it all that interesting. Maybe it had something to do with not liking the 1st couple episodes and carrying that attitude into the next couple that I watched.

So far I've watched the last few episodes and I'm kinda starting to like it. Maybe I need to go back to the beginning of the series and start from there until I get caught up.

I think it's great up to the latest season and a bit of the season before. Now I have no idea what the hell is going on. The cases go by and then they're done and I don't know what happened. Plus Parker isn't weird and thats a large part of why I liked it. Hardison is annoying as hell now. Him and Eliot's interactions are still pretty good though. It's completely lost it's charm and I don't think it can get it back.

Decent enough ep recently & I dont mind Gary.

I do wish they would get to building some mythology though.

Also,
Spoiler:
next week GLAU!!!

Lol, id take that out of spoilers to increase the number of viewers.

As for Leverage, it lost its charm a couple seasons back. Perhaps it passed its shelf life or something. I think now and again it shows flashes of brilliance in a really cheesy way that i stick with it, but i dont rush to watch the show at all.

Right now it makes FARRRRRR too much use of the "show you half of a scene, then at the end flash back to the scene to show the other half where they turn the ending on its head". I hate it when shows do it a lot (Hustle was the same way) cos the show treats it like a huge mind blowing event yet when it happens every ****ing week and cos it happens so often its often easy to work out where the switch is. Its a show made by dumb people who think they are smart imo.

Covert Affairs has been hitting its stride as a B-show lately. The long take in the episode with Chinese dissident was great and they thread some small things though several episodes which is rewarding. Not White Collar quality but I look foward to the episodes more.

Merging the personal and professional life with her reading in CTB was a great decision for the show. Looking forward to its return tbh. Its not amazing, but its enjoyable, its a bit like a bowl of vanilla icecream, its no choc chip, but its better than nothing on a warm day.

I'm not finding a Justified thread, so I'll put this here. I came to it late, on dvd, about halfway through season 1 so far. I think it's really good. US Marshall gets assigned to eastern Kentucky, where he's from. Avoids a lot of easy rural stereotypes. Pretty smart dialogue, some action but also some humor. The main guy actor is really good, has a presence.

Reminds me a little of a countrified Shield, factoring in the slower pace of rural life. Also has Shane from The Shield.

Amen to this, watched it on Netflix. Just as smart and funny as Community or Parks and Recs imo. Too bad there aren't more episodes.
