Went off first and got the morning round done in 3 hours. Back out in the afternoon, the weather must have scared people away, played in 3.5 hours from the blues. I'm not sure I can remember a day ever where I've played 36 holes and never had to wait on a single shot.

After everything was easy yesterday it pretty much all sucked today. Back to having no short game and being the worst putter ever. Sigh.

Got in 4 rounds this weekend and I shanked every bunker shot I hit. This is not a happy development.

Too lazy to step off my putts. And I'm terrible at estimating lengths. I think my penis is 8 inches when it's really 4.

Approach length I could do, though.

This was pretty brutal...the wind was about 15 mph but there were some areas of the course, tee boxes etc that were out of the wind. It was incredibly hot in those areas. I went through 5 20 oz bottles of water during the 9-hole walk. Still golf, still fun. Shot mediocre though. I had annoying tailing fade that made me miss most fairways and a couple greens just to the right. Short game was the part that killed me though. Also lost a ball after a shank out of a fairway bunker. Oh well, I'll take my 42 and hopefully in a few weeks I won't have to play in 100+ heat index. Can't even remember what that's like...this summer has been half golf, half world sauna championships.

81 (71.8 / 126)

97.7 degrees out edit: plus 96% humidity, annoying people on course, annoying large flies that do not stop following you, and couldn't catch a break: 4 lipped putts, 5 doubles ... so really I'm pretty happy with this number with all of my hacking it up and starting out awful. It was the ugliest looking 81 I've ever shot.

Yeah, I've resigned to just play holes 1, 4, and 12 for bogey, from both the white and the blues. Just gotta avoid blowups on them. Sucks when you're +6 after 4 holes.

Problem with Torrey South is there are no easy birdie par 4's. I think holes 2, 5 and 15 are the "easiest" and I'm just happy to par them.

Course is brutal, and I'm so addicted to it.

Also, If you want it, I have the greens guide for the south course. I have it on pdf, PM me if you want it. I has helped me a lot with putting from some of the trickier parts of the greens.

Went to probably my new favorite course here in Michigan. Played the West/North courses. Never played the West before but did god-awful. I think it was just me getting used to the heat (95 degrees).

Shot 85 though, front nine was terrible I drove OB 3 holes in a row. Thank god some up-downs saved me. Back nine though started great from the start. Ended up only +3 on the back. Missed 2, 10 foot birdies which both lipped out. Damn putting.

Uggg total wtf round today. Played a pretty tough course in the woods that punishes mis-hits (71.8/127). I actually had to play back-to-back 9s and well I had a lot of mis - hits.

Driver was complete ****ing ****, which has been the 2nd best club for me lately. Just utter nonsense. 2-some that caught up to me must have thought I've never hit a driver before.

3/14 FIR and just about every one was either a worm burner that went straight or deflected off a tree and settled in the fairway. Either sliced drives into the woods or topped them 80 yards to the left leaving a 2nd shot from beneath a bunch of tall pines.

Honestly I would say I had 1 good drive all day and it was the first hole. And after I hit it I thought "that drive kinda sucked". Little did I know...

3/14 FIR
0 GIR
1 Par
4 bogeys
2 nines (one hole I just gave myself ESC 9 after drilling two drives into the ****ing woods).
37 putts
6 penalty strokes
3 sand strokes

Just a big bucket of AIDS. I maybe struck 3 shots well all day. Did drill a 5I to like 8'. Hit a couple full shot wedges close also. BFD.

Sunk a 20ish foot putt for par on a 397yd. par 4 after like a 100 yard drive. Hit 2i about 200 yards then A wedge to 20 feet. Actually I was pleased with the speed of my putts for the most part. I've been working a lot of lag putting and I would say I noticed some major improvement in distance control. Lagged to a foot a few times. Greens were huge so I did have some 3 putts.

Such a disappointing round though. Usually I can figure out what I'm doing wrong and fix it by mid-round but not today. So weird.

btw what’s the regular green fee for a course like the ritz carlton dove mountain course or similar courses with PGA or WGC events? Seems like a steal.

For USD $45 ~ €30, we have to play public courses at the weekend or twilight rates on weekdays for good courses here in Ireland and the country is bankrupt, golf economics eh?.

48-49-97 to break 100 for the first time! Sure it was only a 5862-yard par-70, but I'm counting it.

Warning: TLDR hole-by-hole recap incoming.

#1: low drive down the middle. Course was still pretty damp from morning dew+all the rain we've had lately, and in some spots the rough was taller than usual, so a drive that might've carried 90 yards and rolled 90 more instead died after about 125 yards. Too far out to go for the green, so I lay up with a wedge. 3rd shot I have about 80-90ish yards to a front pin. I pulled it and thought I was headed for the sand, but carried the bunker and landed toward the back of the green. 40+ footer lagged to 5-feet, make that for bogey.

#2: good drive down the right, just misses the fairway. About 90 yards out, come up short with a LW, bad chip shot pushed way right. Run a downhill 20-footer 4 feet past, make that for bogey.

#3: hooked my drive into the left rough in a somewhat muddy lie. Chunk it out well short of the green. Pitch shot comes up short. Chip on to 20 feet, 3 putt triple. Bleh.

#4: 566-yard par-5 with water down the right. Try to hit a fade that starts left and comes back down the middle of the fairway (you can't draw it because of a tree down the right side not far from the tee box). Hit the exact shape I wanted, even if it only went 210 yards. Great position, then I push my next shot right and it bounces into the water. Take a drop, hit my next shot to about 90 yards. Come up just short with a LW. Nice chip to about two feet, tap-in for double.

#5: biggest WTF hole of the day. Awful hook drive goes about 140 yards and ends up in the trees on the left. Try to punch out a low hook, but it runs through the fairway and I'm in the right rough. I try to hit another low hook, but I push it and hit a tree and end up tangled in roots at the bottom of the trunk. If I take an unplayable I was still going to have tree trouble no matter where I went, so I take my 3-iron and figure that I'll just let it pop up in the air and see what happens. (Brilliant course management, right? I should write a book.) It shoots straight up, bounces around in the tree, and comes down farther to the right about 20 yards down. Fortunately, I finally have a decent angle at the green (though still plenty of tree branches above). Hit a 5-iron bump-and-run that chases up on the green and rolls 9 feet past the hole. Make that downhiller for a double.

#6: 160-yard par-3. Pull my tee shot left and short of the green, pitch to 20 feet, two-putt bogey.

#7: 185-yard par-3, tees back but a front pin. I take an easy swing trying to fade it around the trees down the right, but instead I push it a bit and it draws back, barely clips one of the trees, lands short of the green and rolls through. The ball was sitting way up in the rough, so I just hit it very softly and let it trickle down the fringe to the hole. Leave the 6-foot par putt short, tap-in bogey.

#8: really nice fade down the middle that went about 235, leaving me 170 to the hole. 6-iron comes up short, pitch to 10 feet, two-putt bogey.

#9: Hooked my drive a bit, but it took a good bounce and stayed in the fairway. Too far out to risk carrying the water hazard in front of the green, so I punch a 6-iron to about 80 yards. Pop a sand wedge higher than I wanted, but it carries the water and lands on the front of the green, leaving me about 45 feet. Roll it to 4-feet, make that for bogey.

#10: 220-yard drive in the left side of the fairway just past the 150 stake. It was a front pin, but the wind was a little bit against me. I usually would go with a 7 or 8 iron but after my approach on #8 was short I decided to go with the 6. (I was also thinking about what dagolfdoc said about picking the longest club that you know won't go over the green.) I catch it pretty much perfect, it lands on the green and rolls to the back, leaving me a 60+ footer. Come up 13 feet short and well off-line, get that to a foot, tap-in 3-putt bogey on my only GIR of the day.

#11: short par-3. PW short and left of the green. Chip it to 7 feet, make that for my only par of the day.

#12: hit my tee shot and had no idea where it went. I assumed I probably hit a huge slice. I declare (to the imaginary rules official monitoring my group of one) a provisional, and put that safely in the fairway. I walk down the right side of the fairway. I come up even with my provisional (which was in the left half of the fairway), leave my bag there, and keep walking down the right. Look for a bit, don't see it, decide to walk back toward the provisional. Then I see that there are two balls in the fairway, one about 15 yards past the other. Turns out the one I had already seen was my first ball, and the provisional had gone past it. So I go back to my original ball; this is another hole with water in front of the green and I often have to lay up. I hit a terrible punch shot to lay up that goes into the left rough with trees blocking the direct line to a pin at the back left corner of the green. I aim for the right edge of the green, it comes out a bit low and misses right. I hit a decent pitch that runs 9 feet past the hole, but now I've got a tricky right-to-left downhiller. The ball rockets off my putter face and goes 7 feet past. Miss that, tap-in for a 3-putt triple.

#13: Shortish par-3. I felt like I hit my PW tee shot pretty well, but it dies as if I chunked it or just took too much off it and is way short of the green. LW pitch ends up in the fringe just off the front of the green with a front pin. Putt it on a good line, but it lips out and runs a foot past. Tap-in bogey.

#14: Another hole with trees down the right, so I try for a bit of a fade. I was trying to make sure I didn't roll my hands over and hit the ball left or along the ground, but I guess I overcompensated and the ball popped way up in the air for a drive that went 175 yards in distance but who knows what in altitude. Good 6-iron second shot, 3rd shot comes up short from about 100 yards, pitch to 16 feet, 3-putt for triple.

#15: Good drive down the left hand side, but I need to bring the ball a little bit right-to-left to miss the trees down the left, bringing the water on the right of the fairway into play. Push my shot right toward the trees near the green, and I'm thinking "Oh s*** it might bounce off the tree into the water." Fortunately it hits the tree and bounces safely to the left in front of the green. Pitch it to about 35 feet, two-putt bogey.

#16: par-4 that was playing 250ish. Hook my drive, but it squirts past some trees and I've got a good angle into the green from 75 yards or so. Skull my LW and it hits the green but bounces off and goes way past it; now I've got a nightmare 3rd shot to an elevated green that slopes away from me, and if I hit it past the pin I could go in the bunker. I decide to go for a conservative bump-and-run and it ends up in the fringe. Putt it on but come up well short, two-putt double from there.

#17: 500-yard par-5. Skied my drive again, topped my 2nd shot, hit a good 3rd shot to leave me about 110 out. Water short/right of the green, so I know I can't miss there. Hit a wormburner that goes left of the hazard and ends up almost pin-high in the fringe. Lag it to 4 feet, make that for bogey.

#18: I had deliberately avoided adding up my score, but I knew I had to be in good shape to break 100. (I knew I'd had 6 bogeys on the front and 4 on the back, and only a few triples.) I decided not to look at my score unless I started to get into trouble on the hole; then I could decide how conservative or aggressive I should be. I topped my drive 105 yards, but at least I was in the fairway. I hit a good second shot and had another LW into the green. I push/skulled it and narrowly missed the right-hand bunker and went past the green. It's a tricky green because the back falls off pretty sharply, so any chip from the back has to be judged very well, especially to a back pin location, which is where it was today. At this point I decide to tally up my score; if I just need to get on the green and then two-putt I can play conservative, but if I need an up-and-down for 99 I have to go all-out. I so the math and realize that I was at 91 strokes through 17 holes, plus three shots on the hole so far, so my next shot would be 95. I was pretty confident I wouldn't screw that up. I played pretty aggressively and hit a nice pitch that landed on the green and ran up the slope, leaving me a 9-footer to shoot 96. I was too tentative and left it a few inches short, but tapped in for a double.

I guess overall it was how I expected to break 100. Make a lot of bogeys, get rid of the stupid shots and bad holes, keep it in play off the tee, be really steady with the irons, make sure anything from 50 and in ends up on the green. Putting could've been better, wedge play from 50-125 could've been better. Driving distance wasn't great, but I'll blame that on the conditions.

Cliffs:
1 par
10 bogies
4 doubles
3 triples
1 penalty stroke
no bunkers!
9/14 fairways
1 GIR
9 GIR+1
35 putts

I promise not to write any more recaps this long until I break 90.

It totally depends on the season, the dove mountain course is so cheap right now because its 100+ degrees F in arizona and nobody is out golfing. I think their greens fees vary from ~$40 - ~$200 depending on the season.

Quick trip report is that there was no one out so I played alone and decided to play two balls from the blue tees (7250 yards, 74.0 / 146 slope), last time there I played from the copper tees (6800 yards) and shot 100, but I've gotten better. Shot 86 and 96, thrilled with the 86.

I had an entire day to myself yesterday. Daycare took the kids from 7am-5pm. I left the house with a travel mug of coffee around 7:30 and arrived at Grassy Hill Country Club at 7:40, put on my shoes and headed into the Pro Shop. The guy in the shop let me know that I just missed a 3-some, but I could go straight to the tee and catch up with them on the 1st green. So no chipping or putting or warm-up or stretching.

At my request, the starter tells me that they guys are playing the middle tees (69.2/121). I tee it up and stripe one 280. I fat a wedge to the front edge of the green, leave my first putt 7 feet short, but sink the putt. Finally I get things squared away to shoot a 77 (+7) with the following stats:

3 Fairways
11 Greens
35 Putts (enough missed 8-, 10-, 15-, 20-footers to annoy)
My putts totaled about 48 feet.

As my round was coming to an end, I realized that I still had about 5 hours until I had to get the kids. So, I went right back into the shop. I paid again, and walked to the 1st tee by myself; not too many people in Connecticut enjoy playing at Noon when it's 90 degrees (F). Since I just shot 77 from the whites and I left a few strokes out there, I move to the back tee (71/122).

I immediately regretted that decision. I started off Bogey-Double Bogey-Par-Bogey. +4 through 4 holes...ouch. The wind picked up, which I guess got me to focus on each shot more. I then finished off the front Par-Par-Birdie-Bogey-Par for a +4 (40). I played the back pretty well despite feeling some extreme exhaustion and minor dehydration. I ended up shooting 76 (+6) for my second round. I hit some really good shots and hit some putts really well (even some that didn't go in).

5 Fairways
7 Greens
28 Putts (totaling about 60 feet)

After numerous rounds in the 80s, I'm really happy with my results from yesterday.

Haven't played for the last 3 days since it was so hot out and had the pull-draws out of bounds the first 2 holes. Other than that and one other stupid/bad approach I was playing really well.

Gonna start keeping track of approach length. I'm assuming it's the length of your 2nd shot on a par 4 and 3rd shot on par 5? Not really sure what to do if you get on in 2 on a par 5.

If that's not the case, what happens if you are 150 out in the woods and hit a tree and are still 120 out on your next shot to get up and down for par?

http://www.oobgolf.com/golfers/score.php?id=1665349

Edit: Apparently you need to pay for a membership (LOL) to track most the the extra stats on oob. I'll just do driving distance instead. Basically the same thing for par 4s.

FWIW, I think if you format it correctly, you can type in the Comments section the approach lengths in order and kbfc's site will show what you gained or lost. I don't pay for putt distance but just type it in that box as per kbfc's format and then his site shows me how bad I putted.

42-39/81 at Ridgefield (CT)...greens were slick and rock hard...made the mistake of not playing a really soft ball and I think that definitely factored into it. Hit three really solid gap/sand wedges from the middle of the fairway that bounced hard and rolled of the sides or back, at least 20 to 30 feet from my ball mark.

Drove a green!! I never do that...it was 330 dogleg right with a tall tree protecting the cut, but they had temporary tees up that were just a little more right and back which gave me a lane. Hit a great ball to the left side...but 3 putted from 50 feet.

Had 35 putts (19 on the front), which is pretty bad, but managed to make a couple on the back including a 30 footer for birdie. Was very happy with tee and iron play, but left a bunch out there from my short game.

Tomorrow morning is gonna be hot, and the course is gonna be smoked...cant wait!

I've only been using a glove with my driver, and the one I have is about 2 months old, so I bought a new one today. It felt so goddamn good and I think it will help me about 20 yards a shot when I want to step on one. It did take a little bit of getting used to, though. Hit a draw out of bounds on 3 when I've been hitting fades all year. Other than that it was probably the best I've played in my life. Putting was so on I didn't think I could miss and my irons were locked in. High fades ftw.
