my guess is that at the time it was on it was much better. tv was a lot worse back then. the shows on now are incredibly good compared to what was on just 10 years ago...

honourable woman
the knick
masters of sex
rectify

to name a few and those are just shows that are on RIGHT NOW, all of them way better than the sopranos.

he's definitely overrating the honourable woman, it doesn't even have accent cred going for it because lol maggie gyllenhal

the first season of rectify was better than the first season of the sopranos though.

i could be recency biased, especially with the knick. it only has two episodes. but dam it's good! that first operation scene in the knick is amazing. the knick doesn't have a lot of great characters or great actors so far. but i loved the first two episodes about as much as i've loved any show.

i think deadwood and rome are my two favorite shows, and i'd put first season of rectify close to them, though it's a very different show. based on first two episode the knick is close too, and honourable woman. masters of sex is great, but not close to rome/deadwood imo

i just happen to have a relatively low opinion of the sopranos. i understand i'm in the minority. i don't like seinfeld either, or big boobs. i have unusual taste.

I thought the Sopranos was amazing for the first 3 seasons and then IIRC S4 took a dump, it improved the following seasons but it was always a little off.

The few songs that have happened in the first 3 episodes were all pretty cringe worthy imo, and useless wrt the plot.
I'm really enjoying Garfunkle and Oates.. been a fan of theirs for a few years now.

On a similar note, I haven't seen anyone mention The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail... a stand up show on CC. Really enjoying that as well.

This is how I feel.. outside of Tony (who is great), I feel like most of the characters aren't that interesting. I really enjoyed seasons 1 and 2 and blew through them in just a few days. I liked season 3 well enough, but it took me awhile to get through it. Now I'm like 4 episodes into season 4 and it's taken me about a month to get this far. I just don't have the "omg I must keep watching" feeling like I've had with other great shows.

Finished that off. Exquisitely well made and also morally reprehensible. Thanks, BBC!

Pretty standard procedural cop show. It's got a few storyline arcs, although they are almost always handled quickly. They've had a couple of stories that stretch a season or two (including one that comes and goes since like season 2 I think). It has some endearing characters, but I think it's best as just an "I'm going to throw this on in the background" type of show.

Hey, RBK. You should also post that in the actual "You're the Worst" thread too

well I hadn't trashed the show in that thread (I don't think) so wanted to post it here due to that.

I posted in the lounge thread as well since I think I voiced my displeasure with the pilot there as well.

Out of those shows only Masters of Sex is really solid. I can't stand shows that constantly push their political views down the viewers throats.

Anyone going to give Intruders a look on BBCA tonight? Looks interesting and worth a look.

I'm starting the British show Happy Valley on Netflix today, supposed to be good. Kinda like The Fall I hear.

4 episodes in and Bojack Horseman is as average as you think it is. Not sure why Netflix chose this to be their breakin to adult animation.

I love the cast, but was a bit disappointed. Really hate it when Paul F. Tompkins isn't used well.

right, his character isn't even remotely funny. none of them really are. Aaron Paul also kinda sucks at voiceover, which i didn't think was really possible.

First episode was very good, not nearly as dark as The Fall though.
