Anyway, I don't think they're just going to wipe everyone out ala Oz and make it a huge death parade. It's not going to end well, that's for sure, but bad and depressing endings can also include characters living to absorb the consequences of their actions.

Guess I'm not watching Oz now.

Yea, there's a lot of ways they could go with it, Walt dead or Walt surviving but his actions leading Walt Jr. to his death being the most facile.

Ultimately it doesn't matter at all who lives or where the pieces end up, it's all about execution. I'd be upset if it ends in a Scarface shootout if it's done badly and happy with it ending with Walt and Jesse watching a movie if it's done right.

That wasn't an Oz spoiler. First of all, I was exaggerating - not everybody dies. Secondly, the high body count is introduced in the first season and the trend continues every season, so it's as much of a spoiler as saying Walt cooks meth in Breaking Bad. Thirdly, Oz was like 10 years ago, so if you haven't seen it yet...

fourthly, even if you do go back and watch Oz you should stop long before the final season.

his way out was when he found out the cancer went into remission and he had nobody to sell the 38 lbs of crank to in season 2.

i could bring up some vince gilligan quotes here i guess but it should be pretty obvious by now that there isn't going to be a way out. i'm 99% sure the show ends with walt either dead/in prison or a complete sociopath drug kingpin.

I gave up on Oz at just about the end of the 3rd season. I just had no attachment to it. Granted that was only 2 years ago and had I saw when it when first aired, I'd probably would've watched all of it. But the HBO shows that came after ruined me being able to get into it.

Just caught up. Holy ****, this show is incredible. The final two episodes of S3 are probably the best television I've ever seen, and "Run" is the best scene of all time. I held off on starting this show as long as I could, and my only regret is that I didn't wait until about mid-August to do it. July is a looooong way away.

you fell into the same trap as me, only you stalled a month longer. Good job on that.

I am still excited after those last few season 3 episodes, they wrapped the season so amazingly well. Especially because there are a few storylines they can latch on to and continue with throughout season 4, without it being annoying during the season finale to see them left alone. It's going to be gooood.

For real. I've seen every ep. already and just finished rewatching the series for the 3rd time last night. The "run" scene is one of the best in the entire series imo, and had to rewind it 3 times or so. Unreal we have to wait until July. Gotta get that blue s**t

I was way behind this season and now I'm up to "The Fly". I wanted to see what people were saying about the last 4-5 eps so I jumped in in the middle and started reading.

I miss a ton of stuff watching tv/movies so I'm far from an expert but it's so tilting how many people have ridiculous beefs with the plot, especially some character behaviour. People aren't 1-dimensional. People sometimes react to a situation emotionally and say things they don't mean. People can have multiple (even conflicting) reasons for doing something.

I didn't read the start of the thread so I guess I missed most of the Skylar hate, but oh my, some of you guys have some deep-rooted issues with women! Oh, and, really don't seem to get how much Walt's behaviour would appall the average, intelligent, person. Not to mention, to some degree, he's risking their family's well-being, both physically and emotionally. It would be humiliating if Walt were caught.

/rant

Walt standing watching the RV get destroyed kinda ruined that scene for me. I think it would have been an amazing visual but I just can't believe Walt would stay there. I might be guility of the same thing I was just complaining about, but I just don't see any emotional attactment overriding Walt's need to not get caught by Hank. I don't really mind it as much after the fact, but I just couldn't get into while I watched.

I actually loved Aaron Paul in this episode. His venom-spitting I'm-gonna-git-u-sucka monologue about Hank was really bad-ass and I thought he delivered it well. The more vulnerable lost-soul-scorned-son spite rant to Walt was equally well delivered and carried further by a great makeup job.

The last 10 minutes could not have been more beautifully directed imo. Hank hears the boss say "maybe you've got a guardian angel" and then steps into the closing elevator doors and you're like oh-crap-he-gonna-get-whacked. Then the walk through the parking lot builds suspense, the phone call kicks things off, and then melee.

At the time I was knocked out by how well done everything was. I absolutely had no idea what would happen. First I thought maybe the brothers aren't coming. Then they shot at him and I thought he'd die. Then he rammed brother #1 and I thought he'd get away. Then brother #2 went after him and shot Hank and I was sure he was dead. But then he walks away to get the axe and Hank finds the hollow point and I thought oh-snap mistake, ese. But then he couldn't load the gun in time and I figured Hank was done for, but then of course boom headshot.

By the time the dust settled and my heart rate went back to normal, I thought about the scene rationally and don't really like it. As someone else said, these brothers were ruthless killing machines and even though they'd never been too technically graceful, they've been characterized as effective. So it didn't make sense that they'd lose to an unarmed cop. And you could see the writers almost realized that and got Hank shot up pretty bad just when you thought he'd get away, but ultimately they'd rather continue the series with Hank than with the cousins.

I like that idea from the standpoint that we've come to know this character and Dean Norris is a better actor than the Moncados, but I don't like it from a storytelling perspective because in a show this darkly realistic, I'd expect Hank to get whacked right there. Too many convenient things had to happen for him to survive that gunfight. And the whole "nah, I won't shoot you, that's TOO EASY" excuse to save Hank's life was perilously close to horrible-TV-cliche. Bummed me out in retrospect. But damn was it well executed.

That's Ed, holy crap has Hank had a rough couple weeks!
Really well said. I think this is the main source of contention. The episode was executed near-perfectly but it just seems so implausible. I think my biggest qualm would be the manner they originally set out to kill Hank, and the gun flying into his reach (which was mitigated by him shooting at the vest).

I have no issue with buddy not getting out of the way of the vehicle and I think the other dude going for the axe was in-line with his character. Not kicking the gun away, etc, could eaasily be explained with the emotions involved with his cousin just being "killed", imo.

Such a great season so far, I can't believe I got so far behind. I just never want to be distracted and I know as soon as I watch 1 ep, I'm going to want to keep going.

edit. I thought Jesse's monologue and rant were awesome and executed really well. This guy has had so many good roles and he always nails it.

I have to say the last half of the third season had to be the best TV viewing experience I've had in my life. I remember saying "it can't get better than this" numerous times after each episode. and then next week, BAM, I watch an even more intense episode. "run" had to be the climax while Jesse shooting Gale being the cigarette afterward.
