After struggling a bunch lately, I shot a really solid 80 today.
Duffed my first 3 shots of the day and had a slow start on the first 4 holes, then shot +1 for the rest of the round.

Missed a few short birdies too, should have been much better.

79!

2 tap in birdies and a double bogey on my nemesis hole. Holed about a 15 footer from the fringe on 18th to finally break 80.

semi-short private club I'd never played before. 75. Lost two balls to OB by a combined foot and a half. One was my 2nd shot on a par 5. I hit my provisional to 10 feet and made the putt for par :-/

shot 48-46 = 94

Was hoping to get in the 80s, my drive is getting a little more consistent.. so thats nice. I also hit a nice 120 wedge and stuck it a foot from the hole for an easy birdie

Thanks guys!

I got tired on the back nine. Bogeyed par 5 14th that I usually par or birdie when I get a good tee shot. Tee shot barely got off the ground but rolled out about 200 yards. Then I topped second shot for about 100 yards. Good save for bogey tho.

15th is nemesis hole. Over 400 yards into the wind. Pulled my second shot behind some trees with bunker protecting the green. Played a low punched shot into the bunker hoping it would jump over but no luck. Out of the bunker and two putted for a double.

16th - hit good drive on a little dogleg left hole. Until I got up there and saw that it got in the fairway bunker somehow. It was close to the lip. Got greedy and hit the lip. Got out on second try and pitched it close to the pin for tap in bogey.

17th - 160 yd par 3 - tee shot on the green and two putted for par

18th - pull drive under a tree and had to punch for about 100 yds. Had about 160yd left to try and get GIR on this par 5. Mi**** and left it short front right. Pitched it on and it rolled pass the flag to the fringe. Made the putt.

I screamed a big Yes! 79 baby!

And it only took about 3 hours walking! Another record for me! Sneaked out at work around 4:15PM. Teed off right before 5PM and finished around 8PM.

DrNo...in my congrats post i forgot to tell you how awesome it was that you made a putt from the fringe to break 80. that must have felt like holing out from 80 yards!

when i still hadn't broken 40 i remember having a 15 foot putt and needing to 2 putt for a 39. of course i 3 putted, sigh.

Played Tuesday and Thursday.

Brag: really good (by my standards) ball-striking round on Tuesday.

Beat: short game and putting were awful on Tuesday.

Brag: best drive of my life on my 18th hole Thursday--probably the only really solid drive I've ever had with my driver. 343 yard par-4 and I knew I needed a really good drive to have any chance of reaching the green; there's a water hazard from about 50-30 yards out. I hit my driver (for the first time all day) and it's pretty much perfect. Starts off a little bit right but draws back a smidge and is easily inside the fairway near the 100 yard marker. A 240-yard drive may not be much for most golfers, but it pretty much salvaged an otherwise fairly lousy round. So I take a sand wedge thinking I've got a great shot for a GIR and instead I chunk it weakly to the right, not even reaching the hazard. It stops right up against a concrete cart path; I take a drop and then hit a lob wedge onto the green, giving me about a 20-footer for par. Two-putt bogey.

Beat: Pretty horrible day otherwise. Some okay shots, but a lot of ugly slices with my irons.

Variance: surprisingly pleasant afternoon weather both days.

Hit up the pitch n' putt today! Shot one over and four over on the back (2 balls) which is good by my standards. Wish this one was a couple inches to the right.

Played at my Golf Club today and went 35-36 with two birds and two bogs. Felt like I left about 2-3 shots out on the course and am pretty frustrated at some missed opportunities (including two very tough bunker shots that I hit both to about 6 ft and whiffed on both).

Been working hard on some adjustments in my game and it is nice to have them starting to show signs of hope.

38-41-79. 1 birdie, 2 doubles. 8/13 fairways, 12/18 greens, 36 putts.

Pretty solid day. Putting a little shaky, need to find it again.

played tuscany @ henderson today for first time.

although course was about to be overseeded, I absolutly loved it.

shot 43-38 (in reverse order, they had the 9's swapped.)

Randoms:

* It was so windy I hit a drive 370 yards (played a par 5 driver sandwedge for the first time ever) and hit a 9 iron into a 180 yard green pin high (to give you an idea, I carry the driver 250 on a good day and 9iron 145-150.
* I finished double / bogey / birdie...On 7 (again played back first) I need to finish par out to break 80...proceeded to shank approach to take care of that

420 yard par 4. Hooked drive into trees. Took medicine, punched out to about 135. Pin way back (at least +10), into the wind. Went flag hunting with the 150 club, pured it. Just over the back of the green about 3 yards. Terrible lie though, in mud sitting down. Cautious chip to 8 feet, 2 putts.

390 yard par 4, dogleg right which I hate. I treat it like a par 5. Popped up 3 hybrid in fairway 230 out. Cut 1 iron into the wind to about 20 yards. Pin pasted way on the front. Give chip a little extra to make sure it gets there, it rolls out to about 15 feet past. I misread break on putt, leaving a four foot slider and miss. Only 3 putt of the day.

Weak short game.

That's not bad. I was expecting to see some course management problems, but it seems like those doubles weren't really all that bad. Sometimes you make that 8 footer. As for treating a par 4 like a 5...that might be really good if you genuinely believe that is the numbers play for you to make the lowest score possible.

Yeah, I don't feel like course management is a major problem for me, at least at my home course.

I do have a couple leaks - for example there are a couple short par 5s where I dump a lot of 2nd shots into bunkers bringing the large number into play (my sand game is lolbad). But for the most part I don't have a problem punching out when I miss, playing conservative and trying to get up and down for pars.

Playing that 2nd par 4 as a par 5 is definitely the way to go for me. To hit a driver off the tee you have to either play a fade or hit it absolutely straight on a string. My ability to hit a fade with the driver comes and goes and it's never dependable, so it's an iron off the tee. If I hit it decently or the tees are up I can go for the green with a mid to long iron and have a reasonable chance at a conventional par. Otherwise, I'll come up a little short and try and get up and down. It just happens that I fail at the up and down part often because my short game isn't that good.

Totally pissed. Had to par #9 to play my last 18 holes bogey free and -3.

Hit a drive into the first cut on the left and was a bit worried that the ball was perched up a little too much. Had 95 yards to an elevated green (long is jail) and I decided to hit a full LW (goes about 95 yds stock). Thought to myself to lift up a little just to avoid going under the ball and end up blading it over.

Follow it up with a tremendous flop shot to 12 feet and leave putt half a roll short . Otherwise it would have been my longest streak of bogey-free golf.

naturally i tripled 8 and bogeyed 9 for a 37. oh what could have been.

Played in the first day of the BCPGA Championship at Whistler Golf Club..I was part of the pro-am as we sponsered one of the holes. The pros in our group where Andrew Chapman and Gord Scett. They finished 76,72 and we won the pro-am at 15 under par thanks to my buddys high handicap and the fact he shot lights out 82 (21 cap). The prize we won was a new Tiliest 909d with a matrix shaft...very very nice! I shot an 84 and prob left 6 good putts on the lip as they where firm and fast. Everyone in a position to sponsor an event like this really should as these young men need the support to keep the purses up this event had a $35K in prize money for the pro's.
