Milham Park Golf Course today, which is a muni here in Kalamazoo. Very nice layout, and well maintained for a muni. Very walkable course built in the 1930s. Par is 35-37, shot 42-40. Bogeyed the first 5, doubled 6, then played +3 over the last 12.
Greens were rock hard and rolled, as such I only hit 5 GIR's, but had 28 putts. Scrambled really well.... pitched in for par on 9, made a 40 foot par putt on 11. Its the type of course where if you were 3-5 yards off the fairway, you were probably in/behind some very mature trees, as I was a few times today, leading to sideways punch shots.
Got paired up with some other stragglers as it was starting to get busy... One guy had the oddest pre-shot/swing I've ever seen. His swing was very upright, and he would turn his head and follow the first 1/3 of his back swing on every shot: driver to wedge. Pre-shot, he would line up at address, take his normal back swing, and follow through 8-10 inches in front of the ball, not hitting it obviously. Then flex his knees, and hit. It was bizarre to watch.
The other 2 guys were retirees, and one was handicapped and played the entire round from a specially designed personal cart, even on the greens. He played the reds as he didn't hit it far, but he was never out of the fairway, and made some nice putts. The other guy had to tee it up for him, get it out of the hole, etc.
