I've noticed most of the season that McCarthy seems to let up on offense and settle for just trying to run out the clock way too early. Sometimes as early as 5 or 6 mins left in the 3rd when we are only up 7-10 points. He'll start doing Run, Run, pass on inevitable 3rd & 7, Run, Run, etc... more often then not it always seems to allow the other team to get back into the game at the very end. He needs some of the Belichick "I'm up by 21 but **** you anyway" spirit.
This x 1000. That's something that McCarthy really needs to stop doing; the Pack are one of those teams that can dominate on both sides of the ball and still give the opponent a shot to win in the end. It's bit them on the ass before and nearly did today. What a nerve racking final drive. He's got to have some short pass plays for this situation doesn't he? I mean the Eagles knew EXACTLY what was going to happen and the Pack's rushing attack is kind of terrible right now...
Kind of weird he let time run out in the first half rather than attempt to get the 25 yds or so needed to put Crosby in FG range. Unexplainable, if the Pack lose McCarthy definitely would have to answer for that.
I do have to give McCarthy credit for not running that stupid quick lateral throw to the WR off the snap, that play almost never works in general but I don't think I've ever seen the Packers run it successfully, yet McCarthy had been calling it once every game...maybe he's learning.
My impression of the game right now is that it really came down to who got the most breaks, as both teams got screwed over quite a bit. I know the Jones drop is going to be talked about a lot, but Driver also dropped one to start the second half, if he makes it and gets the 1st then the Rodgers fumble that sets up the Eagles quick score may have never happened. On the other hand Akers missing two FGs was pretty damn clutch...
Really hoping the Pack can bring their A-game to Atlanta. IMO ATL isn't really too great for a 1 seed and the Packers definitely has what it takes to beat them. The lines are out and have the Pack as 2 point dogs, which means that they thought PHI actually had a better chance. If we win whoever we play in the NFC Championship game would be pretty epic. Bears would be incredible, can't believe there hasn't been a GB/CHI playoff game in >60 years, gotta think GB would be favored there too. If they play Seattle somehow it would be probably the most bizzare NFC Championship game ever.
