so much this.

just thinking about the packers potentially winning on sunday makes me kinda misty-eyed. i'm young, so i didn't watch the packers during their back-to-back super bowl appearances, and if i could just see them in it, god...

i broke down when the brewers made the playoffs, but i can't even imagine what i'd be like if the packers win this week.

I was in high school when they built the team that went. I was 19 when they won. Live it up, it doesn't happen too often, if you can't be at the Super Bowl, be in Green Bay. It was nuts. You could barely drive downtown, in fact I walked as the house I was at for the game was only a mile or so from downtown. I guess Lambeau Field was nuts too from what I hear. I grew up eye distance from there, I could see LF from my backyard. I still live close enough that I hear activities on game days.

I grew up on the '80's packers that sucked every year, so in a sense you young ins are spoiled to not know what that was like. I would love to be at this game on Sun. I am working on getting tickets, I went to one Packers/Bears game in CHI, which they lost. I remember Sharpe made a big catch, it was the Majkowski era. I have been to plenty of Bears/Packers games in Lambeau, most notably the instant replay game.

This is the biggest game in the storied history of these two franchises. Winning this game is just as big as the Super Bowl (ok just less). There isn't a team I would rather beat then the Bears.

Enjoy it if it happens. I got on the Pack bus at the end of the Majkowski era and within 5 years they won a superbowl. I thought being a Packers fan was ez game. IF it happens again, I will savour the **** out of a Superbowl.

^^^ Same. First memories of Packers QB are with Don "Magic" Majkowski. Fond memories of guys like Sterling Sharpe as well. Not-so-fond memories of the whole not-picking-Barry Sanders draft fiasco. Ugh. But remember 1997 and 1998 as well. Being a great team and the 'favorite' is not nearly enough. I think the Pack CAN beat anyone, but they have to put it together for two tough games. The Bears will do everything they can to make it tough, I'm sure...

Ah, Majikowski. I remember the last game he started in, when the Bengals knocked him out and Favre came in. Man that was a crazy game.

nobody was upset we didnt draft barry until a year later, moreso considering we had to face him twice a year and were always reminded of it.

mandarich was, in our minds, considered a genetic freak. he was going to block 4 guys at a time. he was a super athlete and had a mean streak. he was going to be the greatest OT of all time. it didnt work out, but i certainly dont think he was a bad pick with the info available at the time.

I live in Manitowoc...I still remember the Super Bowl victory 15 years ago!! (I was 9) Whole town went nuts and I remember wishing I could experience it again. Don't want to get too ahead of myself but the only playoff teams I was really worried about were Philly, Atlanta, and the Pats and they've all gone down. This Sunday will be epic. The Bears could easily play their best game of the season.

All true, but he was a huge bust and the Packers version of Sam Bowie (#1 draft ahead of Michael Jordan)

Enough history though, I think we can beat the Bears if 1) special teams hold up (i.e. no Hester specials) and we keep turnovers in check. Both defenses are good, but Rodgers >>> Cutlah!

This is really unfair to Bowie.

I was so stoked when the Packers drafted Mandarich. I was a high school left tackle at the time, and he was my hero. The fact that a Toronto boy was gonna be the best left tackle in the league playing for my favourite team really captured my imagination.

It was Mandarich and Majkowski's 4th down play against the Bears made me a Packer fan.

Edit:
Just found out he wrote a memoir. Gonna have to check it out.

Bowie played 10 years in the NBA and averaged like 11 pts/ 8 rebounds a game.

2nd page bump

People have already tried to name this game. Some are calling it "The Biggest Game Ever", Kevin Seifert's Viking loving ass calls it the "Epicenter of Humanity". I've seen this team at it's best, and the Bears will always suck, so I have a feeling it'll be known as the "Mistake by the Lake".
