anyone having trouble finding a place to live should just lie imo. There is no consequences, if you get caught your in the same position as you'd be in if you didn't. Also once you're in you're in, they're not going to evict you unless you cause problems. Even when the rental market is tight and you have people competing for a space it's beneficial to tell the landlord whatever it takes to beat the competition.

Prepaying rent is a terrible idea for a # of reasons. Also giving your landlord post dated cheques is convenient but if anything goes wrong they cost $10 each to cancel and even if you do pay the bank $10 to cancel they will not guarantee that the cheque will not be cashed. If that cancelled cheque does get cashed you don't get your $10 back

No none of this has happened to me, thankfully

I'll be facing this problem soon enough. In the UK there is no scope to lie though as most agencies will want to check with your employer how much you earn, etc. As a poker player I'll have no option but to offer to pre-pay if they don't find my 'life-graph' inspiring

I moved into new flat in october and was really nervous about this. I offered to pay the 6 month contract in advance and got no problems. Now I pay monthly. I think maybe the fact I wore yellow and got my jakeys on influenced them as well. Woteva.

Personally I dread moving since the bolded is unfortunately not the case in Australia as most rental agencies share information (and in addition to that the private market is extremely sparse). I rent in both Sydney and Brisbane here and have incredibly difficult times when moving at either property (even when I had StoxPoker income). Most rental agencies wouldn't consider money up front and having enough money in the bank to cover a few months rent didn't appear to help - Everything came down to employment.

Couldn't see any landlord turning people away in a global recession, especially if the tenant was a cash kid.

Far more people looking to rent then available properties here - makes it harder to secure a place.

Well I guess the good hting is that I already have a place and Im only moving because I want to, so if all else fails I just stay where I am

The idea is to come up with a good believable story with "facts" to back it up. It will take you less time to come up with a story and counterfeit "proof" than it will to get rejected over and over until you evenutally find someone who will accept you.

man...i never thought about that side of things for you guys who are pros. any of u pros ever bought a house? seems like that would be even 10 times harder than trying to prove u are rent worthy.

my dream is 1 duffle bag with the cash for the house, and telling the realty agent to take that and leave my house.

2 years of taxes filed with good income + 20% down does the trick most of the time I believe

I didnt seem to have too much trouble buying my condo. The main thing they wanted was 2 years of filed taxes and 20% down payment, so malice is correct. I also bought it with my girlfriend at the time (now wife) and she had decent income, ~50k/ year. It was kinda funny because the loan officer and title insurance guy knew I was a poker player and they were cool with that and didnt seem to care, but they didnt want to put that down on "paper" just in case the underwriters didnt approve it. So they put down that I was an "internet entrepreneur" so that no questions would be asked. But I think that's just how it is here in Hawaii, people are pretty friendly and we take care of each other.

The key is 2 years tax returns, if I had that for poker I could rent anywhere without a problem. What I do for a living isnt illegal, I just gotta get "somerandomfish" to write me a paystub, thats all.

Pretty used to not finding things in my size. Bought three pairs of jeans this week from Casual Male B&T, only one ended up fitting.

Even in high school, I'd go to Foot Locker and say "bring out what ever you have in size 16." I'd get to select from two or three pairs max. Its no where as hard to find shoes in my size anymore because of the interweb though.

Weird timing. I didn't have it as of this morning, but it's now showing up on my promotions page. Maybe they got tired of me requesting hands via email every three weeks.
