watching movies in 10 minute increments reminds me of the days of 8-track tapes. the tape would pause while switching to the next track with no regard for the song playing, often times right in the middle of it.

Premise:-

Godfather of Harlem tells the "true story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson, who in the early 1960s returned from ten years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control. During the brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X – catching Malcolm’s political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart."

Cast and characters

Forest Whitaker as Bumpy Johnson
Vincent D'Onofrio as Vincent Gigante
Ilfenesh Hadera as Mayme Johnson
Antoinette Crowe-Legacy as Elise
Nigél Thatch as Malcolm X
Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Teddy Greene
Lucy Fry as Stella
Paul Sorvino as Frank Costello
Giancarlo Esposito as Adam Clayton Powell Jr.
Rafi Gavron as Ernie Nunzi
Kathrine Narducci as Olympia Gigante

I just finished Godfather of Harlem, season 1.

"decent, not great" is the right review.

The show suffers from Bumpy Johnson constantly interacting with historical figures like Malcolm X, Congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr, mafia bosses Vincent Gigante and Joseph Banano, and even Cassius Clay for an episode.

He certainly knew Malcolm X for decades. But, I don't think there are any stories of him working with Congressman Powell. And, the constant meetings with bosses of two of the Five Families seems very unlikely.

They also have Johnson acting in ways that nearly changed history dramatically.

Spoiler:
Nearly assassinating Joseph Valachi, saving Congresman Powell from assassination, and saving Cassius Clay from blackmail

Those things didn't happen.

The show is trying to make Bumpy Johnson a bigger historical figure than he was.

But, I would have been much more interested in how he actually ran Harlem. We barely know anything about Bumpy's Harlem associates- the black men who ran his criminal business. Any screentime they could have got gets sucked up by the historical figures.

reads more like Bumpy Gump than Bumpy Johnson.

lol jack ryan gunfight of last episode of season 2

Spoiler:
ok so they fly a ****ing helicopter up the white house of venezuela. jack ryan and 4 other guys with assault rifles and bullet proof vests(no helmets) jump out of the helicopter and ****ing storm the ****ing white house! lol! they shoot/kill 48 guys(i counted) and none of their guys die. one guy gets shot and very minorly hurt. the venezuelan guards might as well have been 2 year old toddlers. then they just casually get back in the helicopter and fly off. i guess there is no anti air or air force of any kind in venezuela

this show is beyond fake. and of course all the cia propaganda

I've been enjoying Designated Survivor. Good popcorn tv imo.

There was too much mental disconnect for me to even give designated survivor a real chance.

The whole situation just screamed 24...but keifer's character is no Jack Bauer, so it was very confusing, waiting for him to take on the bauer role, but then not being that at all.

made it weird. downside of being so well recognized for a role, hard to see him as something else, especially within the same sort of genre.

Speaking of, anybody watch Brockmire? Amanda Peet so good as off-the-rails Jules.

I think I missed the start of this season,. I first rediscovered when Jules had the incident with her on-field entertainment at the Phillies game.

I never got into 24 so that wasn't an issue for me.

I agree, lots of ridiculousness but Kiefer pwns and the ride is fun imo.

Since I have Hulu now, I wanted to re-watch the 1st 2 season before the season 3 premiere Sunday since I have only seen everything 1 time thru. Watched Season 1 yesterday and I like it possibly even more on the re-watch.

Operation Odessa was batshit insane!

There have never been balls as big as those on Tarzan, Juan, and Tony.

This needed to be, like, ten episodes long, not just one movie
