Off the top of my head, I think that James Spader has done it for Boston Legal.

After checking, he won in 2004 for the role of Alan Shore on The Practice, and then won in 2005 and 2007 for Boston Legal.

That's awesome that Aaron Paul took it down. He was so good in Season 3.

To portray a **** that perfectly, she has to be somewhat of a **** in real life, so she probably isn't acting much.

This totally doesn't follow at all.

They haven't started *anything* with season 4.

I don't think she's a very good actress and I think her character is the worst thing about the show.

That's fair. You can play an ******* without being one, though.

Yeah, I was mostly just kidding around because I wouldn't like to see her get any credit. It annoys me she even got what turned out to be such an important role because she's really not qualified for it.

I mean can she play one of Jerry's girlfriends in Seinfeld? Debatable. Should she be the lead actress in arguably the greatest series of all-time? God no.

I'm also pretty sure she was a dude at one point in her life.

HATE HATE HATE

SO happy for Aaron Paul. I don't watch the other shows, so I don't know how good the other actors are, but Aaron Paul is amazing! He is always so humble in his interviews and so gracious. MmMm Aaron Paul in a tux

I've never understood all the Skyler hate. Her character is written very realistically imo, many women would react just like she has. And the conflict with Walt is very important to the show, it would be terrible if she reacted all "oh, you're cooking meth now...cool, I'm on board." It would be terrible because that's not how people act and it would also be bad from a story arc perspective.

And if your problem is with Gunn's acting and not the writing, point me to a single scene where her acting is bad. You won't find it, Gunn is awesome and so is the Skyler character.

Couldn't disagree with that much more. Her character is incredibly unrealistic. She's more unrealistic than exploding turtles, the twins, and even the ******ed plane crash angle.

Obviously she shouldn't have been like "cool I'm on board (though she is now let's not forget)"

She should have and would have said something much sooner than she did instead of letting it get to the point it did. No woman I've ever met would turn down all the chances she had to go ape ****.

And I'm on my phone now but I'm sure it won't be too hard to find examples of her terrible acting later.

And on top of all this, she still looks like a dude either way.

Firstly, this is a problem (although it's a dumb criticism and 100% wrong) with the writing. You do understand that Anna Gunn doesn't get to make up her character's dialogue, right?

And Skyler repeatedly asked Walt to stop lying to her and to tell her the truth. He refused, again and again and again, like a stone wall. It was completely obvious that he was lying to Skyler. How hard is she supposed to press exactly? Remember that he has terminal cancer this whole time.

Have you seen Bryan Cranston? Gunn might be a bit mannish but she's way better looking than him. Walt did good.

I'm obviously aware she didn't write her own part. I haven't treated you like a ****** so I don't know why you'd treat me like one. I have problems both with the writing AND her acting. Skyler is just the perfect storm of all things terrible (though she did get somewhat better in s3).

And Walt probably couldn't have done much better but if they were going to contrive a completely unrealistic character, they could have made her nicer to look at.
08-30-2010 , 05:26 PM
So what is your problem with how Skyler is written?
08-30-2010 , 05:33 PM
I tihnk her character is super realistic and is very in keeping with how a lot of married couples would act around each other. I actually think you hate the character without realising that means Anna Gunn is actually doing a good job. Also the stuff about her looks is just ******ed.
08-30-2010 , 05:37 PM
Yes, the natural impulse is to dislike the character because we so strongly identify with Walt and she is a hindrance to his plans. But when you examine things from her perspective you must admit that the way she is acting is entirely reasonable, and 100% in keeping with her warning in the pilot "the worst thing you can do is shut me out." And we see this is very true, now that Walt has let her in somewhat she is becoming helpful to Walt.

Her season 1 scenes involving her sister's cleptomania sucked, as did the season 2 scenes involving her and the boss guy, especially her singing at the birthday party.

I'm not saying it's the acting or the writing. It could be either or both, or something else. But those scenes/storylines didn't work, it was a great relief that they dropped the shoplifting one.

Obviously, her scenes with Cranston are awesome, but the guy is so strong that's not saying much about her.
08-30-2010 , 05:52 PM
I really disagree that the storyline with the boss didn't work. It was very important in developing both the plot and Skyler's character.

I thought the kleptomania scenes were fine. They were just a way to explore the relationships between Marie, Skyler, and Hank and provide a little comic relief.
