yeah, if they basically cut it in half it would have been perfectly fine and even kinda cool

I disagree with those who think things are moving too fast. The pacing of the show is slow and deliberate, it seems to be moving a little faster than season one but nothing feels rushed.
With the exception of the last episode of Jesse and the neighbor chick (who is becoming boring enough to become a Rocky Balboa love interest), I also think the pacing of the storytelling is phenomenal. Things move from episode to episode but nothing is rushed (like, for an extreme example, the last couple seasons of Rescue Me) and nothing drags (like, for an extreme example, the middle-late seasons of The Sopranos).

But what really impresses me is how deftly this show shifts between drama and horror and comedy and action and suspense in a single episode - and maintaining this perfect balance while making episodes that hardly resemble each other (while each being a total joy to watch). The writing, directing, acting, and editing seem to be completely in concert and so much better than any crap I've paid to see in a theater in years. The only comparison I can think of, as far as shifting gears between different elements that can hit on so many different emotions, is Pulp Fiction and that movie relied on a ****ed-up timeline.

What I find interesting is how BB even goes into this somewhat... the foreshadowing in this latest ep, the doll in the pool, a first season ep that showed walt with the money sack before he got it, etc

and emphatic +1 on the deftly changing genre point

I thought the tub crashing through the floor in season 1 was an awesome scene, but the turtle scene just blew that one away. More than made up for the intro.

I have been thinking that this is generally the direction the show will go. Skylar hooking up with the boss is a given. No big surprise coming there. Walt is for sure going to die at some point, even if his death is delayed by him "responding positively" to the treatment. I do not think he will die from cancer, but more likely something related to the drug trade. Surely his family will turn their backs on him when they find out his evil-doings. I do wonder about Hank's role in all this. I think Hank will end up helping Walt escape the clutches of the DEA, the cartel or just helping him in general.

Agree that the song was good but too long. It could have been 60 seconds and worked.

I think the pacing is fine. They have 8-episode seasons, not 12 or 13 like many cable series. Story needs to develop quickly. I loved the turtle scene, I loved the "speak of the devil" and "I'm a blowfish" lines, and I really loved the final shot. Two ****-ups watching a TV that doesn't work and holding hands. Clearly Jesse doesn't even have a satellite dish and is too stupid to figure out that he needs one to hook it up, and the girl doesn't care. She just likes someone to spend time with.

How about Walt dies and Jesse assumes his identity... shaved head, all black with hat/shades

What, and stop wearing those hideous oversized hoodies? Never.

Oh the hapless Jesse "Diesel!" Pinkman, the sweet hearted meth king pin with the heart of gold. Managed to turn pathetic into earnest and vulnerable and win the girl.

The blow fish scene reminded me a bit of a season 1 scene where Walt is trying to buck Jesse up and somehow lands on, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!"

I think Skinnypete is a better guess for flipping. He's on probation, if I remember right. But they are such a band of misfits that none of them would surprise me.

I just hope walt doesn't flip, that would be a very Weeds-esque turn and would be quite lame.

There is some really good character study going on in this series, and I think the overarching theme is (or will be) that you are who you are, even if you don't know it, and you can't escape who you really are forever.

Jesse the drug dealer is really a sweetheart who isn't cut out for the business, while Walt the chemistry teacher is actually a hardcore MFer who's been asleep his whole life. Etc.

Loved the intro, but agree it was too long. Very cool article about the narcorridos or whatever they are.

Unfortunately, the turtle scene has made everyone kinda forget about the Walt and Student grade scene.

Really showed how Walt it developing a very "**** you!" attitude to the rest of the world.

The Breaking Bad website has some pretty sweet wallpapers:

My favorites:

2nd one is definitely my favorite

wish they had a black hat wallpaper

maybe of them meeting with tuco

found this one

I was hoping Hank was pretending to not know Spanish around the other agents and the druglord, but that would've been pretty cliche.

Walt's ridiculous smooth criminal outfit is fantastic.

This one is a nice throwback to Season 1

You could use this one

04-21-2009 , 07:25 PM
Layered, like nachos...exponential growth -- that's success.
04-22-2009 , 12:23 PM
if hank knows spanish and is faking it, thats terrible

Jesse saying "Im a blowfish!!! blowfish this up" (and hitting the bong) is hilarious
04-22-2009 , 03:38 PM
as awesome as danny trejo is, i sort of respect the producers/whoever for not "overusing" an awesome actor, opting to just tease us and then kill him off. ballsy.

the turtle scene is definitely one of the best things i've ever seen on screen.

predict bedicke (or whatever) gets caught slipping and walt "handles" it with extreme prejudice.

thought the song intro was awesome. thought the turtle was f'n awesome.

I wondered the same thing. The husband thinks it wouldn't say "searching for satellite" if he didn't.

Liked the intro. The Gringo's already dead. He just doesn't know it yet.

Includes preview material:

Spoiler:
So the previews show Walt hiring a lawyer. I think it's interesting with his earlier calculation in the season of 11 weeks until he has the stash he needs. First they lose half their profit and he has to stake Jesse, now another big roll of cash goes to the lawyer. Seems the longer this goes on, the deeper he gets, the farther away his goal becomes. Crime doesn't pay kids!
