I like that order too.

Walked 9 yesterday morning. Had zero birdies or pars.

1 - Approach in water
2 - Tee shot OB left
3 - Tee shot OB right
4 - Lost ball in trees left
9 - Lost ball in trees left

So much fun.

Heading down to Florida from mid winter Denver on Saturday for a few days. Haven't hit a golf ball in like 12 days, which is the longest break I've taken since last winter. I've had wrist tendonitis since like June, feeling pretty good. Excited to get it 100% this winter and really strengthen it, since it limited my ability to practice for all my tournaments. Haven't had more than a 45 minute range session since August I think, since those are what would really make it angry.

Played Streamsong Red a few weeks ago. Shot 73 (34-39) from the tips. Was 3 under through 14 and made 2 sloppy doubles on 15 and 17. Very cool property, definitely want to make a trip back there at some point and play the blue/black courses as well. Was fun to play another Coore/Crenshaw after playing Colorado Golf Club in the mid am earlier this fall a few times. All 3 of the ones I've played now have so many similarities.

Where in Florida you playing?

Coore/Crenshaw are my favorite course designers. With that said I like the Black course much better than the Red or Blue. I even like the Blue over the Red, which says a lot about that property.

Just down in Jupiter at my parents’ club. We drove from a wedding in Tampa to Jupiter 3 weeks ago, which is why we just played one round. I really liked how firm they had streamsong playing. Unusual for Florida. I’m eager to go back.

Was funny how far up they had the back tees. They had no yardage plates on the tee boxes,, and I’m guessing the tips were 500/600 yards up off their 7250 or whatever was marked. I just played the back plates on every hole.

Guessing they don’t want people to slow down the pace.

3 birdies, 3 doubles

Grass is starting to thin out around the greens making for some difficult chips.

It all fell apart on the approach to 11 and kept getting worse from there.

I suck.

What falls apart? Everything?

I’m pretty bad at letting things spiral out of control and bad shots turn into a bad hole and then a bad stretch of holes. When I play my best there is none of that. But also I’m playing well... so chicken/egg - hard game.

Sick hookup. Congrats!!!

I’ve been there 3 years. 4 days. All practice days. I’d concur with preference of competition days being Friday, Saturday, Thursday, Sunday.

Personally I like the practice days. Much more relaxed and easier to make sure to see the whole property if you were never there. Plus I love seeing all the action on TV during competition.

But, what you’ve got is absolutely prime choice. Only thing that would make it better is if they were Berckman’s Place badges. Enjoy!!!

Could be anything on any given day.

42-45-87 today. No birdies, dunno how many others I had.

Today I started out good with birdie putts inside of 20 feet on 1, 3 and 4, and I was +1 thru 4. Then I fell apart after that.

I also managed my worst 6 iron of all time today. I had 177 left into a decent wind. 6 iron is my 190y club so I wanted to take extra to keep the spin off into the wind. Never completed my swing and left the club face so far open that it started left and sliced even further left and went OB. If I had to guess I must have been 60 yards left of my target. Of course I drop and hit the next one to 20 feet and make the putt for bogey.

No golfing to report on, but did book Phoenix for 5 days at end of Jan, so actually going to have to get to the indoor range a bit before then to swing.

Nice. I’m a short flight to Phoenix and have never been; typically go to Naples in January as I have a place to crash at a course but need to mix it up one of these winters.

What part of town are you staying and what courses are on your itinerary? Will you rent a car or use uber?

Feels good to play decent again. Putter heated up the last 6 holes or so. Actually managed to play the par 5s at -3 for a change. The two doubles were crazy stupid, was 55 and 94 yards out for my approach on them.

Back to back competition rounds a week after surgery (very unexpected!)

First yesterday at a course an hour or so down the coast I visited for my birthday 2 months ago, only my second round there. Struggled off the tee early but putter was good, as were irons for the most part.
86 (+14) off a handicap of 11. Needed par for my net even 83 on the last, par 5. Perfect drive, laid up to 93m - easy GW into the wind and did EXACTLY what I did during my birthday round in September - shanked it right and made triple. GAH!
1 birdie
8 pars
3 doubles
1 heart-wrenching triple
6 FW
6 greens
33 putts

Today at my home course:

Was playing really well until two bizarre spasm-chunk hooks off two different par 3’s no idea where they came from. One led to a good bogey, other to a horrible 3-putt double. Aside from that I played quite well.

82 (net par) playing off 10
2 birdies
6 pars
2 doubles
31 putts
6 FW
5 greens

Drained a monster for birdie on 10 which was nice, feels like a while since I’ve holed a long one.

I was 5 over with four to play. GUH!

Gotta look at the positives though - I’m definitely improving still and my new irons are just right for me. My bad shots are from bad swings, and my good swings are generally rewarded. My mate gave me his almost-new Odyssey StrokeLab double-wide blade as well the other week and I’m enjoying putting with it. Handicap has stalled but I’m trusting the process bigtime. Plus, a week out from surgery I’m playing without hinderance, bonus!

Eagle was from 104y out. Threw it about 10 feet behind the hole and spun it in.

Golf is fun again.

41-38-79

12 pars, 5 bogeys, 1 double

Left SO MANY putts on the edge or lipped out birdies.

I played 1 tee back today compared to the Thursday round:

Thursday white tees: 76 - 5.8 diff
Sunday blue tees: 79 - 6.4 diff

The course plays infinitely easier up a tee and I guess this shows it. Perfect example is the 10th. Today playing into a 1.5 club wind. 180 from blue, 148 from white. All carry over water.

Really no idea! I got the invite to a regular group trip when a couple guys couldn't make it this year. One of the guys owns a place in Phoenix, so probably all of us pile into a big van.

I am not very familiar with courses there but since accommodations are taken care of it sounds like we play pretty nice courses. Wickenburg is one they said? Los Caballeros is another. They also mentioned a place called Founder/Victory at Verrado which is apparently near the house.

You're playing courses right by me. Los Caballeros is a fine course though I don't remember being blown away. If it's Wickenburg Ranch that's one of the nicest courses in this part of the valley... though I haven't played it myself. Wanted to play it this summer while rates were down but the schedule never worked out.

Verrado is outstanding. Founders is the older of the two and my preference by far. Victory is very very nice as well, and a lot easier as there's more room to miss off the tee. I played it this summer when it was 105 out. There's absolutely no shade on the Victory course so it was a pretty miserable round. I've played Founders about 10 times as it's one of the nicest, and best valued, courses in the West Valley. It would cost a lot more if it was over in Scottsdale. Both the Verrado courses, especially Founders, can be challenging if you're not accurate off the tee since being wide of the fairway and rough usually leads to lost balls in the desert.

You have a great list of courses for that area. Only thing that would make it better was playing Quintero. It's a little closer to where you're staying than Wickenburg Ranch and Los Caballeros and is probably the best public course in AZ. But I can't see you being disappointed in any of those tracks. Enjoy the trip.

Good to know! Thank you.

The guys also mentioned Quintero as well but I think said the rates spiked way up recently and our Canadian dollar sucks, ha.

I should read some of the Arizona golf thread.

+3 (12 holes)

3 birdies, 2 doubles

Two OB balls on the doubles. Almost got away with a bogey on one of em but missed to 10 footer. Stuck a shot on a par 3 to 1 foot, right behind the hole, no spin

GAHH!

For a while now I’ve really wanted to play a competition round without a double or worse, and was on my way today only to spaz my tee shot on the 18th and make my only double.

Shot +10 which is net even at my home course for me as a 9.2hc but I was 7 over with 2 to play. Lipped out for par after a pretty average bunker shot on 17 then the disaster on 18.

Tough start with a tough up and down for par on the first then a few bogeys before draining long birdie putts on 5 & 6 to make the turn at +2.

Second round in a row with only 27 putts. Had 27 putts on Wednesday and only hit 1 GIR, which I lol-3balled for bogey.

10 bogeys
5 pars
2 birdies and one double.

Only 2 GIR and birdied both so that’s nice.

Mental game was the difference - a few of those bogeys were from spots I should have been getting up and down from. We’ll get em next time!

That is one hell of a score for only hitting 2 greens!

To put into perspective last Sunday I shot 79 while hitting 10 GIR.

Haha, I have a pretty solid short game for the most part. I love chipping, I’d say I practice it more than anything.

Played a new course on the Gold Coast with my group of golf buddies on Sunday and shot 83. Lots of water - something like 14 holes it’s in play. Only found it once though. Wedge game was very solid.

Third round in a row with only 27 putts - though this one included a three and a four putt!! Greens were tough to get a handle on and the 4 putt was a back pin set upon what seemed like a mountain, misjudged pace on the first two putts badly. Was only my third hole of the day and had only had tap-ins to that point so far.
