41-42 83. 8/14 fairways and 6 GIR

1 birdie, 8 pars, 6 bogies and 3 doubles :-/

Pretty good ball striking day. Doubled 10 and 11 with a terrible tee shot on each hole. Doubled #5 after nutting a drive and pull hooking my second into a lake

39-41-80. 3 birdies, 3 double bogeys. 10/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 35 putts.

Ball striking so good right now. Two of the double bogeys were 2 chip + 2 putts, the other was a sprayed drive in the trees plus a trip to the beach. Putting is hit or miss, I'm pretty happy with distance control with the replacement putter but direction hasn't been great -- I don't think a heel shafted putter is ideal for me.

Got to see something pretty cool -- one of the guys I play with regularly had his first hole in one. He's played a ton of golf, I've probably played more than 100 rounds with him over the years, he'd never had one. Until today. A no doubter -- the pin was in an accessable spot (I've witnessed two other holes in one on that hole with that pin more or less), it hit, bounced twice and dropped.

Played a 1man best shot yesterday in 20mph winds. Hate playing in the wind. Shot -6 was good enough for 2nd place in 1st flight, but 10th overall out of 70.

Looking forward to a golf/pool touney in 2 weeks. 9 holes 2man best shot then 8ball scotch doubles pool after that. Best total finish takes the $$$. Just wish my partner was a better golfer, we'd be a lock.

38 - 47 -- 85. Opened with 7 pars, +6 through 15 and then two triples and bogey. Ouch. Was not hitting that good in the beginning or that bad in the end, luck evened out mostly. Sucks that way though. Putted better than lately, hope that continues.

Didn't really hit the ball all that well today, a few decent ones but was struggling off the tee.

38 - 39 = 77
31 putts with one 3 putt
5/14 FIR
8/18 GIR
1 birdie, 1 double

51 (18) - 49 (23) - 100 (41)

4 pars, 3 wipes

New best round, played off 33hcap even though golf link says I should've been off 32. Putted awful. Couldn't control my speed at all and missed some howlers. Hit the ball worse on the back 9 but putted a lot better, sinking some key par putts.

very nice.... congratulations

i shot a 92 off the blues at medium difficulty course - pretty tight, not that long nor that punative.

took some lessons and pretty happy with them... although not reflected in score yet.

i counted course management as costing at least 8 strokes - i usually compare it to a bogey......... just places you can't put the ball whatsoever.

putting probably 6 to 8 strokes........ lagging wasn't the best. missed alot of putts within 5 or 6 feet.

pretty sure i can fix both..... not sure i can get to zero wasted strokes in those categories of course.

driving, irons, pitch, chip, sand were all pretty good.

Wind was really gusty today and kept switching directions. I felt like Jordan Spieth backing off shot after shot trying to time the gust or wait it out. Couldn't make any birdie putts today

38 - 38 = 76
30 putts no 3 putts
6/14 FIR
8/18 GIR
1 birdie 5 bogeys

Not my day. 2nd hole a piece of dirt came up from the divot and hit me right in the eye, had to spend a minute dumping water in my eye to flush it. Then I was right next to a tree and had no right handed swing but had a left handed one. There was one tiny tree about 15 feet in front of me but only like a foot wide so wasn't worried figured I would be happy hitting the ball 20-30 yards. So I flip my iron and use the back part to hit the ball and took a full swing, hit it dead flush and it was going to fast enough that I only saw a white blur as it hit the tree 15 feet in front of me and somehow came straight backwards and hit me square in the jaw and then I fell to the groupnd and have a welt on my jaw that is covered by my beard but you can't tell. Still in a decent amount of pain.

Think I shot like 44 - 39 = 83.
And that was just taking a double for my esc max on the hole the ball hit me in the face. not even sure what the penalty is for that.
Was just not my day, I couldn't hit the tree shot again even if I tried

2 stroke penalty in stroke play, loss of hole in match play.

Sounds like a tough round. Get back out there and forget about that one.

Kinda reminds me of something I did in high school although mine was self-inflicted. After taking a 10 on a par 5 I slammed my club down to the ground when holding the shaft near the clubhead. Bounced right back up and hit me square in the forehead leaving a massive welt.

I was dumb like that back then.

solid back 9 play continues. at least i made some putts today. 3 birdies on the front.

what's the best way to call rules infractions on opponents who are trying to play their own casual bull**** rules in a tournament? i don't want to be an ******* so i'm tempted to just let things slide, but at the same time i wish people would just play by the damn rules. this particular tournament was a team event too so i had a responsibility to the rest of my team. observed infractions:

- player wants relief from an "embedded ball". it's obvious that the pitch mark in question isn't the player's own (because the pitch mark is dry and has obviously been there a while and because the trajectory of the shot basically made it impossible) and no relief should be granted, but when i mentioned that you only get relief from your own pitch mark he asked if i saw that the ball didn't land in its own pitch mark. i just suggested they play two balls and we'll get a ruling on it later.

- player starts pulling a root out of the ground because it would interfere with his swing. i just said something like "come on dude, you know you can't pull that out of the ground and improve your lie" and his response was something like "come on, i'm obviously not going to risk ****ing my wrists up on a root". i considered pointing out that he can take relief by declaring the ball unplayable but i let it go.

- player drops ball about 100 yards ahead of the correct spot after pulling it into a lateral, so his approach is now around 150 rather than 250ish. he was probably close to where the ball ended up but obviously nowhere near the spot where the ball crossed the hazard. i said something like "hey dude, how about going back 100 yards?" he walks back maybe 10 yards and asks if that's good, so i just told him "just drop it wherever you think is correct, just remember it's where it crossed the hazard, not where it ended up". he still dropped it at least 80 yards too far up.

- player chips to 2 feet to win the match on 18. i'm about 99.5% sure he double tapped on the chip though and was waiting for him to call it on himself, but that obviously didn't happen. i just let it go.

so do people in the US/canada just let this kinda **** slide in club tournaments normally? playing in europe, people respected the rules a whole lot more and this kind of stuff was never an issue.

I am curious to the answers since I am just now starting to do tournaments. I think you have to say something on all of them except the double chip unless I was sure or the other guy in the threesome thought he saw it as well. Would probably just ask him if he double hit it and go with what he says.

i agree that's prob the right play, but how exactly? what do you say? i obviously did call him out on it but he wasn't particularly interested in taking it seriously and i wasn't about to escalate it into a legit confrontation

as a side note, this is a guy i've considered doing some business with, but i'm now really turned off that idea. it's interesting what you learn about people on the golf course.

I miss golf already when I read this thread. I need to get better much, much faster. On a misc/random/bs note, to get an MRI on my shoulder would cost me $551 out of pocket. Some nice insurance I have there.

And yes, call them on their bull****. If they don't agree then bring it up to the rules official after the round.

I think I only had about 4 from 50+ feet. They were running really well and I just didn't have the speed down so I was blowing them by 10' and not making the comebackers.
