How often does your internet connection cut out in Malta? Do you have a backup connection and is it any hindrance there for a poker pro playing a full week?

Had it happen 3 times the last 6 months, all 3 around 1am on a weekday. Other than that it's usually stable and pretty fast, but rather expensive (think 100ish per month for the premium). Don't have a backup and don't know anyone who has.

It's fishy but the rake is extremely high, making it pretty hard to profit at the low stakes.

I PM'ed multiple guys from here, but I am still going to post.

I play mid-high LHE and am willing to learn other games, tons of references, I would be willing to do a baller place

also the US signed a tax treaty where we pay 15% to Malta, but none to the US gov't besides the 15% self employment tax, the wording is ambiguous. Also, you need to be a bonafide citizen, and I believe the law is currently suspended until July. Someone with more knowledge can correct me on this.

Anyhow, my brother has a b-party May 15th, and gets married July15th so I am likely going to go to Montreal for 3 months and see how it goes. Then, most likely Malta for a little if the future of the US is still very unclear (likely), so I'll follow this thread and would like to hear from some of you. I enjoy the night life a lot btw. Anyone who is interested in this time frame also let me know.

Best of luck to everyone doing this, god speed.

Right now I think moving to Malta is my #1 option. I would like to get a place with a roommate or two. Send me a PM if you might be interested.

There was a high roller cash game during the last Italian Poker Tour stop in Malta at Portomaso, it was just one day out of the week-long event, blinds were 25/50 for sure, and you had to buy-in for at least 10k iirc.

If more people came down to Malta then you can expect to see more bigger games running.

Think even if people arent sure getting a discussion going is a positive thing.

You're going to pay exactly the same tax as if you were in the US. You will pay 15% tax to Malta, which you will use as a tax credit on your US taxes because of the tax treaty we have with Malta (and most other countries) to keep you from double taxation. So there is no difference for you, except Malta is happy to have you there giving them money, hence the Malta rep in the other thread offering to help people acquire permanent residence.

I'll add I'm a mid-stakes 6max cash game player and would consider moving to Malta if it was with other cash game players, otherwise I will probably end up in Canada. PM me if interested.

what happened to that article that said perma residency was suspended?
and the new cost of living there tripled from 4k euros to 12k euros????

edit:
other questions:

1) good areas to move - i know it's a small island.. but are there areas you wouldn't like to live in?
2) steps to residency - as if you got off a plane with a laptop? i downloaded that pdf up there^
what do i have to do? who do i have to talk to?

it would be nice to hear what people who have done this have to say personally...

i'll keep diggin', but i have to admit i was a bit deflated after i read that article...

thanks
