there is no way that ned comes close to Jaime in the books

Jaime has like a few people alive who are better than him max

The opening one too he states Jaime is one of the great swordsman in the history of westeros. Also my reading just from the books, even before hearing GRRM saying it.

Cool link, thanks.

He doesn't actually say Howland was a better fighter. I'm pretty sure the quote CrunchyBlack was referring to is this:

"The finest knight I ever saw was Ser Arthur Dayne, who fought with a blade called Dawn, forged from the heart of a fallen star. They called him the Sword of the Morning, and he would have killed me but for Howland Reed."

Seems like she's gotta turn heel at some point. GRRM has said more than once the series end will be "melancholy," so this is a real possibility IMO.

Thanks, Daenerys.

I think he's right that Eddard's skill got moved up a lot for the tv show. My impression was that Jaime would have just stomped him in the books. Also might have influenced my viewing of the Ned vs Jaime scene where I thought Jaime was winning hands down.

Either way, this conversation is one of my favorites even if it does come up every season.

You guys forget that when fighting Jaime, Brienne was at a disadvantage in that she could not kill Jaime. No doubt Jaime is not at his peak but if she makes a big mistake, he's still more than capable of taking advantage and killing her. Not sure how much Jaime really wanted to kill her at the time but I think that's a big factor to consider.

And I also agree that some fighters who might be higher in my rankings may lose to some below them due to their fighting style. But just like when Alabama loses to the #10, it doesn't necessarily mean the #10 should jump over Bama.

I really think Khal Drogo could be in the top 3 if he knew how to fight with armor. I also really like Bronn and in ten fights against the Mountain, I bet he would win at least 3. His long distance attack by throwing knife definitely earns him consideration for a spot in the top 10.

I don't really think that means Ned is 2nd tier. Boromir is a complete bad ass. He literally killed like 30 Urahkai before dying which are Orcs bred with humans to be larger and stronger than the average orcs and was only killed cause he was shot with 3 huge arrows and still killed a couple after being shot.

TV Ned > book Ned > Martin's internal Ned.
No, there is nothing in the book to indicate that he's better than Martin's internal Ned. If you think there is, please quote it.

the show situation is pretty sad because when you watch the first season you know they paid a lot of attention to the books and everything seems perfect. then at this current season it seems like they are wiping their butts with the book pages. I don't really care about show changes, as long as they make sense. for example, arya at harenhall with tywin was one of the highlights of season 2, and that interaction wasn't even in the books. they just don't seem capable of creating new, decent content anymore.

Unless he just says Ef it let the show do what it wants and takes his usual 6 years to write ADOS ( which i guess is prob likely) It will prob be way too rushed for him.

If he rushes any book it will be book 6. Book 7 has absolutely zero chance of coming out before the show ends.

why bother rushing TWOW then? Maybe there will be 2 years of material in there alone.
