That would actually be nonsensical.

Think about it this way. They set up Walt with a DEA agent BIL to create tension and other than a few occasional secondary storylines, they haven't really explored this dynamic yet.

Now that Walt is part of the biggest operation in the area and has ostensibly made Hank and his wife an accessory to the point that it would ruin any chance he has of resuming his career, it gives Hank just enough of a moral dilemma that it wouldn't be a snap decision for Hank to bust Walt and destroy his wife's sisters life in the process.

I was just thinking about this the other day, but as drug lord, having a pi work for you is brilliant. Good pipeline of information, expert at finding people, and can sit on a house without getting in trouble with local law enforcement.
