haven't watched recently but NLU has really upped their video quality recently.
seems that when they're at courses you know (like bandon for me) it amplifies the enjoyment.

I was very impressed, a lot of really great city/non-golf/aerial shots too. Probably didn't hurt that I watched on the TV instead the phone, but still. Better than a lot of broadcast stuff.

Will likely binge Carolinas or Scotland (yeah, the familiarity factor is a plus) while waiting for the next episode.

Knowing the courses ups the enjoyment factor 10x. I played every course they played in Oregon, and it was great, but can't really get into their other videos.

I enjoy the Drop Zone podcast more than NLU but it is probably just a personal preference as I like the 2 DZ hosts. They just did an ep on their ten favorite courses they've ever played worldwide, which was a lot of fun.

One of the hosts of the Drop Zone is a guy named Dylan Dethier... I was in a public library in Lenox MA a few weeks back and happened across a book called "18 in America" in the used book sale. It turns out Dethier was the author. I recognized the name so I figured what the heck and bought the book for $2. I was honestly very surprised by how excellent the book is, and I highly recommend it to any golf fan. Turns out Dethier is from the western MA area and went to Williams College (which btw has an absolutely beautiful golf course called Taconic Golf Club which I'd love to play one day - just had lunch on the patio of the clubhouse but the Fall scenery was spectacular).

The gist of the book is that when he was 17, he took a year off before starting college, and decided to travel America by himself in his Subaru, and play golf in every one of the lower 48 states. He plays at rundown public courses, fancy resorts like Bandon Dunes, and meets a bunch of interesting characters along the way. It's very well written and I really enjoyed it.

Tourist Sauce and Strapped are by far NLU's best content. And it is very good content at that. Mainly because they get away from their dumb hot takes and focus on the places they're in and the courses and the locals.

Actually their Film Room segment which only has a couple episodes is pretty good too I thought.

The rest of their stuff ranges from pretty lame, casual fan meme type stuff to meh.

If this was my course I would just name one of the sandbaggers and enjoy the free membership.

Looking to be almost a lock that I'm going to have space for a simulator build in the near future, time to reallly dig into the research and planning and start piecemealing the acquisitions. Some of it is easy, I'm sure I can find a good mat and some carpet without much trouble. The rest, kinda starting from scratch and I'm hoping I can find some good threads/blog posts/whatever about different builds.

Someone on here did a build with all the info. Let me see if I can find it.

Edit can't find it, also can remember the username either. I know he had a San Fran Giants logo for avatar.

You're probably thinking of Thinman. His was a backyard setup, was very cool.

My build is almost together, still working on the flooring. I can post a list of what I bought later.

Would really like to see what you have/end up with. The pandemic has really made me want to construct a sim space of my own.

I just created a simulator thread, so people can find this info in the future.

I have a 10 day trip to Ireland next May. Flying into Shannon and out of Dublin. Any course recommendations? I might book Lahinch today while there are still tee times available.

Have you watched the No Laying Up Ireland travel series on YouTube? They highlight some fun looking courses. I haven’t been but dooks and Carne look awesome and Lahinch seems a no brainer.

No, but now I know what I'll be watching this week. Thanks.

Part of the trip is business, so I'll be limited in range to the courses.

What am I missing with this Chasing Scratch pod? People on SM seem to love it. I’ve started listening a few times and seems like the dumbest thing I’ve ever listened to.

AITA here?

Lahinch is a no-brainer and you should have booked it yesterday.

are you driving or traveling in another way? how much freedom do you have to move around during the 10 days? one thing to realize about driving in Ireland is that you'll average at best around 40-45 mph unless you find yourself on one of the motorways where you'll average around 55-60 mph. the time it takes to drive from place to place there is just different than in the states.

i second the NLU series on Ireland, as well as 'A Course Called Ireland' by Tom Coyne. you can also look here: https://www.golfdigest.ie/the-digest...f-courses-2020

here's Coyne's map of the linksland courses in Ireland. as you might guess they're all along the coast. https://************/ktnuxsd9

this omits courses like Old Head down in Kinsale which isn't a true links course.

The dudes are witty and good with 1990s and 2000s pop culture and they suck so they’re relatable
