rosarito is a super easy drive from san diego, and a pretty easy drive from LA. going back and forth for half the week doesnt seem the least bit unrealistic.

as far as playin 40 hrs in ~3.5 days while going to school (full time?) might be a bit of a stretch, but you know your mental and physical limits better than anybody else

i'd like to go back when it starts getting colder out, but all signs point to mexico being showered with this new legislation by spring time so i'm a bit hesitant.

I went through the same thoughts for my Mexicali move. Two things to ask yourself

1 - are you able to grind 40 hours now and be profitable? If you can't do it at home then you probably can't do it in Mexico.

2 - are you playing at a limit where you can cover your expenses and turn a profit given your new home in Mexico? This most likely means that you DO NOT play micros.

If the answer to either of the above is "no" then you shouldn't do it. Everything else is just logistics like getting a good desk and chair.

If I'm driving from Vegas to Rosarito would I need to have a passport to cross back and forth from the boarder? If not, what would I need?

Also, I assume we'd need some sort of Mexican ID in order to verify our info on Stars/open up a skill account, etc. What's the best way to go about doing that? I was considering going to the Mexican embassy in Nevada and getting a Mexican ID card once I have my apartment finalized. Would that be the way to do it or is it easier to set up after I'm in Rosarito?

Awesome thread btw, you guys have done a great job getting information out.

I did this recently but for Mexicali, not Rosarito. Yes you will need a passport for the border crossing.

Stars will need something like a utility bill that you scan and send in with your ID. I used my Nevada drivers license as the ID and my Mexican telephone bill and was up and running with Stars in just a few hours.

The bank will need the same info from you but this will vary from bank to bank. Or you could just do p2p transfers on Stars for all your banking and not really need a bank account.

They do actually have a Mexican Embassy in Nevada, which was somewhat surprising.

Fixed your post, but nevertheless I'd be interested to hear their reaction to asking for a "Mexican ID".

And 100% you need a passport to drive back into USA from Mexico. Be prepared to wait an hour, and up to 3 hours. Sentri is the only way to go if you will be traveling frequently, but you need a clean background and it takes several months for application to process and you need to have a personal interview at a Sentri office (i.e. San Ysidro, Otay Mesa). Good luck.

I am going to get a house soon, and I'm looking for a roommate. I am tired of living in the condos; with a house we can get a lot more space, save money, etc. I will only be looking for spots in town (somewhere between Rosarito Beach Hotel and Walmart). Probably somewhere in the $600-$900 range should get us a nice place. I'm 29, currently playing cash (used to play MTTs/ SNGs), and I have an 18-month-old mixed lab. HMU if you're looking for a roommate, we should be able to get a really good deal somewhere.

I'm posting this here for the benefit of anyone else that might read this in the future. I just had a frustrating experience and maybe it will save other people the time.

PStars accepts Todito Cash, which is very easy to deposit with. The problem is actually getting the cards. The Todito Cash web site will tell you they are available at a variety of different places, including OXXO. They will even show you a map where you put in your address and list the OXXO that have them. I went to FOUR different OXXO before being told that they no longer carry them. They told me they haven't carried them in at least a year or so. I finally stumbled across a 7-11 that had them and the cards themselves say "Exclusively for Sale at 7-11". So I have no idea who the heck is in charge of the Todito Cash web site but it is not current at all! That was really frustrating to go to all those stores when they weren't available to begin with.

Hey guys !

I was thinking about going to Rosarito or playa del Carmen for 6 months (from january 2016 to july). I currently live in France and play cashgames on eurosites.

Rosarito seems to have a big community of poker players right ?

What would be a monthly budget ( I don't party/spew so much and don't feel the need to live in a type of secured gatted cummunity) ?

Thanks in advance

I finally got a Two Plus Two account and would love to join a Rosarito Skype group.

I was born in Los Angeles, but was raised in San Diego. My family has a house in Rosarito Beach, and during my childhood lived there for a couple years.

Now I'm 27 and I've come back to live in Rosarito, but I work in San Diego as a Licensed vocational nurse.

I love poker and have started playing on Pokerstars and 888poker. I like to play STT and MTTs

Living in Rosarito is awesome but its better if you have friends.

Anyone know why everyone decided to choose Rosarito as their location? I would think Tijuana or Ensenada would be a lot better. I'm currently in Playa Del Carmen and not a huge fan of living here anymore so I'm thinking of moving out west to Baja.

Spoiler:

Obv. Rosarito is perfectly fine, but probably largely a function of people being there already/leg-work being done for living there, + people like Miguel marketing well/making people comfortable after BF when it was a still a big leap for most American grinders to leave home...

Also the brand name of "Rosarito" is less-scary to people than Tijuana, even if it might be the sketchier place of the two (arguable).

ensenada was awesome and much nicer than rosa, its just GTO to know a little spanish if you live there

i personally thought rosarito sucked, but i guess it's better than ensa, maybe, if you never leave your house and want to cross the border to SD every weekend (about 2 hrs less round trip)

hit me up if you want to ask me anything about living south of rosa

The reason why Tijuana and Rosarito are badass is because we are neighbors to San Diego which is "Americas Finest city" tijuana directly is on the border with san diego and logically tijuana is hugely populated city. Rosarito on the other hand is much smaller beach town that is very laid back and peaceful. Rosarito is about 25 mins from the border so its still close enough to San diego to be very cool spot to chill

This is one of the main reasons I'm in Mexicali. Basically all the western Mexico towns have eye opening crime rates. But Mexicali, by and large, is pretty peaceful. If you believe their crime statistics, they are actually more peaceful than most U.S. cities.

you're a really bad politics poster and likely racist, not surprised at all to see you painting an inaccurately negative picture of mexico itt, and it should be pointed out for all the poker players who come into this thread seeking real information/perspective.

as of august 2014, the # of murders in rosarito for the year was a whopping 42, overwhelmingly related to the drug trade, while overall violent crime rates had allegedly declined.

the murder rate per capita for american tourists in all of mexico is .39 per 100,000 visitors, vastly lower than in every single american city with a population of over 100,000, and rosarito is known to have lower than average crime rates compared to the rest of mexico so the murder rate there is not even close to .39/100k. mexico gets like 2 million visitors per month and san ysidro going into baja is the most heavily trafficked border crossing

so yea, gtfo here with your fearmongering bull****

ive asked myself before why on earth anyone would ever live in mexicali...

but hey whatever floats your boat.

rosarito does not have eye opening crime, you need to check your facts because its just not true.

Closest foreign city to Las Vegas within driving distance. Also, easier border crossings. If I wait more than 10 mins at the border, that's "crowded" :-)

Plus it's pretty modern but still cheap. People expect Mexicali to be this dusty desert town but it's actually pretty cool. I enjoy my time there and still take care of business in Vegas.

I did not know that, and it actually makes perfect sense.

42 murders in 8 months in a town of 65278[1] gives a yearly murder rate of
96.5[2] per 100000. which is over twice as high as the city with the highest US murder rate in 2014 Detroit.[3]

but some guy whose livelihood is based on having Americans move to Mexico
says that its safe.

I'm not saying that the Rosarito is as dangerous as living in Baltimore or on the south side of Chicago but I don't think 'Safe' is an apt description of a town whose murder rate is twice that of Detroit.
