I think the show is still doing a pretty good job with westeros. Essos they're struggling with but occasionally the dragons show up which makes for great scenes.

Greyworm line was an F. If anything he could say he doesn't fear death but fears letting dany down after she saved all of his people but nope he fears not seeing his crush again.

Jorah getting greyscale is interesting. How situation really isn't comparable at all to connington. What does he have to do before he dies now? Deliver tyrion? Doesn't seem to make sense on the surface but clearly they felt somebody needed to get the greyscale for some purpose. Will be interesting to see what happens there.

Current it appears the show is kind of struggling with characters having logical motivations. Littlefingers Sansa plan, greyworm is devoted to a crush not dany, etc. If i hadn't read the books I would be very confused as to why dany is marrying a dude she nearly killed. Some stuff like roose letting Ramsey make an ass of himself at dinner didn't make sense to me.

That being said I thought the tormond and snow / hardhome storyline did make sense and worked well.

Was mostly entertained just a few cringe worthy scenes.. Still looking forward to see what they do especially as they separate more from the source material.

At this point I have very little concern for being spoiled because of how many differences there are and I fully expect future books just to be so much stronger and deeper than the shows haphazard way of working the story towards the end.

I think of you go by who is alive right now. It has to be Brienne of Tarth. She has defeated Loras, Jaime, and the Hound. That's quite a record. Her Valyrian sword also gives her an edge over most swordsmen.

Greatest of characters in the books, at their Prime. In 1 vs. 1 combat.

1. Ser Arthur Dayne
2. Brienne of Tarth
3. Hotah
4. Robert Baratheon
5. Ned Stark
6. Baristan the Bold
7. The Viper
8. The Mountain.
9. Jaime Lannister
10. Bronn.
11. Daario.
12. Ser Jorah Mormant.
Rhaegar? Syrio?

Holy hell this show is terrible.

I still like nights watch/stannis/Bolton stuff though. Simpler narrative and conflicts.

I def have Jaime > Eddard 1v1 and I think GRRM has made it pretty clear.

GRRM really likes to pimp the unconventional fighters. Robert, Reed, Oberyn, Syrio. Hard to say where they rank. Although i think i remember him saying Robert wasn't elite till the Trident

Lol seriously bad list

Yeah throughout Ned's brief story I always got the impression he was 2nd or maybe even 3rd tier.

Also on the show it seems like Bronn is the best that has been shown. He killed the best knight in the Vale, fought the mountain men, fought against Robb's suicide force, was going to fight the hound, was going to fight two kingsguard in armor (at least shows he thinks he's damn good) and most recently killed 3 armored Dornishmen on horses after taking the fourth off of his horse so Jaime stood a chance. Seems like he's been seriously upgraded on the show.

Felt that they are rushing plots that shouldn't be rushed and dragging out those which should be sped through. Everything on Esso is just really jarring. Dany proposing the marriage was out of nowhere for any non-book reader. And even as a book reader it still made no sense since there was no mention of possible peace if there was a marriage until 10 seconds before she said it. Jorah getting grayscale is interesting but is clearly a death sentence for him. I feel that Jorah and Tyrion are behind schedule so I guess the slavery/secondsons part (if included) will be rushed. Jorah getting grayscale has made me question the slavery part only because who would want a slave with grayscale and not check for those things? Still don't know how I feel about Barriston dying, but I'll wait to see how the fit everything in the future before making my judgement.

I really like it. the books are the books and the show is the show...I'm jazzed about the departures from the books...makes it more interesting.

Loved the Winterfell scenes this episode. The Boltons are just so awesomely creepy.

Is it possible that all the theories saying Dany and Jon will untie the Seven Kingdoms are wrong? The show seems to be setting up Sansa being the major player...maybe she and Jon hook up. Dany goes nuts and attacks with dragons...but then the dragon fire destroys the White Walkers...or something.

Okay, I wrote the list at work so it was a little rushed. I tweaked it a little and added my reasoning.

1 vs. 1 - Fighters in their prime, list of characters mentioned in the books and the show.

1.) Ser Arthur Dayne aka "the Sword of Morning"

Defeated the Smiling Knight. Defeated Rhaegar in tournament. Was one of 3 kingsguard who defended the tower of joy against Ned Stark and 6 others almost defeating them. Has a legendary sword called Dawn.

Quote:
They whispered of Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, deadliest of the seven knights of Aerys's Kingsguard, and of how their young lord had slain him in single combat.
- Catelyn Stark

Quote:
The finest knight I ever saw was Ser Arthur Dayne, who fought with a blade called Dawn, forged from the heart of a fallen star. They called him the Sword of the Morning, and he would have killed me but for Howland Reed.
- Eddard Stark

Quote:
I learned from the White Bull and Barristan the Bold. I learned from Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, who could have slain all five of you with his left hand while he was taking a piss with the right.
- Jaime Lanister

2.) Barristan Selmy aka "Barrristan the Bold"

Unhorsed Ser Duncan the Tall at the age of 16. Slew Maelys the Monstrous. Rescued King Aerys single handedly when he was kept hostage slaying Ser Hymon Hollard in the process. Unhorsed the Hound in a tournament at the age of 57.

3) Brienne of Tarth

Slayed The Hound, defeated Ser Loras in tournament, and defeated Jaime Lanister in single combat. Delivered Jaime Lanister back to King's landing from behind enemy lines. Has a Valyrian sword named Oathkeeper.

4.) Oberyn Martell Aka "The Viper"

Had arguably defeated Gregor Clagane aka "The Mountain" in single combat. Known for his fierceness in battle, his intelligence, and knowledge of poison. Main weapon a spear.

Quote:
He knew the man only by reputation...but the reputation is fearsome...His tourneys, his battles, his duels, his horses, his carnality.
- Tyrion Lannister

5.) Gregor Clegane aka "The Mountain"

A walking tank. Destroys everything in his path. Able to cut off the head of a horse in a single blow.

6) Jaime Lannister aka "Kingslayer"

Saved Lord Crakehall from Big Belly Ben and crossed swords with the psychotic Smiling Knight. He was taught and knighted on the battlefield by Ser Arthur Dayne. Defeated and wound an in out of hi prime Ned Stark in the streets of King's Landing.

7.) Ned Stark

One of two survivors in the fight of the Tower of Joy against 3 Kingsguard including Ser Arthur Dayne. Led the battle of the Trident after Robert was wounded against Rhaegar. Wields a giant Valyrian sword named "Ice"

8.) Robert Baratheon

Killed Marq Grafton. Defeated Prince Rhaegar in the battle of Trident. Lost in tournament to Ser Barristan. Wields a Warhammer in battle.

9.) Area Hotah

Slays Ser Arys Oakheart of the Kingsguard in about two moves. Is a one man special forces unit used by Doran Martell to do his bidding. At the mere sight of him Darkstar runs away. Has a big ass axe. Sand snakes and others know they'd have no chance against him.

10.) Rhaegar Targaryen

Jousted and defeated Ser Arthur Dayne aka "Sword of Morning" in joust. Reknowned fighter. Lost to Robert Baratheon.

11.) Ser Bronn of the Blackwater.

An upjumped sellsword. Defeats Ser Vardis Egen, captain of the guards in the Eeyrie. Veteran of several battles. Guard of the Hand to the King Tyrion Lannister. Has a deadly long distance move with a throwing knife. Is known to kill multiple foes with ease.

12.) Sandor Clegane aka "The Hound"

13.) Khal Drogo

Fierce and skilled fighter. Never lost a challenge as Khal. Does not wear armor however.

12.) Daario

13.) Stannis Baratheon

14.) Greyworm

15.) Ser Jorah.

16.) Syrio

17.) Jon Snow aka Lord Snow

I'm sure there are many knights in the canon of A Song of Fire and Ice that could defeat the ones on this list but we really aren't given any information about them. Ser Duncan the tall comes to mind. And unfortunately most of these fighters are never in their prime at the same time and we really don't have much to go on. We only have a couple of meetings between some on the list to really compare them and they have very different fighting styles.

Jon Snow is strictly worse than Qhorin Halfhand, Mance Rayder and probably a bunch of other people

Ya def interesting to me that greyscale HAS to matter, with how much they have played it up. Seems like something that easily would have been cut or played down since connington isnt even in the show.

Also seems like the reason that sansa wound up in Winterfell is to cross paths w/ Theon so he can tell her that her bros are alive/he didnt kill them. Only reason for this whole kennels daughter character to exist is to randomly make them cross paths.

Yeah seriously. Wtf, Brienne?

Because she defeated Jaime when he was almost dead after being a hostage for ages?

Brienne would never beat Barristan, Robert, Jaime, etc. Actually, from that entire list I can only see her having a chance vs. Jon and Jorah.

Also LOLWesterosiDonkaments
